I'm so glad you elaborated on the hassles it takes to get these videos done. I don't think many people realize the sheer amount of work goes into this and how exhausting and dangerous it can end up being. I can honestly say, I GENUINELY appreciate these videos and the education you bring more than you realize. Thank you for putting up with the frustrations and unfamiliar cultural experiences that come with traveling through other countries just to bring us some of the best reptile focused free education around. I hope you realize how much is it greatly appreciated.
I lived in a rural village in Kenya for three months as part of a university internship. I relate to everything you said! Literally every moment of every day was a balancing act between meeting cultural expectations and trying not to be taken advantage of. Almost got kidnapped at one point too, but that's another story!
This all happened after Uhuru in the 60's. Only Southern Africa were not completely destroyed, but that happened a decade, later cheered on by the western politicians and media. Very sad.
Hi there. I live in South Africa and worked in 80 percent of the countries in Africa. So i know all about African time and you give me something nice. We can talk about all these experiences for days however I want to thank you for doing all this to educate us and your time and effort is so appreciated. Glad you're home safe.
I can’t wait to watch them ether bud I’ve been keeping and breeding Savannah monitors and ball pythons among many other species for over 30years now and these videos and knowledge is way overdue. I hope it opens the eyes of many and people start to appreciate and care for these species better. I can’t wait to take my trip there with the soul purpose of filming and studying Savannah monitors in the wild. I just want more people to respect and care for them better and not treat them as cheap disposable pets. That’s why when I find other dedicated and passionate Savannah monitor keepers if they want I usually give them a captive bred baby and help educate them on proper care so they can enjoy these amazing monitors and hopefully inspire someone else or the nest generation. Well I hope you have a great day and wish you guys the best and just wanted to say I love your channel and all guys do for reptiles 🙋♂️✌️
As much as I have reservations about "In the wild for captivity" type stuff, I do really enjoy your videos and the work you put into them. I love seeing any reptile in basically any (healthy) environment, and especially in an interesting place as West Africa. The politics of reptiles in places like that or the rest of Africa, conservation, it becomes a messy and complicated conversation that people seem to distill far too often into "leave the animals alone and they'll be fine" or "stop all wild caught animals" not realizing that the people will then just kill them all of export stops. Not to mention in other places the majority of WC animals are from deforestation, being gathered after habitats are destroyed for development etc. The whole thing is very nuanced for sure, and regardless what you do helps provide context let alone appreciation for these wonderful animals we are blessed to be able to have in our lives. Thank you.
Thank you for taking the time to give such an extensive look at the behind the scenes of this. It's a great look into not only the work you do, but also the cultures in the places you go to do that work
I'm definitely voting yes on the Strange Adventures channel! I'm glad you made it home safe. Your dedication is out of this world. Hopefully you won't run into such intense hassles on your future adventures.
Now I understand why there's such minimal information on Savannah monitors in the wild. No one wants to go through what you did out there. I'm super appreciative of your dedication to getting this information to us. Really looking forward to all your new content from Africa.
Dav, thank you. Truly, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You have done SO much good with this. Thanks to these videos we can take better care of our reptiles. We know more about the plight of the people in West Africa and the reality of what will happen if we stop exports. This has been so eye opening on so many levels
Fantastic update, Dāv! We can’t wait to see these vids. The sacrifices made are an absolute testament to the passion you drive into what you do, and we’re better for. Truly appreciated, sir.
I am so excited to see ball pythons in their natural habitat! I just bought my first ball python and I was just thinking about how I would love a Dāv Kaufman video about them in the wild. I’m sorry for all the troubles you went through, but I’m sure you brought back some amazing content! Rattle on 🐍
That’s what I’m waiting for too 🙌 I’ve been keeping and breeding Savannah monitors for over 30years now and ball pythons. African species have always been my top favorites their such tough species. I just had 3 clutches of Savannah monitor eggs hatch with 83 beautiful perfect healthy babies and now down to 40 left after gifting and selling them. I absolutely love them and they definitely are my favorite monitor species and I hope more people will learn to appreciate them and start caring for them better. It’s sad how underrated they are and how they are treated as trash pets and disposable monitors. I really hope that’ll change soon and that’s why I always try educating people about these amazing monitors. Well I hope you have a great day and wish you the best i also film a lot of what I do so check it out sometime 🙋♂️✌️
You're so somber in this video, but I love how real and honest you were about how gritty and difficult things were. I actually enjoyed the rawness of this video so much.
Its nice to see a video like this giving the background of your videos and all your hard work! Having grown up in Zambia and still living in Africa, it is sad how difficult things can be, from the "gifts" to the impact on wildlife. Cannot wait to see your new videos coming up with the footage your shot.
