Nice final shot Alyn. I wonder how many copies of your book you've sold so far... You always prove that patience is the biggest factor for an astrophotographer. I have given a few out as gifts, plus mine of course.

Thanks for this, I think. Just went out to shoot Jupiter and the moons, and I expect my fingers to thaw out in another hour or so! I received the brilliant 2024 calendar with no issues getting in USA. Nice to see you have an adult haircut at last. Clearly your partner's positive influence.

Reminds me of trying to shoot Comet ZTF recently. It was close to the sun, but not visible here until almost sunrise, so get up at 5 a.m. set up, look for it, if there are low clouds you wait longer and the time window narrows, because it isn’t long before the sky brightens for sunrise, try again early the next morning…all I managed to get was a fuzzy little green dot.

I tried to capture the nearly full moon and Jupiter not above a tower but a group of pine trees next to a lake with a skim of ice on it. The issue I had was the moon, I could either get the moon or Jupiter nice and sharp but not both in the same frame. I finally gave up and combined two images. Next time I will look for a tall manmade structure (not many in my neck of the woods) and hope the moon is not in the shot as well.

I used MPB to sell a camera and two lenses in the states. I got a good deal, but I had to ship the camera and lenses to them. I had to box it up and they supplied the shipping label. The first thing they want is a picture of what you're selling then they decide if they want it or not. In my case they wanted the camera and two lenses. If I ever want to buy anything I'll go through them.
I liked the buoy bouncing around in your time lapse!

I captured the best shot of Jupiter, for me,on 5-12-23 as the first focus test shot for the night.I was setting up to chase the Orion Nebula using a go to tracker and to check alignment I set goto for Jupiter, alignment was spot on so I took a 1/10 second shot @ f5.6,3200iso and captured it with 6 moons.Callisto,Ganymede,Io,Amalthea,Europa and Himalia as best I can work out with Stellarium.
Shooting with Sony a7 IV with Sony 70-400 telephoto G lens (A mount with adapter).
That may not sound exciting to most folks but it is for me.Where I am 1/4 of the sky is lost to light pollution and 3/4 of the rest is behind tall trees so I'm always stoked to get a good result.

I have a Sigma 300-800mm it's good with a crop sensor Cam for reach but my Skywatcher Skymax 180 Pro telescope is way better for getting details. My mum and sisters family lives in Istanbul weather is pretty awful floods and wind.

You show the main thing and that is being out there where things are happening while others sleep. Thanks for the info about also Jupiter's moons can be seen also, no idea of and should have gone for it, for have had super clear skies for days. The A7SM3 + FE 200-600mm with 2X teleconverter would be nice also. The same very cold but super clear sky when doing Milky Way in Feb thru Apr even in Florida USA.

Wow, this is cool getting the moons of Jupiter. Does anyone know of an app or way to get the nights that do not have the moon for a location? I currently do it manually noting the dates going through the moon tables month by month on the date & time website. I've done 2024, and will be double checking after new years. Just wanting an easier way.

I kept my canon version of the Sigma 150- 600 and just bought the Sony adapter. Don't you miss the extra zoom you get because of the crop factor? I still have my canon 90D so it winds up being effectively 960 zoom. And my Sony adapter that is made by Sigma works perfectly.

I am thinking of switching to the Sony a7 IV but would love to know if it is better or worse in low light situations than the a7 III. Depending on this I may go with the a7 III instead.
Would love to see a video about this from you.
Love your videos and just recently got your book. Great job you did there.

A real job is where someone creates something and then gets paid for it, like running a UA-cam channel. Why the insults Boggy?
I think it's a good thing that Alyn spent his last years doing what he loved. Imagine wasting your life stuck in a boring job, or is that the reason why you are so angry? You know, jealousy
