This must've been the most horrifying moment in GS' adult life. It's basically his childhood trauma all over again: Goblins planning to raid his home and rape/kill his loved ones.
When something like that happens, it's less of a "horrified feeling", and more of a "I can stop it this time" "I'm not a kid anymore". Goblin Slayer probably felt a lot of rage in that moment.

Right here is absolutely his worst moment. He probably gets better after mind.
@@danzaivar Yeah, it's definitely after she refuses to leave that he begins thinking of how he can possibly beat the horde, and turns to his fellow adventurers for help
@@Memento--Mori The first time he solo'd fighting goblins in an open area around a village, they nearly pounded him into the mud, he had a panic attack, and he barely made it back to the edge of town before passing out. In fact, thinking of going home seemed to be all that got him even that far given how bad a condition he was in after that fight. After that he decided to AVOID fighting goblins in the open. Seeing that the goblins were coming in force, IN THE OPEN, to attack Cow Girl and his home... Well, yeah, I think he was absolutely terrified. He's not one to show his fear, but that doesn't mean he's not afraid. It just means he's been trained to act in spite of the terror.
That's sort of what he was telling Priestess when they were eating the ice cream and he told the story of thinking the ground would swallow him up as a kid. He was terrified, and is STILL terrified, but he has to walk otherwise he'll never be able to do anything. That's the secret. He's still afraid of goblins to this day. But he faces them and kills them over and over again because otherwise he'll never be able to do anything.
The fact that it's Cow Girl under threat and the fight is against a hundred goblins in an open field just makes it worse for him, I think.
That reveal was worthy of a horror movie style music stinger

When I first watched it I panicked
I actually think the juxtaposition with the gentle, contemplative music and background makes it even scarier. The first time I saw this, it was chilling.

I said it before and I'll say it again, Goblin Slayer is a character driven story, it's about the struggles of people trying to sustain or reconnect their humanity and sanity in this cruel, brutal world, with Goblin Slayer at the center of it
Cowgirl is the last straw of connection to his humanity, while the rest of the characters are to prevent him from becoming a "goblin" and helps him to become a "human" again. That's what the monologue from episode 2 is about

Another aspect to this will indeed be Priestess, I think she like Cowgirl is what continually reminds the Goblin Slayer of the innocence that must be protected in this world. Indeed, she has her own problems, but I think GS helps to hold her up, and she with him. I wouldn’t be surprised if that dynamic isn’t further explored. It’s this and the small movements toward humanization that keep GS from falling into the abyss. I think we are about to see what desperation looks like, and it will probably freak some viewers out.
But yea, Character driven as all hell, this is going to be interesting to watch develop. They are all absolutely fascinating.

They will ultimately fail. The creator of Goblin Slayer has said it isn't going to have a happy ending. We've also been provided with hints in the form of such cryptic statements as, "Those who fight too long become what they hate", and "sometimes, the hero becomes the monster in the end."
Cow Girl is the only one alive that could drag Goblin Slayer to the ground with no resistance from him XD

And in the end when we saw all those foot prints all you could really feel was the devastation from it. I really do love this clip.

@@Blad3sofWaR 10 months late, but I would say the show is weakest right after he gets his party. It slowly ramps up from there and ends really strong. Definitely worth continuing.

they did this so well, no dialogue, no face to see but we see those footprints and instantly know what it means
Those who fight monsters should see to it that in the process they themselves do not become a monster... (Or in this case a Goblin)
And if you gaze long into the abyss, the abyss will in turn gaze back into you
This is similar to a Punisher or Batman story, Goblin Slayer has very little humanity left in him and it's due to his determination to kill all the Goblins after suffering through the trauma of witnessing how horrific the world truly is
But slowly that humanity is being rekindled through those around him
Ya know, honestly this Philosophical aspect is rather fitting for this one. Also, good use of Nietzsche by the way, he indeed suffers the horrors of this world and almost let them consume him. But perhaps it is this aspect of his crusade which keeps him reasonably sane, which is his drive to never allow what happened to him happen to anyone else ever again. That and the bonds with others which he has forged through both shared experience and their persistence.
I think the next episodes will be about what I think is coming, and it terrifies me, for we are about to see what desperation looks like.
If you've played Baldur's Gate, there is a prophecy that states just that.