I’m glad you made it back safe and sound! It sounds like a trip of a life time either way you look at it with all the good and bad. I’m super excited to see what what you found out with the ball pythons along with everything else! I can only imagine getting to see these amazing animals in their natural habitat. Thank you and I can’t wait to see these videos!
As a breeder and keeper of Savannah monitors and ball pythons for over 30 years I’m so stoked to watch these videos. Savannah monitors are so underrated and not properly taken care of and that’s my goal to teach people how to properly care for them and offer people healthy captive bred babies so they don’t have to deal with wild caught problems. I’d truly love to stop the wild collection and farm hatching of Savannah monitors but I completely understand the issues that would come along with that. But if people keep getting unhealthy wild caught Savannah monitors for pets and they don’t thrive then it continues to give these monitors a bad name as trash monitors. I just truly love them and want to see them appreciated
3 of the most exported reptiles. And there's literally no quality video of them wild. I can't wait for this series! Especially the savanna monitors! Cheers!
DUDE!!! I am just blown away. I knew that it takes a lot to set up a particular shoot, but then you add all of the road blocks and the general health decline and still want to/have to make it happen! Props to everyone who plans this and goes through it no matter what. Dav, you are a wild man and I truly appreciate you keeping it real and raw! YES, PLEASE on the strange adventures! I'm not able to get out and do crazy things anymore, but I could live vicariously through your's and other's excitingly strange adventures!
As someone from Ireland who lived and worked (volunteer) in Mozambique for over 6 months, 1. With all the strange things I have seen in 3-4 African countries, plus many other countries around the world, absolutely yes to the new channel! I want to see those videos! I have experienced tribal healers in Southern Africa, I want to see everything that happed in West Africa! And 2. I found this video deeply entertaining and nostalgic! It’s interesting to know that so many African practices of scamming tourists and foreigners, seem to happen in every African country! I have never been to West Africa, but it sounds to me like you got charged American prices! Lol I’m sorry! The police would always try to bribe us as well. But because I was there with an established European development aid organisation, we were well warned! We never brought our passports into the city, because the cops were known for taking them and not giving them back unless you paid them American dollars!! They wanted $50-100! Not a chance! They were allowed to look at my photocopy of my passport and that was it! They tried for dollars, but when I laughed at them and told them in Portuguese that I didn’t have dollars, that I was working there as a volunteer, which meant that we only got paid enough to eat and we were paid in Metacais, Mozambican currency! The disappointment! So then they would beg us to buy them a refresco! A cola or some other drink! If I could afford it, I would get them a cold drink, but if I was as poor as them that day, I would just laugh and say better luck next time! Sorry Dave! But I don’t know if you would get away with that in West Africa. In my experience, Mozambicans aren’t aggressive, they are just so incredibly poor and desperate. So, they might mug you, but if you run after them shouting, in my experience, 10/10 times, they will give you your stuff back! It’s up to you to decide if what they have taken is worth more to you or them. Also, the cops and army are not the hungry ones, they are not the desperate ones, they just have an easy way to extort foreigners. But all those people carrying massive loads on their heads and “sweeping” the dirt away from the dirt outside their homes with a tree branch for a brush, they will always need any help you are able to give. I truly can’t wait to see your movies and videos. But I am so sad about the state of the wildlife, although I am not surprised about it in the least.
Oh, and African time is most certainly a thing that you need to get used to! And after a month or 2, it kind of becomes the new norm! But only because you now know what to expect, plus, there’s nothing really that you can do about it but make your plans around it. Also, a lot of those people don’t usually have anywhere that they need to be by a certain time, and generally, they are just really laid back! As for going to restaurants for dinner! Yeah, in my experience, menus were just for show, usually, if they had any food, there would only be one meal available and most of the time in Mozambique, it was chicken soup! Only, by the time you got towards the bottom half of the bowl, you usually discover that it is actually chicken feet soup! Haha Most of the time, their feet were the only chicken in the soup! If you were lucky, you might get chicken necks too!
Dav living off #crafty in West Africa. I can only imagine. Glad you made it back in one piece. I've made that trek a couple of times. It really changed my perspective on life. I have so many stories that I will never forget. Can't wait to see the footage!
I can appreciate how hard it must have been as I have been there, too. It sounds like you have brought back some really good footage and info. I can’t wait!!!!
Sounds like you had a genuine African adventure! I spent several months in Equatorial Guinea and the surrounding countries and found describing it to people back home difficult. You do a great job describing the hardships. I don't miss those checkpoints at all!
