Hope you all enjoyed this video and thanks for stopping by!
Brian is absolutely correct on the Chisel stock. Unfortunately there was a batch of about 30 stocks that went out after a fitment adjustment that did not include the machined chamfer on the bottom of the front tang. It has been corrected on current production and we are taking care of everyone that received one of those stocks.
Easy fix with a file. I thought he made a bigger deal out of it then needed.
My next lever action rifle will have the Chisel stock
Thanks for following up, awesome to see a manufacturer in the comments!
@@Heavy-C imagine paying 400$+ for a buttstock that need fitting
@@Chuck89 that's an arbitrary number. I'd rather take 5 extra minutes and hand fit a part then have a sloppy fit because they have to accommodate for multiple manufacturer tolerances.
I like it best the way it came out of the box
Thank GOD I finally snagged one of these for MSRP🙌🏼🙏🏼🥳
Awesome!!
Thanks for the video. One thing we really want to point out is the height of the sights with our system allow you to see over the top of a can threaded on your 1895.
My xrs handguard doesn’t fit my marlin 1895 sbl. I’ve written yall emails and left a voicemail but no response for weeks . C’mon Midwest industries :-(
@@gunpowdergoon8727 🤣looks like they're ignoring you here too
Actually to their credit, I said something on Instagram and they got me squared away
Best lever action vids on youtube!
We concur!!
Thank you so much!!!
It’s a must have
I have several first quarter, gen 1 Rugers and only had an issue with fit and finish on one in 2005. They corrected it without issue or delay and sent some freebies for my trouble. Seems the one issue you had here is with the stock and not the firearm.
This one is is still on my want list. Thanks for your reports, I like what I'm seeing. Smooth!
I believe the best Marlin lever gun is the Remington made 2016 1895 CB 45-70. This beautiful Marlin lever gun made by Remington has Black American walnut forearm and buttstock, 18.5 “ octagonal barrel with Ballard rifling, the carrier is made from solid billet steel a first for Marlin, semi buckhorn rear, and gold bead front sights, 6+1 rounds, straight grip, trigger pull only 4 lbs. 6 oz. Compare that to the new Ruger made 1895’s with a trigger pull of over 7lbs.
I have one on order, Lord only knows when I’ll get it. I will probably put a Skinner peep sight on it. My friend and fellow Montanan will tell me if I’ll need a different front sight as well. That’s what I had to do with one of my Henrys. I’ll just keep the original laminated stock though I enjoyed seeing what options are available. Great video, thanks.
Ruger seems to have fixed a lot of the various issues with the 1895. It's nice that all the aftermarket parts fit... now we wait for them to be widely available and hopefully the return of the dark series.
I don’t know how you find the time to do all that you do, I appreciate that you do this as it saves me so much trouble 👍😁
Do you know if you can run Ruger number 1 pressures through this rifle, I cannot seem to find the right info.
I am soo keen to see the accuracy test’s you have lined up.
Thanks Brian.
I’m keeping mine as is , no custom or aftermarket anything … after I croak , it’ll be worth far more !!!
Thanks for the video! Awesome info and I’m glad Chisel fixed the issue. Their stock is sick!
Welcome! Yeah fortunately only a small bad batch got out.
I managed to snag one a few weeks ago at a local gun shop. I paid more than I'm willing to admit but it will be a long time before these are easily obtainable. I read that ruger is only making a limited amount this year, probably so they can focus on other models as well. I honestly didn't expect to see one in person for at least a year or more so I couldn't bring myself to pass it up. My only real complaint with it is that the ghost ring it comes with is rather large but you can get different sizes from XS for less than $15. But I guess it's meant to be a "guide gun" so it makes sense to use a larger aperture for close range.
Paid $1499 for mine. It will never be affordable again. 😂
Thank you so much for all the information I have a marlin Ruger trapper what system works best for the Holsen RMR red dot
I love the new Marlin 1895 SBL and hope to have one in my collection here in the near future. I think it is absolutely perfect the way it comes from the factory and would not change a thing. However if the shooter were to add an optic the FORM stock would make a nice addition with the adjustable wood stock. Great video by the way!!
You fell right into Marlin’s success good for you guys!
Thank you!!
Brian, I put the Ranger Point Modular butt stock on my Remlin 336Y and it was a perfect fit no gaps at all. Was a little tight getting on but no persuading needed. Enjoy your videos.
I like the wood stocks ! Looks awesome!!
Great job Brian!! I modified my new Ruger Marlin with the ranger point parts and have had no major issues. I sent you pics on your Instagram account!!
Awesome, thanks! Sorry if I haven't seen them yet. I get a ton of messages in my "Requests" folder and it takes a while to go through them all. Glad they've worked out for you!
If you can find a Remington made SBL it looks and shoots and is the same quality as this Ruger made one here!! Don’t pay twice the price because of the JM and Ruger fans!! Remington does and always has made excellent firearms!! Sure this Ruger made Marlin is nice, but so aren’t the Remington made one’s as well!! I own a Remington 1895 CBA 45-70 18.5” octagonal barrel, 6+1, dark walnut buttstock and forearm, semi-buckhorn and gold bead front sights. This 1895 will handle +P whatever you want to use for ammo!! Just a wonderfully made lever gun!!
