  • Russell Simmons sat down with DJ Vlad to talk about his new book The Happy Vegan, and reveals he began living his life like a monk after many years of drug abuse. "We really have issues regarding the consumption of meat. Not only does it make you sick and destroy the planet. But it's the worst karmic disaster in the history of the world." He told DJ Vlad, "You can process a lot of bulls**t you're not supposed to eat, that's bad for your body. Just cause you can process it, does not make it good for you."
    Watch the full interview above to hear why Russell decided to write the book, how the meat industry's processes are harming the earth as a whole, and much more.

      I'm afraid vegetarian again, cutting out dairy is pretty difficult not impossible but difficult.

    I grew up on meat and milk. Drank milk everyday, played outside alot. Until my early 20s, I started breaking bones and my Dr got concerned, turns out I had early osteoporosis. Was confused how this could be. Did some research and what Russell states is true. I did better for my body by NOT drinking milk or having dairy. I went to almond milk, which contains way more calcium, my body absorbs it and based on my blood test results, they are back up. Now if I do have dairy, half the time I feel ill or have minor Lactose Intolerance problems.
    I explain it as the big 3: 1-animal welfare, 2-personal health, 3-environmental safety.

      Many people find it hard to give up cheese - there is an addictive chemical in it, so expect addiction withdrawal when you stop eating it. I didn't find going vegan hard at all. It just wasn't an option to continue eating other animals. The immorality of it is just so huge.

    Russell Simmons is right with every single thing he said. Going vegan was the best decision I ever made. I am studying nutrition at university and my school is sponsored by the dairy industry. They sponsor wherever they can especially schools, universities ect. The university revolves around money and information that goes out to future dietician is based to benefit the dairy industry. Everything revolves around MONEY. All the huge nutrition society's are sponsored by the meat and dairy industries. As an animal activist you are literally put on a terrorist list in America. The meat and dairy industries are so powerful. 78 percent of scientific studies are not released to the public, they control the final information that is released to the public and twist it. They spend billions of dollars in marketing to brainwash you all. Do your research and stop being a robot controlled by these industries!

  • @GloriousHustle

    He makes a very lot of points. I stopped dealing with Red meat (Pork, Beef, etc) and Dairy Milk years ago and feel the difference. Switch to Almond Milk (Which I've seen are sold out faster than normal milk) and Protein meats like Chicken breast and so on but damn to go Fully Vegan? You can't just do that overnight... You'd have to gradually get yourself there. It doesn't hurt to change your eating process sometimes and make good choices. Shit even I slip up bruh but damn it's killing alot of our people. Better to be aware than clueless. Alternatives are always out there.

  • @FOODREVOLUTION360

    He speaks truth. I stopped eating sugar, starch and grains almost 2 years ago and I feel GREAT. My blood work is excellent. The American “food pyramid” is HIGH in sugar/starch/grains which are foods that are GROSSLY contributing to type II diabetes and all sorts of cancer. I am slowly cutting meat out of my diet (I will still eat some dairy and some fish but no land animals) but it has been hard finding low carb sources of protein until I discovered Beyond meat recently and I LOVE IT! 😊 Meat doesn’t even taste the same as it did 20 to 25 years ago.

      T. Best meet doesn’t necessarily make you fat although it can but it definitely has a host of negative health consequences that come with consuming it. High in saturated fat and extremely carcinogenic high in cholesterol and certain hormones that promote cancer’s as well as the other contaminants that promote heart attacks and strokes as well as diabetes and heart disease as well as cancer or the two leading causes for those that consume a typical western diet and are the leading causes of death in the United States. Those who consume diets that don’t contain any animal products such as large test control groups like the Seventh-day Adventists and those who consume very little animal products like those from Okinawa,Prove to have the lowest rates of all these mass killers that were previously mentioned.

    I have been saying this for years. I have diverticulitus. Same condition as Brock Lesner. I cut out red meat along time ago because I had the hardest time digesting it. And just to let you know he is telling the truth, I have seen two advertisements this week. One was for Breyer's ice cream, the other was for subway. Both state they do not use Pro hormones. Their cows are naturally fed. For Subway, Chickens are natural. So my thing is, if what people like Russ and myself are saying is untrue, then why are these companies feeling the need to defend themselves. They are stating they do not use pro hormones and These animals are not farmed Are they saying that everyone else dose ?

