Thank you sir for this clear and simple demonstration of a quick release knot. I am used to cross ties but a lot of barns I go to to don't necessarily have this set-up, or it gets too crowded, so I have to come up with an alternate plan. Knowing how to tie this knot is super helpful...thank you!!😊
Thankyou for sharing! My son and I are just getting into the western life style. Learning from a few solid people. But there’s a lot thet can be overwhelming so Thankyou for taking it step by step
It’s interesting seeing other methods of hitching horses. I’ve always been taught to never hard tie a horse directly to a rail. We always attach the line to baling twine, which allows the horse to break free in the event of the horse spooking or panicking. We use a chain sinnet/daisy chain which is extremely simple to teach to students and children, and is also quick release and prevents the loose end of the lead rope from getting underfoot of the horse and risking tangling.
Problem with this is that my horse is too smart and pulls the end, great for a horse that doesn’t know how to do that, I have to do a different slip knot multiple times which gives me time to go get things before he undoes it all.
I use this knot...it's really good because it doesn't tighten up when the horse pulls back...the old quick release I used to use would tighten to the point where I had to cut the rope with a knife.
We typically "wrap" the leadrope for a horse that pulls back. Once they have a better understanding and preparation for being tied, then we progress to a "knot, depending a lot on the horse, the situation, the environment, etc.
I've never had a horse learn by watching, but you do need to stop them from fiddling with it or they definitely will figure it out eventually. Gate latches too!
Yes, but remember, Mr. Ed could probably drive a car if he could get in one, so don't judge anything based on him. He was an exception to the rule if there ever was one.
Only much more secure. With a bank robber or highwaymen knot if it’s not taut you can actually pull the loop through and it will become undone. But this version even if the rope is not totally taut the knot won’t become undone. Thank you.
Black horse : Thank **** for UA-cam--now I know that if I want to get away, all I need to do is grip the little bit hanging down with my teeth , tug it, and THEN I can gallop off to the paddock where that super- hot mare is! YEE......HAAW!
This is a horrible video. You know what you’re doing and you’re blocking what you’re trying to teach. You need to make it where we can see it. My Godh man. Frustrating trying to watch it so fast and do it at same time. Try to re Remember that when “”TEACHING!””

It's wrong? Oh you mean like the Bowline that everyone swore by up until about 2012 when they realized that it's responsible for killing dozens of people? There is no right knot, just the right one for the application, and for a new horse, this is the correct knot for the application. Also, how is this knot too difficult for you?
@@normanacree1635 I am sure it did Norman. But the real "name" of this knot is the "highwaymans knot". I know you would love to argue but i have better things to do. Have a good evening.
No this is not the highwayman’s knot/hitch. This fact becomes obviously after you examine both knots. Plus if the highwayman’s knot is not pull taut, shaking/pulling it will undo the knot (many UA-cam vids show this). This knot/hitch even if not taut will not slip out. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for the exceptional camera angle, and your slower speed during your demonstration of method. Greatly appreciated.

The smartest cowboy and best looking horse I've ever seen. Useful knot too!
Make more videos. You are a natural born teacher.

I liked your English and clear talking
Thanks for the tip! And may I say you have a fine horse there
Nope. You have crossed the line of horse flattery.

Way easier to understand than other vides I’ve seen on this.
Best dressed knot tying man in the West.
🤠
Gorgeous. Nice horse too.
What a beautiful horse🥰🥰🥰
Dam what a beautiful horse😍
Bloody beautiful horse, sir
Thanks! Good way to secure the mother in law!
Good way for my wife to tie me up!
Why, is she a nag?

City boy here, I wonder do some horses get wise to this and know how to release this knot themselves?
That's pretty slick
Awesome im using this for tying stuff down to truck bed instead of horses tho

Just tie a half hitch around the loop using the end of the rope (the part your horse may pull). Problem solved.
If your horse pulls the tail stick the tail down through the loop after you’ve finished the knot
Айтпаңыз😄
You should upload a video on here of your clever horse.
I work with people who could never figure that out.
Im assuming this would be a good dog tie off?
Beautiful horse
She didn't like being tied so close to the fence lol. Thanks for the video. It was very helpful.
Amazing and helpful video!!!
That looks a good knot for when I fish in my kayak (anchoring).
But wouldn't your horse drown? Leave the horse at home when you go kayaking!
how does this tie handle with horses that pull back?
I use this knot...it's really good because it doesn't tighten up when the horse pulls back...the old quick release I used to use would tighten to the point where I had to cut the rope with a knife.
Ms. Clifford I use it on my boat when I launch it. It's solid

Siberian hitch?
After the horse saw what he did. The horse now know pulling the other line with its teeth to free itself.
Yep, horse sense.
I always turn my back to my horse and block his vision when i untie this way ...

In case of fire
😅😂👏
Awesome video! untying this knot is easy, Is that possible , horse is smart enough to untie by itself?
Depends. Is its name Mr. Ed?
Yes it is possible for a horse to untie it. They are clever!
If they get bored they'll play around with it until they get it: once they get it once, they'll try it every time they're tied.
A smart horse can release itself.😁
The horse knows her role, she put her mouth right into the loop without hasitating.
Minha continência e respeito 💪🐎👏🐎🙌🐎🙏🙏🙏
Спасибо,очень понятно.
Pretty horse
I do a variation of that. It is called a 'bank robber' knot.
The actual name of the one you’re probably thinking of is the Highwayman’s Hitch
I had to tie half hitches. Horses aren't dumb. Mine knew exactly which end of the rope to bite and pull to free herself.
helps so much giving a like
I'm going to wear those clothes for shopping in Tescos
You're confusing Tescos with Tecsos ;)

I can see Mr. Ed strolling over and pulling the tag (tail) end 😉

Yes, but remember, Mr. Ed could probably drive a car if he could get in one, so don't judge anything based on him. He was an exception to the rule if there ever was one.
Now that horse understand how to release this?
You won't believe this but my mare learnt how to pull open the knot from her mouth. 🤦♂️
:) There is a way to put a "lock" on this knot, but that goes a little against the purpose of "quick release"
Oh she's not the first and she's not the last!

Looks like a "Highwayman's Hitch"
Not quite. This is more stable. I'm not sure if it's even a named knot...
That’s a highwayman’s or bank robbers knot.
