Where our Devon Honey and Beeswax comes from, and how its produced

- High above the Teign Valley, overlooking the Powderham estate with views reaching to the River Exe, Simon meets Neil Graham.
Neil is a retired Psychiatric Nurse with over 30 years of service within the NHS.
Early on his nursing career he started beekeeping. Self taught with just one beehive he quickly discovered it to be a natural antidote to a very challenging profession. Over the years he has slowly increased the amount of hives in his care and now very deservedly retired from nursing, he is a full time honey and beeswax producer. His knowledge and passion is clear to be seen.
Neil was recommended to us by the extremely knowledgeable, head beekeeper, Clare Densley at Buckfast Abbey. Clare told us how Neil cares for the bees using the same principles of beekeeping as the Abbey does, which all originates from the most famous monastic beekeeper of all: Brother Adam.
Neil has very kindly agreed to supply us with natural raw honey which we can sell as part of our Gilboy’s product range. He has several apiaries dotted around the Teign Valley, nearby to our Staverton workshop, and today he has agreed to show and explain to Simon how the honey is made and collected.

A wave back to Ian at 29 mins. Don't be to alarmed at the stings.... They say they are good for Arthritis and Dementia. Very interesting episode Simone. and thanks also to Neil. I'm a 'Beek' in Western Australia. So harvest my own wax, to make polish for my furniture, and Red Gum honey ( Jarrah), which is arguably better than Manuka from NZ. We are not allowed to bring honey or wax from interstate, let alone overseas. When I bought a sample package from you a couple of years ago, I had trouble with Border force and Bio security. Thankfully they let it through.

It's always interesting to hear about other peoples interests and experiences.
The bees in the extraction room were very docile. I think they were drunk on honey. 😁
I think all is good with Customs these days. we do send quite a lot of polish packages to Australia.
We do have some of our polish stocked on the shelves of Amazon Australia for a speedier delivery.

Hi Kate. Yes we still take all the beeswax from Buckfast Abbey. We now top it up with wax from Neil. ✅