From his initial personality, I would’ve thought he might’ve considered breeding with the strongest woman he finds for the best offspring... But really, we all know it’s either cow girl or nothing.
Goblins are mostly a threat because people don't see them as enough of a threat... and they are so common that people can not pay very well for them either else people would be broke. It's a vicious cycle...
Green Stuff. He has cow girl, priest, counter girl, elf girl to choose from and is just season 1.
he does have children, and they carry on the work of doing things no one has the stomach for... all the way to Mars.

all this time he has been carefully checking for signs of Goblins. He has been moving small tufts of grass, checking behind rocks, for any sneaky footprints left behind. And then the one time Goblins were actually there they weren't sneaky at all. Looked like they were having a mosh pit.
He was probably expecting a raiding party of a dozen or so. Not the hundreds.
We can't see his face, but we can definitely tell he was thinking "No, not again..." when he saw the footprints.
I love Goblin Slayer's character so much. So many D&D characters have nothing at all to go back to; they are written as if their reason for adventure is because they have nothing left in their past. They are often orphans with no friends, no family, and no town to return to. But Goblin Slayer has his Osananajimi, and because of her he has a hope for the future; specifically HER future. He may overcome his demons and go on to have a some semblance of a normal life with her, or he may simply protect her and her own future family, but it's a future to protect nevertheless.
It's as beautiful and bittersweet a connection to the real world as a D&D character could have, and I love the way their relationship is portrayed: he pushes back against everyone else when they want to relax and have fun, but not her. Her love is the one true solace in his life.
I really need that next season to get here.
He doesn't push back against anyone, really. He participates in social occasions whenever hes invited (like the campfire scene) and actively has things to share with the party like the cheese. He communicates with Priestess Girl too, and he helps out the newbies when they ask him for advice.

I love that it's not just a few, there were at least dozens of goblins surverying the farm.
I like to imagine that canon cowgirl is stronger than goblin slayer like in the abridged, so he actually just couldn't resist when she pulled him down
There is a woman behind every great man. Someone who will take care of the great man once he’s exhausted from doing great things. Due to the harsh nature of doing great things, one needs to be bossed to perform greatly. Unfortunately that means the woman behind the great man gets neglected most of the time, but it does not mean the great man isn’t thankful to her. While she idolizes his unquestionable fervor to perform his great deeds.
I’m not saying that it’s only men and no women. There is no bridge ever built without support. No building without a foundation. No great person without a friend.

It would be an amazing thing to see Goblin Slayer fight all those goblins on his own terms. He couldn’t fight them alone in the open, but imagine the perfect scenario where he COULD fight them alone. That’s what I hope to see.
Loved how the scene ended. The dislike was probably from the Goblin Lord whose army was discovered. The rest of the dislikes are from the Goblin Lord's army. We need to band together now to fight off the dislikes. Who's with me!!

What a reality check her monologue was. Nothing lasts forever. Everyone will die. People will come and go from your life. Whatever moment you're experiencing, whatever stage of your life you may be in, be it a good or bad one, will end.
Can either be interpreted in a nihilistic way, meaning nothing matters, as it will all end eventually.
Or instead, the other way around. That since everything is finite, every person in your life, every moment, every relationship, not being forever lasting, is what gives it value. Worth. It's worthwhile, _because_ it's not infinite. It gives you all the more reason to cherish whatever, and whoever you have in your life. And that whatever hardship you encounter, is just as fleeting as the joys in life.

The worst thing, is that it's not scary at all. What's scary, is our own realisation of what's happening.

I'm actually happy what'll happen in the next two eps got put after the Water Town arc. It works better, in a narrative sense, than how it's presented in the Manga, at least.

I like that Goblon Slayer isn't a hero that Save the World, but is that Extra that everyone ignore. Except us.
he is just that background character that goes nearly unnoticed, you never remember his name but when people describe him you instantly go "oh that guy."
He has saved the world. Even if indirectly. Chosen Heroine’s hometown would’ve been attacked by goblins just like his was, but he destroyed the goblins first.

I really like this scene but I think the music should have turned alittle eerie when the footprints were revealed to add to the “Oh Crap..!” Moment.
That would be corny, I prefer if the music suddenly stops and everything turn silence

I don’t think GS was frightened. I think he was excited because all the goblins were coming to him instead of him having to track them down.
I knew that they would make the raid to the farm in one of the chapters, I wonder if they will do the same or it will be a black scene in that part (those who read the kanga will know what I'm talking about)

It’s a shame episode 11 is going to be a recap episode. They’re probably going to cut out so much by just having one episode to go over him asking for help and fighting the battle