Wow, that sounds like a lot to go through and so glad you made it back safely. The culture and environment in west africa sounds very different from where I am located. At least you'll have a better idea what to expect should you ever go to rural Africa again. Looking forward to your videos!
I'm glad you made this video explaining all the difficulties in filming not to mention all the extra stuff you dealt with in Africa, makes it more rewarding and I'm sure what you're showing us is nothing like the in person experience you had
So glad you made it back safe and did get cool footage. And if that's what tourists, who can leave, have to deal with, it hurts my heart for all the citizens forced to play into all of that as well daily.
I always have had a lot of appreciation for your videos and I love your "are we keeping them correctly" videos. The one for retics helped me a good deal in understanding my two SD babies better and to better care for them (for example, lots of high spots for them to feel save and also misting them a bit before the light goes out) and they appreciate it, too. It also always has show that you put A LOT of care and effort into your videos and that you go to great length to create them. However, my appreciation for your work and passion has increased even further after hearing what you're willing to put yourself through to provide that information and video footage. :D Btw, if you're incapacitated you can't get those shots either, so don't break a leg in the literal way (all the other leg breaking for your travels and video shoots however -it is a saying for good luck, yes? English language proverbs are tricky to me as a non-native speaker-). ;) And I'm excitedly looking forward to your Africa videos, they're going to be awesome! Thank you for your hard work! (Oh and the strange adventures sound super intriguing!)
Honestly Dāv I will watch anything you put out, so start the other channel. Your work is super appreciated and I think anyone who keeps reptiles should be paying close attention to your content. Glad you got home safe and can’t wait to see it all.
What you are doing is not going unnoticed Sir! You are one amazing reptile advocate! 💕 Thank you for making me understand some of ball pythons real challenges. This video has explained some things you just can not know unless you go. Thank you for sharing your experiences. I knew nothing of reptiles till I started watching the reptile UA-cam community. I've always cared for animals but you guys are making me understand everything about types of animals I didn't think much about as a young one.
So excited to see the videos from the trip to West Africa. That sounds like it was quite the adventure. I'm also very ready for another of your channels. Maybe work on taking a vacation at some point too lol.
Dav Kaufman's Strange Adventures seems like something I would watch. I used to watch Survivorman with Les Stroud on TV. Now he has a UA-cam channel where he plays all of his old shows and sometimes does director's commentary on them. He had a crew that dropped him off; but, he filmed everything on his own. Some of his shows showed him immersing himself into the native culture of the area he traveled to. Really interesting.
I truly appreciate all your dedication to this channel Dave I can't wait to see the content all the hard work that you put in and all your hard work that you put in
Wow Dav! Thanks for taking one for the team! That definitely sounds like a rough time, but we are all so grateful for your contributions over the years, and these past few months. Take care, eat a cheeseburger, and rattle on!
You are the most resilient, committed creator I follow, and I appreciate everything you do. 1) I'm thankful you made it back, despite the food, water, health and safety hazards 2) Do you think you'll write a behind-the-scenes book of this trip? Elysium Coast is a beautifully written, eye-opening intro to the struggles of many of the world's incredible species (you might enjoy reading "The Pillars of Hercules" by Paul Theroux) 3) Whatever you have to present to us concerning Fat Tailed Geckos, whether or not it is what you hoped for, will be content most of us will never see, so please post it! 4) I had no idea West Africa was in such a state, for animals, for people, and you're right about the pet trade re: ball pythons, etc., if that comes to a screeching halt, it will be catastrophic. What we take for granted here.....I have no words. Thank you so much for the preface to your videos and movie and I very much look forward to seeing them. Much love 💚
YES! More strange adventures, please! 🤩 I just watched your Ball python film, and the whole Dogon tribe, Voodoo temple, spirituality vibe made it so much more interesting to me. 👽🐍
I appreciate the hard work you do so that we can be educated!! It really shows what is really going on in the wild with the animals. To hear that the hoof animals, birds, monkey are gone is so sad and disheartening. I don’t think non- reptile or people that don’t think about wild animals and their habitats really care what is happening and how it affects everything down the pipeline. Again thank you for all you do
Finally what ive been waiting for...how is it that ball pythons are so unexplored in actual africa and we knw so little about them....thanks so much dav for your input in the reptile world...im so ready to see this video and learn from what you discovered🔥🔥🔥
This is so interesting how they extort "Something Nice". The restaurants without food. Sounds delightful at a hotel without a shower. How does one keep clean? The snakes and lizards filmed are wonderful. This is fantastic!
