I've been an Arturia user since 2009 if you can believe it. The V Collection is basically a synth museum and it's an absolute steal for what you are getting. I love how they not only go out of their way to be as faithful to the original as possible but also give it some additional (and tasteful) character. I was really happy with the latest version of their CS-80 having MPE support. This really brings it closer to the OG synth than ever since a key component of that synth is its expressiveness. (This is why Vangelis championed it throughout his life.)

Thanks Guy. I love all this stuff. Back in the 80s, I was in the RN and had a DX7, Juno, 808, sequencer and a portastudio strapped down on a desk in the computer room. Many great evenings were spent while at sea making a terrible din.

Thanks Uncle Guy for another very entertaining review! 😊I got the CS80V which came for free with Cubase 12, and I, usually being religiously into hardware synthesizers, must admit it's fantastic! Arturia, as we all know, also build analogue synths and all their knowledge must have gone into this incredible bundle! Their effect plugins are awesome too, and they have a second to none customer service that respond and solve your problems, if you have any, in a day!

Analog Lab is a very helpful and handy way to use the collection. You can actually go into the nitty gritty of each sound in there if you own the instruments being used by 'Open' on the right hand side of the presets list, or even layer another instrument from the collection. the actual instrument interface will pop up, ready for you to fiddle with the patch.

The other day I found (thanks Komplete Kontrol) this amazing preset on the CS80V where randomly a note plays an octave higher. I put KK's arpeggiator on, added SoundToys Crystalliser with a reverse pitch shifting echo and Native Instruments Raum after that... Sustain pedal. C13 chord. Instant bliss.
And yes, Arturia is fully NKS compatible. Every single thing they make, a true Native Instruments partner.

I was lucky enough in the early 80's to have the opportunity to study and teach in an electronic music studio at Laval University in Quebec. We had Modular Moog, Mini Moog, Arp 2600, Synclavier. I had a Jupiter, eventually a DX7 etc. I own that VCollection and it is almost perfect. Unbelievable we can have all that sonic power mow for that money. But not for the faint of heart. You need patience and dedication to go through this stuff. I also have NI Komplete Ultimate and the two combine marvelously well. Endless sonic possibilities.

They used CS80 from 1978 (played by Duncan Mackay) to early '80s (played by the late Vic Emerson).

Another big fan of the V Collection here. It really is extraordinarily good value; the Fairlight CMI is modelled with all its sample and sound manipulation screens available to use so you can indulge your inner Trevor Horn 'til the cows come home and I can confirm that it'll even load disk images from the real thing. For a synth nerd like me, it's heaven. Arturia's "Pigments" synth is also worth getting; it's one of the most user-friendly software synths I have used, and I've used a few...

I have version 8 and it gets a lot of use from me. However, I think it's worth noting that they do not give you the sound of vintage units; they give you the sound of a pristine and newly built unit. I've heard people say it makes it a bad emulation and that it sound worse than the original units they've used, but I'd say it's the correct way to go. You'll have to add the grit and dirt yourself, meaning you can flavour the sound to taste.

My rack modules consist of a Roland JV-1080, U-220 and Emu Proteus/2 all of which were bought second hand starting with the JV-1080 bought around 2008 or 2009
and earlier this year in 2022 I finally bought a Roland U-220, Emu Proteus 2 after thinking about it for quite a few years, yes in 2022 I went back to using what was industry
standard back in the 90. I do have Arturia V Collection 7 on my old computer and bought it as part of a colaboration deal with Steinberg in 2014 and at the time consisted of
analog synthesizers including the Jupiter, Moog and Yamaha CS-80 and Spark consists of a gamut if classic drum machines including the TR-707, Drumtrax even the Linndrum
along with many analog drum machines. But now I am on a new computer and also unemployed sadly I can't afford to buy V Collection 9 but there are also great freeware alternatives
to some of these synths and even free VSTs and sample packs of some of these drum machines so I will be using freeware alternatives to these synthesizers going forward. Mixcraft
also comes with a few soft synth clones.

