Will be adding this to our list of places to visit when we get on the road. Enjoyed the very through review. Thanks for sharing and happy travels, Brad & Paula.

I live near the Maybury State Park, and there are in fact 3 remaining buildings from the Sanatorium. The main office on Beck Road which was a doctor’s home, a relocated home which was on 8 Mile (now on Beck Road), and an old small shack. There are also the cement remains of the main complex’s foundation, and the foundation of a since destroyed doctor’s home which was near the relocated one now on Beck Road. Both these locations will take some walking to get to for they are on the extremities of the park and are off the trails. The park is marvelous for being in such a densely populated area (relative to the rest of MI). Also, there are still some stone quarantine markers and the original wrought iron “Maybury Sanatorium” sign, which in the past would have been flanked by two stone peers, but is now planted in the ground.

Thanks for the additional information. This was definitely one of those parks where a lot of history can be discovered if you look for it.

Back in my high school days I heard about the sanitarium I at Maybury that was haunted. Obviously the folks that told me about this didn't know the difference between a sanatorium and a sanitarium, but I guess the story was better. Anyway glad to see it's being put to a useful purpose but it's too bad they're tearing down the last remaining building. Keep up the good videos.

I spent a year and a half in there as a child with tb. We were told back then that it was haunted, They would show us the building that the ghost lived in and told to never go past that point,I'm pretty sure it was told to us to keep us in line.

Wow! Mr. Maybury died of Tuberculosis. It does and it doesn't surprise me because if you work around or with patients with infectious diseases you are at higher risk of contracting the disease. But thank you for your great history and information about this great park that I had no idea about!

Glad you enjoyed learning about this park. One of the reasons we did this video series was to learn more about the Michigan State Parks and share what we learned with others. Thanks for watching and commenting! -Ari

We didn't see any while we were there, but certainly there would be some. Remember that in Michigan, though, only 1 of the 18 species we have is venomous, so if it doesn't have a rattle, it's not going to hurt you. Thanks for watching!