So you had a nice easy trip! lol Are you trying to get me to up my patreon so you can hire a cute assistant? Just messing with You Dav! Can not wait for the movie and vids
I am so glad you're home and stateside! Thank you for doing what you do. Whatever you want to film I will watch. Thank you for being real and sharing all of the parts of your adventures! God bless.
Thank you so much for going through all the hard work to bring us the videos you're about to put out. I'm glad this trip was also so rewarding for you, it makes all the difficulties worth it. I appreciate all the videos you've done in the past too!
I can't wait to see all of the content you are making and learn more from it as well. It's wild to hear how much went into this trip. I appreciate hearing about it all, and that despite the countless struggles, it was still a success!
I’m so excited for this movie project. Something that big should NOT be a free video fyi. We would all be willing to pay for this. Take your time on editing and make it real nice.
Nice job Dav and hats off to all your hard work, under all the circumstances that you laid out at the beginning of the video, So thank you very much for these priceless videos that you were able to make…!
I went to east Africa 20 years ago, even then seeing the poverty and corruption is so sad. A beautiful continent that needs so much help. Can’t wait to see the content you put out and the work that you put into getting it.
The little clip of the dasypeltis gansi (egg eating snake) got me really hyped! I know it wasn’t one of the species you mentioned focusing on but as someone working with and breeding this species I would be extremely grateful for any footage and information about them and their natural environment that you discovered. You went through a lot to get this experience and footage and I am so excited and grateful for anything you will share.
So glad you got home safe and well, I cannot wait to see the videos you shot! It’s so amazing to see someone care so much and put so much effort into what they do. Your channels are such amazing resources of information and entertainment
It's wild how much you went through over there. I somewhat understand how much setup and planning it takes, but the extent of what you guys went through on this one sounds so crazy (you DIDN'T break your leg, did you, Dav?). I can't wait especially for the ball python movie but also your other animal videos. As for the FORTH channel... as much as we would all love more of your content, don't burn yourself out and overextend. IF you can take care of yourself well and do the fourth channel... then can't wait! Just take care of yourself!
Dav. Hopefully people will now appreciate all of the time and effort you have put into, not just the Africa series that you are about to put out. But all the travel filmed you have put out over the years. The logistics of such trips is a nightmare, I’ve been there. At the time I can imagine you were thinking “what am I doing here”. But I am sure when the dust settles you look back and think what an adventure, how lucky am I. I completely understand you having to pay to keep the wheels greased and moving. On my last time in South Africa I was frog marched to an ATM and made to withdraw cash to payoff the police. Scary scenario. Can’t wait to see your output from this trip Dav. Keep on setting the standard that everyone else has to aspire too. Rattle on.
Sounds like it was a great learning experience, if nothing else! I wonder if there are any conservation groups out there that could help hook you up with locals that could facilitate your next trip, maybe find families you could stay with instead of hotels and someone to help you move around
Thanks for sharing these details. You have certainly earned your chops in making good documentaries in challenging settings. Especially learning about ‘bribe money’ and having to survive dehydration, girardia and other illnesses….
I'm so glad you elaborated on the hassles it takes to get these videos done. Dav, thanks for all you do for all of us. Your sacrifices mean a lot to the entire industry. Looking forward to all of the Africa videos.
I can't wait to see all the videos movie Dave I am sorry you had a ruff time over there but I am so glad you did get to do it!!❤️🙏
It’s all part of the adventure :)
@@davkaufmansreptileadventures I love your work I've learned so much from you keep up the great work and thank you for doing what you do
you are a soldier for our hobby and protector of our animals. show and teach us everything you consumed and make this crazy mess worth it.
Thanks. I intend to
Much respect Dave, much respect. I appreciate you passion for doing this for all us reptile keepers and breeders.

Enjoy your new nope rope. Ball pythons are great pets! They don't need walked in the rain or bark at a mouse fart in the middle of the night.
Strange adventures sounds awesome. I'd for sure subscribe. I'm glad that you made it home safe and I'm looking forward to all of the videos!

Remember, you are being offered free labor
Yes, please start the channel. Glad you made it back safely. The movie you made was great. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for soldiering on to provide all this firsthand experience and knowledge. I want weird adventures please!
Thank you for everything
Welcome to Africa
Glad your back safe.
What about Dāv Kaufman's Bizarre Adventures? Looking forward to these series of videos, thx for all your hardwork!
That was my alternative name actually but I thought the word strange covered more areas.
Btw, if you're incapacitated you can't get those shots either, so don't break a leg in the literal way (all the other leg breaking for your travels and video shoots however -it is a saying for good luck, yes? English language proverbs are tricky to me as a non-native speaker-). ;)
And I'm excitedly looking forward to your Africa videos, they're going to be awesome!
