    Making that video is very exhausting i know. however, it's one of the greatest videos you ever made. I would recommend that you accompany a touristic guide, next time you visit similar places, to interpret the hieroglyphic scripts around. as these scripts has a lot of details about the place and the person. I think that will also increase the value of the video and make it more demanded. but really, good job.

      @@jimj6271 Oh you can wear anything you want. Men dress pretty casually here in my opinion, so just wear what is comfortable for you. If there are any "rules" that you should follow, it's just that most men aren't wearing shorts and aren't wearing tank tops, the Egyptian men are usually wearing pants and a t-shirt (something that covers their shoulders). But you can also wear whatever you want with little judgement, as you are a foreigner. I have seen plenty of foreign guys wearing shorts and tank tops or cut-off t-shirts. But if you want to dress like Egyptian guys, then I would stick to pants and shirt that covers your shoulders. That's it, pretty simple for men! 😁I also did make a video about what to wear in Egypt, though I don't talk a lot about what men should wear, I pretty much just said in this message what I say in the video. ua-cam.com/video/hIyojPXrp-Q/v-deo.html

    We are visiting Cairo in couple of weeks so been watching your videos, which are extremely useful. We are doing the Pyramids and Saqqara with a tour so hopefully we are covered for that.
    However, I have a question 🤔 - we are planning to spend a day visiting some of the Mosques, Al Azhar University and the cave Church. We will do this on our own by Uber. Would you able to advice on hiring a uber driver for the day?

    • @Gventures
      @Gventures  2 роки тому +3

      I don't have a recommendation for an Uber driver, unfortunately. However, I think you could order an Uber to just one location, and once that driver picks you up you could ask him if he will drive you around for the day and take you to these various locations and wait for you at each place. I think that is a good deal for most Uber drivers, as then Uber won't take a commission from each ride. You should pay around $30 USD for the day, and pay at the end (or at least, not all at once). Leave a tip as well. The only issue you might encounter is: an Egyptian driver who is fluent enough in English to speak with to communicate what you want. The driver I took out to Saqqara spoke Arabic and very little English, so my bf arranged and negotiated the deal. I could have done it, but it may have taken some time to find a driver had I done it on my own. Also be aware Cave Church is in a slum known as Garbage City, and some Uber drivers may not love having to drive through those narrow, bumpy roads to get you there. I actually usually have them drive me to the edge of the neighborhood and then start walking, which takes me around a half hour. But cars can and do drive through there, so it is possible.

    If you had to choose for a first time visitor between Giza pyramids and Saqqara pyramids, which one (and you only have one choice in this scenario), would you recommend?

    • @Gventures
      @Gventures  2 роки тому +2

      Giza Pyramids. Because it cheaper, faster and easier to get to. Going to Saqqara takes some planning and at least a few hours out of your day. Also the Giza pyramids are more impressive at first sight; they are massive and all right next to each other. The pyramids at Saqqara are in various states of ruin and spread far out from one another, so they appear to be single pyramids on their own. So if I had to choose, I would say the Giza Pyramids

      Awesome, welcome to the channel, thanks man! Yes, I took an Uber to Saqqara. The way I arranged that was, I had taken an Uber the previous day, and asked the driver if he would be willing to take me to Saqqara and Darshur. Your Uber driver will need to know a decent level of English to fully understand what you are asking (unless you speak Arabic), because you will need for him to understand that he is going to drive you out there, wait for you while you explore an area, then take you to the next area, wait again, etc. until you both head back to Cairo. We came to an agreement that he would pick me up at around 7 or 8am (can't remember) and would take me back at around 3pm. I could have stayed later but it would have costed more money, and the sites closes around 4 or 5 anyway. At the time, we agreed upon a sum totaling $30 USD, and I of course tipped him at the end when he was dropping me off in Cairo.
      Yes I was in Turkey summer of last year, such a beautiful country! I actually made a video about Derinkuyu ua-cam.com/video/sV4fwWBP0OA/v-deo.html

    Hi been watching your videos for the past few days now and just wanted a bit of advice if you don't mind please? I've been talking to this guy who lives in Cairo, we met via Facebook and been talking for the past 2 years and he's invited me over to stay but just wanted to know how safe it is as a female tourist as I've never been to Egypt before and how easy it to book into a hostel ect? If you could get back to me with a reply as I hear a lot of bad stories with regards to women being harassed, and obviously the laws are different out there, but would love to go visit, and watching your videos it looks great and you look relaxed but obviously you've lived there for a while now but any bit of advice you can give me would be much appreciated. Thanks 🙂

