Wow, what a great video and nice to see how Hobart, developed over the years. Our family moved to Hobart in 1955. What comes to mind when I look back on those days, was feeling like an orphan at a family picnic. In those days, if your relatives weren't from Hobart, you were an outsider. If it wasn't for the brutal winters, humid summers, and being within a few miles of one of the nations most crime ridden areas, Hobart looks like an ideal town to live in. On the bright side, I still have family and friends back there who I miss and think of often. Great video. :-)
This is a wonderful video of Hobart. I grew up downtown, 225 Center street. The lake and surrounding areas were my "backyard ". Great fun. So glad they were able to greatly improve the lake area. It definitely is Hobart's crown jewel. What a great town to grow up in. But....all videos neglect the most noteworthy item of the 40's and 50's. Hobart High School band....both concert and marching. Never less than 1st place in any contest.
Many moons ago when I was in 6th grade at George Earl Elementary School, they had a contest to give Hobart a town slogan. My entry was 2 hands shaking and my slogan was, "Hobart, The Friendly City." I remember drawing it in my room, and making my sister shake my hand so I could have a "model" to draw from, lolol. Oh man! Well, obviously it won, and I know I got some kind of ribbon and certificate and that was about it. I don't have the drawing anymore, unfortunately or the ribbon or certificate. They've been lost in time. But, I love that they kept the slogan for decades and I'm thinking that George Earl is now closed and may even be torn down? I've not been back to the old 'hood in too long but once a Hobartian, Hobarttonian, lol Hobartarian, or just a plain, ol' Brickie…..always a Brickie….etc....Peace.
I am from Chicago and moved to Hobart, Indiana. I can say Hobart is a Great and Beautiful to live and raise a family. To me, it seems like a close connection with the neighborhood. Police Department and Fire department good and fast workers. Keep our Hobart City Safe. Thanks for the great video's. 😀💯🌎
An articulate, well-crafted piece of video storytelling that captures the essence of this burg in northwest Indiana. A small city in the cradle of the Big Shoulders that is Chicago. I know. This is my hometowns. Acknowledging the time and effort l that went into this production.
Man, they really fixed up the lakefront, and wow! Look at what they did to the dam! Me and my buds would fish there all the time, and sometimes wade in the water as it rushed past our legs. We fed the ducks popcorn and bread. And.....before the lakefront was "gentrified" it was a place for us to hide out and get drunk on a bottle of some kind of hooch we talked some older person into getting for us, lmao. And then we'd hang at Lake George drinking til Halftime, when we'd wobble our way to the Brickie Bowl and watch the rest of the game and wait for our ride as if we'd been there the whole game. Sorry for the deception Mom......lol...Oh, man...my wild, untamed youth in Hobart....
Hello. Debbie Reynolds! I'd like to take credit for this excellent piece on Hobart. However, it's someone else's work. Where are you these days, Debbie? You can find me on Facebook or DM me to catch up.

I do love it and thank you. Did you really have to pick the fattest people of Hobart for the video? That alone makes me not want to share this video.
One of those buildings has gone :-(