    • @todaysrealhealth8153
      @todaysrealhealth8153 8 років тому

    There is nothing wrong with eating meat as long as you consume it as part of a balanced diet. Processed food is the worst thing we can feed our bodies. But the biggest problem we have, especially you guys in the USA, is that food including animals are being genetically modified and fed growth hormones etc

    This one of those points you really can't argue. It's all true. Our systems are not meant to consume meat. It does make us sick. It does have an immense affect on the environment. Unfortunately American society has been eating meat since 6 months old so it's incredibly hard to break the habit.

      Yeah. What fruit, vegetable, bean, or legume is not good for you?

    • @LoneStarVII
      @LoneStarVII 8 років тому

      Nicole S Is that the entire spectrum of what is natural in the world? Plants perhaps? This one is quite simple to think about.
      Also there are fruits and vegetables that while they are not bad for you, they aren't exactly good for you either and have no real benefit in eating them as opposed to anything else. A simple google search will suffice.
      The point is if someone tells you anything (not just food) is natural, that does not automatically mean it's good for you, which is why saying something is natural is superfluous in ascertaining whether something is actually healthy.

    • @blackedout1990
      @blackedout1990 8 років тому

      I thought you were going to talk about a fruit/veggies that a lot of people already didn't know had adverse effects... I do of course know of certain fruits and vegetables that either can't be digested by the human body, and those individuals that claim "starches are bad". However, most people who do their research before and after becoming vegan/vegetarian know what to eat and what not to eat. There are also fruits/veggies that aggravate/cause arthritis (which I went through personally).
      So, yeah, you're right. However, people usually know what to eat (plant-wise) and what not to eat, and stay away from it or don't eat it at all. That's not an excuse to continue eating something that spikes cholesterol levels and the risks of coronary diseases.

There are places like Veggie grill that create great replacement foods that will make you think you are eating meat but you really aren't. Tofu is from soy milk and I do not drink soy as it can have hormonal effects so soy isn't good for everyone.

      I didn't say it was all unhealthy. There are different types of fish that have tremendous health benefits. HOWEVER, that doesn't erase the fact that all meat, eggs, and dairy contains cholesterol and has the potential to clog even the smallest arteries, no matter what benefit it may hold.

      +T. Best wow that was the most retarded comment i read all year, but to entertain your comment, to vegans, meats are not human foods, we juyst need proteins which we can get from plants, so i ask you this, why do animals eat our food so much ?

    • @yohannes1663
      @yohannes1663 8 років тому

      T. Best fyi humans farm animals and we also farm food to feed animals we are not eating there food b/c the vegetables we farm for humans is different from the food animals are fed

    • @yohannes1663
      @yohannes1663 8 років тому

      It takes an enormous amount of water to grow crops for animals to eat, clean filthy factory farms, and give animals water to drink. A single cow used for milk can drink up to 50 gallons of water per day-or twice that amount in hot weather-and it takes 683 gallons of water to produce just 1 gallon of milk. It takes more than 2,400 gallons of water to produce 1 pound of beef, while producing 1 pound of tofu only requires 244 gallons of water. By going vegan, one person can save approximately 219,000 gallons of water a year.

    • @yohannes1663
      @yohannes1663 8 років тому

      sing land to grow crops for animals is vastly inefficient. It takes almost 20 times less land to feed someone on a plant-based (vegan) diet than it does to feed a meat-eater since the crops are consumed directly instead of being used to feed animals. According to the U.N. Convention to Combat Desertification, it takes up to 10 pounds of grain to produce just 1 pound of meat, and in the United States alone, 56 million acres of land are used to grow feed for animals, while only 4 million acres are producing plants for humans to eat.

      There might be some truth to what you had to say about Def Jam as far as signing trash talent, but that's the risk you take, that's part of the game, just like sports. I think you're putting a little bit too much responsibility on Russell Simmons head. I don't think he's the reason why the rap game is spiraled out of control. These motherfuckers wearing dresses and feminine jewelry and makeup and calling each other bae and secret ghostwriters and mumble rap is what is making the rap game spiral out of control. It was nothing Russell Simmons did at all. He didn't do shit but HELP build an empire. The course of today's rap is undoing all of that progress from what I'm seeing.