I got in on a V7 super sale for like $250 (I was originally wanting Piano V2, I figured another $50 for all the rest was great), and I'm up to 9, now. Arturia treats its customers *very* well when it comes to upgrades, other software or hardware owned, etc. I even have a SFC-5 dedicated Prophet 5 controller to use with Prophet V :D I like the original instruments they've created, too. I'll be curious to see if they continue this trend in V 10 or recreate another oldie.

Off topic but value your opinion, creating a template with SF Symphonic strings but there are so many options of long/short legatos plus everything in between. As a novice what would you recommended to include - so I get the most out of this library. Maybe a future video on what to include and what you can probably leave out. These libraries seem to spoil you for choice and I really don't know what is a good selection. that would offer best encompassing experience.

Been with Arturia for many, many years. Absolutely love their emulations (I am old and hungered after the originals but they cost too much and where would I put them?). Highly recommended. Also, their customer relations is great (possibly they think I'm French??? I'm not). Remember the good old days, Guy? When you wanted to layer two (hardware synths) you'd need a MIDI cable and some prayers. Times are good now. You've transported us back to the early 80s. No bad thing at all. Brian Eno & Pink Floyd seemed to be able to get appealing (and unappealing) noises out of the EMS Synthi. I am scared pf programming so I am grateful for presets. Don't forget that if you buy the V-Collection when you upgrade the price is really good.

I find I’d rather use Pianotech as my piano in most situations, but I don’t find myself considering deleting Piano V or anything. It’s not too big, even. So i guess everybody watched "Hans Zimmer: Hollywood Rebel" documentairy on the BBC the other day (it's great, check it out if you can). There you can see that Hans uses the U-he Zebra plugin. Since you, Guy, are such a fan of Hans, i thought you would be using the Zebra aswell and might have made a video about it. Searching your channel i couldnt find one though, which kind of suprised me.....

It would be great world if sound from VST will be same as original hardware, but maybe not. That will be destroy hardware vintage and modern synths selling. So far, plugins and hardware aren't sounding same. They are sounding close which is also good. Recently I check Arturia Synthi and definitely sound isn't same with hardware. I will not tell where is biggest differences is, but it is :)

I have the 3 day free trial. I'm having fun but I'm realizing that I'm not going to use every synth. I'm kind of fighting a battle in my head between the value of this collection (which is amazing) and the utility I would get from it. I also don't want to regret not having it in the future lol

Price Arturia Collection 9 is atm 600 Euro. I own the collection 8. The upgrade to Collection9 is 300Euros, so half the price This is my "special" upgrade price and i own a lot of other Arturia VST's and hardware, like the Keylab 88. What do you think, should they make me a better offer? Like 200 (a third of the new price)?

Informative and entertaining. I like guitars and orchestral music, so I'm of the opinion that more retro-sounding synthesizers sound more fitting and organic in those settings (imagine a prog-rock-keyboardist in a natural habitat). Concerning synths, we are spoiled for choice and the point of entry into the synth world is a bit lower than full-on orchestral scoring both financially and know-how (in spite of leaps and bounds in that regard). I'm convinced that even freeware synth plugins can get you a capable sound that non-connoisseurs cannot discern once all the other elements are in the mix.

Looks as if you had switched to Logic permanently,I seem to have missed that video. Nice walk down memory lane soundwise, puts me right back to the 80ies with the funny hairdo and clothing... 😂😇(and all the great music, of course, and when vintage synths were the latest and greatest everyone pined over...)

If you see a chance you take it, to find romance!!! First chords,,,, was that sound, but forget who it was 90s. Or the Lionel Richie "You are the Sun, you are the Rain." Song. And im not a huge pop fan. But those thick smooth, are deep hitting analog sounds.

The acoustic piano sounded way better than I thought it would being a synthesizer. I wouldn't use it for any orchestral music, but it'd be perfect for some Pop tracks.