Bullseye accurate right out the box, lever action smooth, just right!! The trigger pull is really nice too around 4lbs. 10 oz. It is a 2016 model.
Old school Remingtons are legit, anything Freedom Group made is doo doo.
I have an old school 1968 Remington 700 BDL 30-06 so I understand. My 2016 Remington made ( freedom group ) 1895 CBA 45-70 is an excellent firearm. Fit, finish, function. Things are what they are. Mine is great. Before 2016 they were using the old J.M.
parts left over. After this Remington re- engineered all parts to be run on brand new CNC machines. Very close tolerances. Some shooters don’t know that the new Ruger’s have had problems with the bolt bottoming out onto the hammer when racking the lever. While not prohibiting function, not a good thing. Also some have found many sharp edges on the Ruger made Marlin’s. The fluted bolts is the only thing that turns me off to the Ruger made Marlin’s. Like I said my 1895 CBA is a beautifully made firearm. It was bullseye accurate out of the box.
It is not the same quality. I have all of them...Ruger marlin is in a league all it's own 😂
@@TheHitman- I understand you really like Ruger, that is fine. I also understand that there was so much media out there that was negative toward Remington made Marlin’s. The REM- Lin thing should have never been. The Remlins did not exist because these were J.M. Parts assembled by J.M. Workers. Remington did not start producing their own until 2016. There is an article on these are Remington made Marlin 1895’s in the 2016 issue of a rifle magazine and the review was very favorable. One thing about the Remington Marlins is the lighter trigger pull weight. 4 lbs. 5 oz. The Remington made one’s have a trigger pull much heavier. I believe the 30-30 Ruger made Marlins have a real heavy trigger pull. Around 7 lbs or more. Anyway Remington price $630 vs. Ruger price 2 or 3 years later, double the cost? Ridiculous.
great video. off subject question. who makes your gun racks in the back? thanks!
Another great video. Do you know if they make the full Midwest industries hand guard for marlin 1894 dark series?
Enjoyed-thanks! Looking forward to your accuracy tests!
Will the Midwest industries extended hand guard in this video also fit on the trapper model 1895?
Yes, the new models will. If you have one of the first MI handguards it won’t fit because of the Trapper front sight placement. They adjusted now and it’s good to go 👍
Very nice, I have the RPP stock absolutely love it 👍
What thread adapter would you recommend to mate it to 5/8x24?
Thanks now I own a sbl 4570.
I wish there were more options for a straight stock. I love my Marlin and Henry but I can’t find a straight stock conversion for my Henry model x.
Check with Buffalo Diller on IG. He converted the Chisel to a straight grip 👍😎
We'll be working on straight stock versions for Marlin and Henry next.
I'd really like to see a review on a pedersoli boarbuster mkII and a comparison between it and the new marlin 1895 sbl
Great video. Thank you for doing all this leg work for those of us looking into these kinds of options!
Thank you very much, exactly what i want to know
Could you possibly make a new vid on the Midwest industry hand guard they have these tension blocks and I’m not seeing them in your vid and they don’t make a vid and the instructions are not good I have the Henery but I’m sure they are about the same just can’t find anything on this
Great information! Thank you for putting all this in one video.
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching!
I hope you had a fantastic time at Shot Show!
By chance did you check out Big Horn Armory's Tactical Model 98 while you were there?
Really happy to see Ranger Point parts fit as intended. I'm pretty sure RPP added the stainless version of the Comet Muzzle Brake just to meet the demand for the new SBL.
Yes new Comet Brake is specific for this rifle. This new 1895 SBL has a barrel with a smaller OD (.746" vs .800") than previous models.
Hello, do you know if they have also put the GBL version in the pipeline ????
Magpul elg does it fit the new Ruger marlins?
what kind of tip did you use to take the factory screws out of the rail?
Would love to see those handguards on the new trapper!
Check my IG feed. I’ve got a cut down SBL with that setup. Also have a 1894 CST with them.
Really like what you have been doing with the SBL. I like to see that people appreciate what we have been doing and trying to get it right is not always fast.
Which stock do you like better? The Chisel or RPP? Also, great video! Truly appreciate the content!
Great stuff mate
Do these all fit on the 1895 Trapper?
The first Form stock would be killer if it was the same color as the grey laminate...
I can’t seem to get the Midwest hand guard on. It seems like the nubs don’t match up with the receiver. Do you have to shave them down? Your other videos make it seem like it just slides in. But mine won’t go in to save my life lol
Is there any news on if/when there will be a 30-30 of this rifle?
Would a factory Marlin Stock fit on a Henry 45-70 Steel Gate ? Asking for a friend..
Is the ghost ring threaded for apertures? If not, does it look like the ghost ring stem can be replaced?
Love your whole series on levers. These stocks are very interesting, but will they work (do they have available) for us LEFTIES? I love lever guns (have four) because us left-eye dominant shooters (I shoot CAS) can use them easily.
