The MV was filmed 7 months ago at Zhejiang Hengdian World Studios in China, the world’s largest outdoor film studio. More than a hundred background actors were involved in this MV. He personally spent $1.4M for the overall production. The company that made the effects for the Lit MV is Dexter Studios. This is the first time that they have produced a music video as they usually make movies, such as the Oscar-winning "Parasite." The word 莲 "lian" (which sounds like lit in chinese) means LOTUS. The slang the haters used to say to him is 白莲花 (bai lian hua) which means someone who is pure in appearance, but opposite inside. But lotus is a holy and pure image in Chinese history which is not a small thing like those haters said. The bad metaphor happens these years from some ignorant and stupid people. He used the 2 different sides of the word lotus. The overall MV is based off of Lay’s favorite Chinese historical figure fighting oppression. The MV is the portrayal of a Chinese General’s entrapment by the Han soldiers while trying to rescue his wife. The general named Xiang Yu, who fought in the battle of Gaixia. The voice in the first 1min of the MV is actually the voice of a Peking opera artist singing “The Song of Gaixia” which the General composed for his wife Lady Yu (potrayed in Lay’s song, Jade) who later took her own life Lay released his semi-autobiographical book “Independent 24” or "Standing firm at 24." His first part is already the best selling Chinese online album ever! Thanks for your honest review once again pd, we appreciate it and I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Watching this MV was super refreshing. I'm currently majoring in Film Studies and I feel like there haven't been as many cinematic/long narrative MVs from kpop or mando-pop in a while. It looks as though for certain shots, especially the ones outside the palace, they use a particular camera lens that emphasizes the depth of view to really immerse the viewer and show just the grandness of scale. The shots inside the palace and in the dancing scenes were probably then using a standard lens they would use for music videos, making the shot look more flat and like a picture (neither of these are better or worse than the other, it's just how cameras work). I'm not exactly a camera person, but I'm just regurgitating what I remember from my cinematography class LMAO but I really love this video and have watched it like 10 times. I could go on and on about the lighting and color, it's just such a well done video.
The scene in the intro when he was surrounded by soldiers was somehow a presentation of a Lotus ( Lay ) being in mud ( soldiers). It was great and extraordinary symbolic!
This was a gorgeous video and the cast/on-location elements really bring this to life. I actually like the song (as part of the mv experience) but I can totally understand how it may not be everyone’s cup of tea.
the sets are all real, there are tons of movie/drama filming locations all across China that replicate imperial palaces from different dynasties throughout history
I actually recognize some of these sets from historical Chinese dramas, especially that long outdoor hallway. That one is used in a LOT of cdramas. I wonder if anyone else recognized some places?
@@bilqeesmohammed3595 Hmmm, well it really depends on what kind of historical you're looking for. Are you looking for fantasy-based wuxia dramas with gods and goddesses or cultivation sects, etc, or something more martial arts based that doesn't really have that fantasy aspect, or something that just straight could have come out of history (whether it's historically accurate or just a made up timeline)?
the song was made for producer show, but then yixing used for the album, he didn't promote the song much besides 1 live preformance and the mv, he pre released a song called Jade that's more public friendly and yes its charting better i don't think he made lit to chart he chose it as an intro to his fourth album
Actually what I heard is that Lay already had arranged a serties of promotion plan. His original schedule was to attend a concert or festival event in USA and he will promote his album the same time with a tour throughout US. Unfortunately due to the covid-19 pandemic outbreak and closing of borders his team is forced to cancelled everything and totally change the plan. Thus it seems not many promotion. So sad, he had put in tremendous effort on this comeback but unfortunate things just happened.
Yes I agree the mv is gorgeous. The song is not really my type either but it grew on me. I am so proud of Lay, he literally did everything for this mv if pay attention to the credits. This is the title track for his new album.
He really is one of the most well-rounded, hard working, and most importantly focused artist in the industry... (like kinda bleeding both into cpop/kpop/western too).. He has his own vision, he battles his own battles, whatever it that is he's doing+various reasons why he's still connected w SM, I feel like it's all calculated because he has his own big pictures and he'll do what it takes to get where he wants to go.. He's such an inspiring figure, even if you're not a fan, you'll immediately feel his charisma and determination in everything he does 🥺💕
I see what you mean about the song itself but I think it makes a great opening to his album. And great storytelling that connects to the 2nd track Jade. I hear the 2nd part of the album is supposed to me modern. My favorites on this part one of the album are H2O and Soul. His goal is to bring M-pop as he calls it, to the world. And as mentioned, lotus is used as an insult by his detractors. So this was directed at them.
Funny thing, he broke so many records in China when the first part of the album dropped, and I don’t know how many views he has in this mv in the Chinese sites, but are wayyy more
Actually, all the soldiers are real. I think one of Lay's backup dancer mentioned that Lay used about 300-400 extras for this mv and all the soldiers are real person, not cgi. Lay also posted a 'behind the scene' and you can see everyone there
I would totally like to see Lay in historical Chinese drama. He has the features and would fit to play a warrior character. He probably look good with long hair too.
So this is the first part of his 4th album and it is is highly conceptual. I think that's why it doesn't really aim to be "the hit of the summer" because trully it's not catchy nor very melodical, which I don't think is very common in Cpop, let alone in kpop! Lit reminded me of "the assambly call" in namanana as I think it really is a way to introduce the story. Now, to get the full impact you have to listen to all of it and you will also appreciate it much more if you understand the narrative behind it. I agree 100%, this is not a commercial song, or album for that matter, and I love that he takes that risk with his music. The video is stunning, all of it and to be honest I don't think I have ever seen a better dragon not even in movies! Also I never leave comments on videos but truly everyone here loving yixing just made me want to add my two cents.
I like the music, but I was much more impressed with all about this music video when I first watched, it was like... "Am I watching a film?" It's soooooo good!
Oooo been so excited for your reaction!!!! I was shocked when I first saw it it really is like a movie it's just that cool and amazing. The quality is insane and just all the work, money, and time that went into it is insane as well. It's super amazing Lay killed it again and squashed the haters again 😌
Every time I watch this video and listen to the song I feel like I go into a trance, honestly. I don't know what it is about it, but it's like I'm tripping haha
When I watched that mv for the first time I was all DAAAAAAMN and couldn't stop going "Oh my God! This is gorgeous!" Then the CGI dragon appeared and I shut up. Mouth agape. I have NEVER seen a CGI dragon be that gorgeous before. Ever. The amount of rendering they would have had to do for that dragon is absolutely freaking ridiculous. The fact that it was a black sky and a black dragon popped on the screen... Could not believe it. Absolutely amazing.

