Hi Joseph, I'm not a fan of noodling either, so I want the content to be useful and reflect what most guitar players would play with this type of gear. Did you have a pedal that you preferred out of these two? Thanks for joining the TTL community. Cheers
Greatest side by side comparison I’ve seen for these pedals- I find the Rat a little flubby on the bass notes at higher gain settings so I prefer the OCD but both are great pedals
@@TheToneLounge it helped me to understand better what I like of each pedal. Both are very versatile, and it's the first time I can listen to them side by side. Now I understand why the Rat is THE Rat. Thanks!!
As someone who owns both I will chime in, if I could only have one? The Rat, it’s more versatile overall. The OCD sounds great but requires some tweaking with the amp settings as it can sound really dark (in my experience ymmv) both are great but it depends on what you need it for. Wildcard option, the Caline SandStorm distortion, it’s super cheap and does Marshall/OCDish tone in a box with the added benefit of a Presence knob 🤷🏻♂️
@@TheToneLounge Yes, the V2.0 that I had was an impressive pedal but was dark. The tone control can let more highs through, but cannot cut the bass. I sold it and bought a V1.4 that has less low end. It is an original early V1.4, so still has the asymmetric germanium clipping diode D2.
Had both and prefer Barber. Direct Drive for MIAB or Gain Changer for ANY amp. Sold Rat. Kept OCD for options - some amps love it. Also kept Sparkle Drive and Archer - mostly as boosts.
i find the ocd fulltone so much nicer than the v2. dont know if its a regret i should take for getting the v2 or not but mine barely makes any difference in terms the heaviness of the drive.
how do you like the RAT vs. your Red Llama? I know that's comparing rodents and camelids, but they are kind of birds of a feather, a distorted fuzzy feather, maybe?
I much, much prefer the Red Llama. The Rat is more versatile in it's features and gain. The Red Llama breaks up in a different way, which I prefer. The Red Llama MK II (like the one I own) lacks a tone knob and is not super gainy. Yet, that's what I love about it. Red Llama: ua-cam.com/video/kIsg2c--2yA/v-deo.html Rat 2: ua-cam.com/video/aSFptisbxF0/v-deo.html
Seems to me the Rat is a bit, well hairier at higher gain. Their both fine pedals. Just ordered the JHS PackRat so I could have all the Rats! Call me the Pied Piper.
The Rat gets fuzzy at higher gain levels, while the OCD gets bassy and undefined. I’m curious to try that Pack Rat. It’s a very similar concept to the Cranium from Zander Circuitry.
I appreciate that you use a Vox! Not many other reviewers do… in fact the only other person is Schnobel with an AC30. I’ve been using Voxes for the last 10 years (AC15, AC30, AC4 and currently Ac10) So thank you for that!
Cheers mate. A Vox user here as well. Currently using AC10 and loving it. And yes, Tone Lounge have really been helpful in sticking to my decision of getting a Vox. Was about to get AC30, but too loud for my use

Now this is how you do comparison videos! And you played rhythm and not just noodled up and down the fret board!! Subbin to this!!

Thanks Joe. I'm trying to make these comparison as fair as possible. I'm glad it was useful. Cheers
I have same RAT. Today my demons said repeadetly "buy an OCD" but thanks to you i think i dont need it that much. You saved me this time 🤘
This has been one of my favorite videos. Thanks Jonathan!
Thanks buddy! What did you like about this video?

I had an OCD for a while. I was a little underwhelmed with it. I’ve got a Rat arriving today. Looking forward to trying it out.
So, how are you liking it?
Following this thread for updates 🤔

The new ocds are dark pedals and Rats definitely cut bass. Rat is more fuzzy and more compressed vs the ocd which is more open and distortion like
I have not tried the new OCD. Mine is the 1.4 version and it’s already kind of dark. If the new ones are darker...yikes! 😂

Great playing! 🤩👍
Thanks Bosse! Cheers
Nice review. To my ears the ocd sounds more muddy while the rat sounds more sparkly
I'm hearing this too Norman. Which one would you pick?
This
Plimsoul set to hard clipping is a lot closer to a Rat than the OCD.
I’ve not tried that one yet. Is it based on anything we know?

@@TheToneLounge It's a great pedal. Josh did a great job!
The RAT is soooo close to being a fuzz!
It can definitely get in that type of territory!
Rat is more hairy and fizzy sounding to me.
Yeah, I hear it as being more full frequency.
I have an OCD it's one of the best pedals ever made.....but same with Rat haha
Another winner cheers Jonathan
Thanks! All the videos for this entire month will be in this style. I hope you like them as well. Cheers
Ocd is more versatile
Perhaps that is right. :)
Sooo which do you use with your Vox?
I prefer the Rat!

@@darkhaze515 yeah the AC30 is a great amp but not my first choice for home use. The AC10 is such a great combo! Are you still digging it?
👍🏻
😀
Ocd
What do you like about it?
one is an overdrive and the other is a distortion ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ clipping much different, try comparing the two in a heavy metal or grunge scenario...
Sometimes you take two different pedals, with very different circuits and yet they can cover very similar grounds.