Thank you for your hard work!
(Oh and the strange adventures sound super intriguing!)
Thank you David. We appreciate you.
Honestly Dāv I will watch anything you put out, so start the other channel. Your work is super appreciated and I think anyone who keeps reptiles should be paying close attention to your content. Glad you got home safe and can’t wait to see it all.
No long post. Just, Thank you Dāv!
What you are doing is not going unnoticed Sir! You are one amazing reptile advocate! 💕
Thank you for making me understand some of ball pythons real challenges. This video has explained some things you just can not know unless you go. Thank you for sharing your experiences.
I knew nothing of reptiles till I started watching the reptile UA-cam community. I've always cared for animals but you guys are making me understand everything about types of animals I didn't think much about as a young one.
Amazing Job .... You are hero to go to Africa and go through all this ... Thank you
So excited to see the videos from the trip to West Africa.
Thank you for all you do. I thank you and my animals thank you.
Im from africa and we know the struggle of africa time!!! Thank you for pushing through
I truly appreciate all your dedication to this channel Dave I can't wait to see the content all the hard work that you put in and all your hard work that you put in
We highly appreciate your efforts in giving such a great video of our pets.
All that work seems kind of crazy, when the biggest youtubers out there, never even leave their bedrooms...
Thank you so very much. It’s going to be great to see the habitat of ball pythons! It is very appreciated!!
I Have heard a lot that filming in west Africa is A nightmare laity. Most people say it's just not worth the effort. Thank you for everything you do.
My man, so glad you made it back. Thank you for what you do.
Shout out to the mormon missionaries at 3:57. lol
Wow Dav! Thanks for taking one for the team! That definitely sounds like a rough time, but we are all so grateful for your contributions over the years, and these past few months. Take care, eat a cheeseburger, and rattle on!
Thank you Dav, your dedication is incredible and very valuable within Herpetoculture!
Much love 💚
I love your dedication to the environment! Thank you for all the hard work you have put in for this sir!
YES! More strange adventures, please! 🤩
I just watched your Ball python film, and the whole Dogon tribe, Voodoo temple, spirituality vibe made it so much more interesting to me. 👽🐍
I missed Kuskos "RATTLE ON!" in the intro! But after watching I am just happy that you're home safe and healthy.
You’re a legend man, basically risking your life to see these awesome animals in the wild I love it thank you
Can’t wait for all of it!!!!
Super excited to see it all.
Thank you for your transparency. UA-camrs fail to share the downside of traveling & filming in different countries
This is amazing, thank you! Can't wait to see what you found.
I am glad you share your videos with us, I appreciate. I love your videos.
African here... greetings Dav please visit again especially East Africa would love seeing homeland reptiles on the channel
🖤🖤🖤💪🏿
After hearing all the struggles, do you really think he’d want to go back?
He went to shitty part of Africa... governments itself is clandestine and unstable.
@@GrizzlyDave85 its a completely different part of a continent bro
Africa sounds like a blast. Glad you got your videos shot, and got back home safely.
Absolutely start the channel! Ive learned so much from you and appreciate your soul.
Excited about the Africa videos! Hope you get some rest!
This is so interesting how they extort "Something Nice". The restaurants without food. Sounds delightful at a hotel without a shower. How does one keep clean? The snakes and lizards filmed are wonderful. This is fantastic!
You are a superhuman, Dav! Thank you for this.
YOU ARE A LEGEND OF LEGENDS! No such person will ever even come close!
Thank you so much for sharing your traveling experience. I hope your viewers listen very carefully.
Thank you for taking the time to make these videos! I appreciate you!
I’m so excited for this movie project. Something that big should NOT be a free video fyi. We would all be willing to pay for this. Take your time on editing and make it real nice.
Looking forward to seeing your work. Congrats Dav
Rattle on.
Thank you. That’s exactly it!
Sounds like it was a great learning experience, if nothing else! I wonder if there are any conservation groups out there that could help hook you up with locals that could facilitate your next trip, maybe find families you could stay with instead of hotels and someone to help you move around
I would love to see a Strange Adventures channel! Glad you trip was worth it and you were able to get back home safely.
I can't wait for the ball python movie! You're a hero to me Dav! Trying to follow in your footsteps!
Awesome and very thoroughly explained video Dav!
Thanks for sharing these details. You have certainly earned your chops in making good documentaries in challenging settings. Especially learning about ‘bribe money’ and having to survive dehydration, girardia and other illnesses….