@@ReaKinata well.. I'm looking for more wuxia fantasy actually😅
the song was made for producer show, but then yixing used for the album, he didn't promote the song much besides 1 live preformance and the mv, he pre released a song called Jade that's more public friendly and yes its charting better i don't think he made lit to chart he chose it as an intro to his fourth album
So sad, he had put in tremendous effort on this comeback but unfortunate things just happened.
you HAVE to listen to this album it's so magical and has so much music variety
Gosh I love it so much when ppl appreciate Lay and his creativity, this MV set standard so high tbh
Proud of Yixing
You don’t know how long I’ve been waiting for this
Yes I agree the mv is gorgeous. The song is not really my type either but it grew on me. I am so proud of Lay, he literally did everything for this mv if pay attention to the credits. This is the title track for his new album.
This MV is a MOVIE!
I need Yixing on a movie now!
Yessss this is what I am waiting for. Finally PD is reacting to this! When the MV was out I immediately think that PD should react to this
Gosh, this guy's voice is incredible.
He's such an inspiring figure, even if you're not a fan, you'll immediately feel his charisma and determination in everything he does 🥺💕
What exactly is his vision? I mean, what's the big picture he is working towards to?
@@dianalazaru armyblink, go and do more research on him u will know, i know u r not exo-l
So this was directed at them.
if he released such an amazing music video I’m afraid to imagine what will happen next time
Funny thing, he broke so many records in China when the first part of the album dropped, and I don’t know how many views he has in this mv in the Chinese sites, but are wayyy more
Actually, all the soldiers are real. I think one of Lay's backup dancer mentioned that Lay used about 300-400 extras for this mv and all the soldiers are real person, not cgi. Lay also posted a 'behind the scene' and you can see everyone there
Lay mentioned on CZR-2 as well
this is so well made and the fact that he spent his own money to make this music video is very impressive
He was speechless for almost five minutes. I am glad he liked it. Thank you for reacting to Lay's Lit.
I would totally like to see Lay in historical Chinese drama. He has the features and would fit to play a warrior character. He probably look good with long hair too.
Omg I’ve been waiting for ageeees 😩🤍 thanks uuu
You do not know how fast I've clicked this video 🥺 Thank u for hearing me out and finally reacted to Lay! 😊

THE MOMENT I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR

Lay is very talented, thx for your reaction and love listening to your voice
OMG DO YOU KNOW HOW LONG IVE BEEN WANTING THIS REACTION?????? THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH
M2
The only react I was waiting for! Thank you always for the comments PD, I highly appreciate the truthness and honesty you give.
pd was so quiet during the first listen, my roommate saw me asked my why i was watching a guy sitting in silence lol
I feel like you'd enjoy the behind the scenes for this video. It was released a bit ago and it was really cool to see how some of it was done!
I STOPPED EATING MY BEN & JERRYS COOKIE DOUGH ICE CREAM FOR THIS REACTION
Yes Ben and jerrys
OMG I’M BEYOND OBSESSED WITH THIS. Please cast Lay for Zuko in the Avatar live action remake
This MV is a masterpiece 💯💯💯
This mv is better than other films, from beginning to end I get goosebumps especially when the dragon comes out
*"WHERE DID THE TIME GO?!!"*
SAME
where did the time go? HAH SAME!
I’ve been waiting so long for this 😭👏🏻

“Oh my fxcking god”. Yes. This WAS ART. Lay and the team did an amazing job. I bump thus song daily in my car on full blast
Lit is the best MV I've ever seen. IS ANOTHER LEVEL FOR SURE.
Every time I watch this video and listen to the song I feel like I go into a trance, honestly. I don't know what it is about it, but it's like I'm tripping haha
kind of random but i love your room; the aesthetic, the decor, the color......nice.
Thanks!
lol the production quality in this is a million times better than most Chinese dramas
FINALLY SOMEONE REVIEW HIS AMAZING MV. ..❤️❤️❤️❤️
i bet marvel is shaking rn
Finally!! I've been waiting for this and yes wow to all that!
FINALLYYY I'M SO EXCITED I HOPE YOU LIKED IT PDNIMMM!!!
Oh my god yesss PD i've been waiting
Yes converse! Lay is the ambassador of converse in China!
This is my favourite mv of all time... I like dragons and pretty things ok
Before I started to watch your reaction, I knew you will watch this again
When I watched that mv for the first time I was all DAAAAAAMN and couldn't stop going "Oh my God! This is gorgeous!" Then the CGI dragon appeared and I shut up. Mouth agape. I have NEVER seen a CGI dragon be that gorgeous before. Ever. The amount of rendering they would have had to do for that dragon is absolutely freaking ridiculous. The fact that it was a black sky and a black dragon popped on the screen... Could not believe it. Absolutely amazing.