    • @Gventures
      @Gventures  2 роки тому +1

      Hmm. In regards to your internet friend, I am always weary of people I have never met inviting me to their country to stay with them, that could end badly. And the laws are different here, (unless they are both foreigner aka non Egyptian) it is illegal for a man and a woman to stay together in the same room unless they are married and have a marriage certificate to prove it. I would be cautious meeting and staying with any man I had never met in real life, he might be a great guy, but he also might not be, so just be careful with that. Also, laws.
      As to the general safety for women visiting or traveling here, I can only answer for myself, I don't feel threatened or unsafe here. But I have had a lot of time and experience traveling the world on my own and have been solo to places like India, so I would say I am a rather savvy and aware traveler. Verbal harassment is also a problem here, although it doesn't faze me much (I've lived in NYC-lots of harassment there. Also worked on construction sites with all men-so I have lots of exposure to this kind of behavior and it doesn't scare or bother me). Just follow basic rules of thumb or common sense: don't wander around empty streets late at night, don't get drunk with people you don't 100% trust, all that stuff.
      It's very easy to book a hostel. You get book on hostelworld.com (or use the app), also sites like booking.com or Agoda.com
      Because every woman is different, has different life experiences, different threshholds for what we find tolerable, I always find answering the question of if a place is safe difficult to answer. To me, yes Egypt is safe. I don’t fear for my physical safety, even late at night. But I also don’t hang out in certain neighborhoods late at night, I usually stick to busy areas where there is traffic (cars and people). Guys will say a lot of things here but they rarely get physical, from my experience. And someone saying something doesn’t bother me, as I mentioned before. I have had an instance of a man groping me in a very crowded market, and that wasn’t cool. I would have made a scene and called him out, but I didn’t even know who the perpetrator was at the time, as there were too many people smashed together like sardines, maybe you saw the video. Another time some teenagers tried groping me in an empty area when I got lost trying to find a bus station. But that is pretty much it for physical harassment.
      Where are you from? Have you traveled much before, and to developing countries? Has this guy friend of yours offered you to stay at his place? I would not stay at his place if he has offered you, because you don’t really know him and also, laws. Find a hostel, stay there, meet him in public spaces. It’s a bit sketchy to just go to some guy’s house you don’t know and are meeting for the first time, no matter where in the world you are. I would probably have more advice but since I don’t really know you or your life experiences, I’ll leave it at that for now.

    • @chamillarobshaw6168
      @chamillarobshaw6168 2 роки тому

      @@Gventures yes well this is what I was thinking also as I don't really know the guy that well only from talking via Facebook, WhatsApp and a few video calls ect, but still you never know and because I don't know the country all that well it makes me even more weary as I've heard a lot of bad stories with regards to Egypt if I'm honest. I have traveled but only to places such as Spain, Greece ect so this will be my first time expanding my horizons. I did end up staying with an Albanian family when I went to Greece but that was only because I had already met them out there beforehand and got invited to go back. And don't mean to stereotype all Egyptians as I know there are good and bad wherever you go, but I do hear a lot with regards to people being conned, scammed or just wanting a visa and so on so I am very aware.
      And yes he has invited me to stay at his place but that's the reason I wanted some advice re hostels as I just wouldn't feel comfortable staying somewhere with someone that I've never even really met before as anything could happen, but after doing a lot of research and watching videos such as yours I really would like to just go for the experience and see what it's really like.
      I've screenshot the links you gave me anyway so I will look up some accommodation beforehand, and thank you so much for your reply and really enjoy watching your videos they are very knowledgeable and give lots of insight on what it's really like.

      And I've just watched a video of some guy who got arrested and detained for months just for waving the rainbow flag, and last thing I want to do is travel to another country that I don't really have that much knowledge of and end up in a jail cell haha

      @@chamillarobshaw6168 Thanks Chamilla! Well it sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders, have done your research and are aware of some of the scams. And yeah I agree I also think it best to stay at a hostel. Other than that, you're going to have a great time here! I know Egypt gets a bad rep but honestly I think it's just from women that aren't accustomed to being hit on/verbally harassed call it what you want. As that is pretty regular in my world, I don't have an issue. You do have to be careful of scams on the streets like people will try and overcharge you for many things because you're a foreigner, but this happens all over the world too, it certainly is prevalent in India. I think you're going to love it here, and in my videos it's natural and raw footage so if that has appealed to you, then you'll be fine 😄

    • @Gventures
      @Gventures  2 роки тому

      @@chamillarobshaw6168 Right. I wouldn't stay at some guy's house without more information. I have used couchsurfing quite a bit where I am staying at stranger's homes, but then they had reviews and photos and it's just a lot more reliable and trustworthy. And I also was invited to stay at one person's house in Singapore that did not have a photo or reviews or anything reliable and that ended up very badly for me. I would be very, very careful with who's place you are staying at. Also, sorry to say, but Egyptian men are thirsty. Real thirsty. And yeah, the laws are the laws, and it is illegal for any Egyptian to stay in the same room with the opposite sex without proof of marriage. And neighbor's are nosy. There is a lot of risk you put into one bag, I think it's better to just stay at a hostel for sure. And yes people have been arrested over things like that. It's safer, easier and wiser to just stay at a hostel and hang out with him during the day (or at night, as long as it's not a completely desolate and empty area) and go back to your hostel at night. If he doesn't have any bad intentions, he should be completely fine with that.

      I've just had to have all mine, cost me around £350 for around 9/10 different injections. Typhoid, hepatitis A/B

    Not a fan of touristic tombs. They have steps and lights and a bunch of people in small spaces.

      Lol yes, unfortunately everyone wants to see the ancient tombs so it's a part of seeing famous ancient sites anywhere in the world, typically. Much emptier than the Pyramids of Giza though 😅I'm not a fan of crowds either when visiting sights like this, as you can probably tell from the video (also hate screaming children). Ah well, it is what it is

      Haha. I feel like Meidum Pyramid really had me feeling like Lara Croft! Probably one of if not my favorite experience in Egypt was crawling around mastaba 17 after Meidum Pyramid ua-cam.com/video/l3DxhfW_ifg/v-deo.html
