Hmmm, strange to watch for a European flat water kayaker, A nice river and so probably a great race course and also seemingly not a bad turnout. But guys paddling with wing paddles in a sit-down canoe rather than a proper K4. Paddling technique is underdevelopped, lot of out of sync paddling. I guess the people racing have all started out as adults without proper instruction and training... wonder if there's a trend for a more orthodox approach to paddling developping around there.

Hi Lupo, your observations are mostly correct. We have no youth programs here and all start learning in our 30's when we have money for boats. This specific boat is purpose built for a 400k race in Texas with lots of rocks & portaging. It drafts shallower than a round hull K-1-4. My technique in stern is indeed underdeveloped! Let us know if you are in central U.S. sometime and looking to paddle.

@@jeffbehrns6362 thx for your insights, much appreciated. I'm curious about your paddling scene because I have relatives in St.Louis...been with them several times over the years and always asked myself whats going on canoeing wise. At last there's enough water around to paddle! Good to see ppl getting into it and being dedicated. And certainly plenty of training put into it by yourself and your time...cadence looks strong. Of course going for ICF style racing boats is quite complicated, hard to acquire in the US I guess and tippy boats too that are hard to learn to paddle. But maybe something can happen with youth canoeing and development when the scene is growing (which seems to me). Keep it up anyway and enjoy! I'll follow the Videos ;)
