Hey, just for anyone also wondering
The reason you always seem you get bumped and others seem to phase through you is due to server delay. Their real position on the server is indicated by where their lightning rod is, and the visual boat that you can see (and get bumped by) is because of delay between server and player (if I remember correctly). This means that when people appear to phase through you, it's because they are actually ahead of you, and their ghost boat is only following along behind their real position. Others can get bumped by you, you just won't see it because they are bumped by your ghost which is behind you and which you cannot see.