What fits the Marlin Trapper model w/16.5” barrel
Everything shown here 👍
Hi, would be nice if we could buy just a barreled action!
They would be cool for sure
What sighting system would you use for a 357 lever action?
Hi I have the trapper model and I'm trying to put a pic rail on top. I got the 10" rail, but there's a dovetail on top and it doesn't want to come out. Any tips?
I thought about picking one of these up, but with something as rare as this, I'd feel kind of bad replacing any furniture on it
Yeah, I'm torn myself. It may stay original after I do all of this content with it.
@@buildhuntxplore Just buy another one. Keep one as is, and mod the other. The best of both worlds.
Do you know if marl8n 1895 furniture will fit an 1894?......I have an 1894 sbl that I want to put 1895 dark series furniture onto ? Do you know if this will work?
How come no link to the UK made but stock?
I didn't link to any of it because of the policies here. It's a Form Rifle Stock. Great stuff!!
Question Ive got a Marlin stainless 1894 in 44 mag, would love to send it to somebody who could turn it into a short barrel tactical rifle with synthetic stock and picatinny rail on top, who would you recommend
Louthan Gunworks
Solid content, dude! Got a couple buddies to subscribe as well.
Keep at it 👌
can you make one about Hatsan Escort 12ga Fieldhunter??😁👍
👍 Will the safety delete, RPP tang screw and lever screw work? Looking forward to the .500 videos! 😎
Keep as is! Buy a marlin 336 if you wanna mod
It’s staying as is 👍
I love the idea! A bit slow off a video tho
Thanks! Lots to cover and I generally get told I talk too fast 🤣
Good stuff Bri!!
Thanks!!
@@buildhuntxplore The tube took my channel down. So I moved to Rumble.
I heard that this gun will chamber 38, 357, and 40-70. Is that true?
Lever guns are narrow. Why do we have all these big round forends?
Our forearm is actually almost the exact same dimensions as the wooden forearm to keep things slender and balanced.
Checked prices for the Bradley cheek rest and it’s pretty expensive, any other options like that out there?
Triad Tactical Stock Pack. Gives check rise and ammo storage 👍
@@buildhuntxplorethank you for pointing me in their direction.
Hi I’m in Australia, how can I buy a black stock kit? And from where? Thanks
Check with Form Rifle Stocks if you're wanting wood. Welcome & thanks for the support!
i suspect if you file the tennons on the Chisel down just a tinsy it it would fit. I hope it fits >:(
It was one of a run of 30 that were sized slightly off. The new ones are good to go 👍
@@buildhuntxplore thanks for following up man, I’m excited to hear it. The chisel stocks are sick!
But now, because of you, I’m gonna be $1800 poorer after I buy one of these damn things. 🤬
@@buildhuntxplore Hello, I hope you are doing well. I put my chisel stock on my new Marlin/Ruger 1895 and the stock has a little bit of play once you slide it on without putting the takedown screw back in and you really have to tighten the screw down to take all the play out. Did you experience this? Please let me know, I would really appreciate it!
If I win the lottery I'll be able to afford one of these rifles
Has anyone with either of these aftermarket stocks had them out in the cold? Does either stock have grip panels or are both solid milled aluminum? Thanks in advance.
You can only get a sbl is on the black market ruger is making a killing on them right now
I just want this rifle so bad. but yeah........ There is non out there to buy :( /Europe
7:30 Can you not file it down?
Some of us like to put scopes on our lever guns. Unfortunately, that usually means removing the rear sight on this gun if you want the scope as low as possible. That Midwest rear looks huge and is even less likely to get low rings to fit without the scope tube hitting the sight. Something I would really like to put on my 1895SBL is QD rings combined with a flip up rear so I could use both irons and a low scope. Alas, the flip up rear does not exist. Something Midwest or someone with some engineering knowhow should come out with some day. A guy can dream, can't he.
with those aluminum m-lok stocks, do they require a tax stamp? I was confused on this upgrade. thanks for all the great videos and info!
It doesn’t want to go on cause the rifle isn’t an AR and wants it’s original wood!
"a wide variety of tolerances" wtf XD
Tooling over 50+ years varies, sharpness varies, and workers vary. Things will not always the exactly the same
@@buildhuntxplore None of which is "tolerances." The tolerances are prescribed by the engineering package/drawings. Correct, things "will not always exactly the same" [sic] and that's why we build in *tolerances," so there can be some variation over time due to a multitude of variables, and parts will still fit together.
WHY!
Why what?
Man, don't ruin a masterpiece
Ruger misses the whole point of hunters and lever gun enthusiasts. They want a well made lever gun that is tough, runs and runs, and one that functions well and does what they want it to do. Remington made excellent Marlin lever guns. People remark about the checkering not being quite as good on the Remington made Marlin? This may be true but anyone who wants to pay over $2,000 for a lever gun should expect that kind of time and workmanship put into that firearm because they are surely paying up the YingYang for it!! The only Remington Marlins that were not so good between 2010 and 2015 were all made using former J.M. Marlin workers and J.M. Marlin lever gun parts only. When Remington started making everything themselves in 2016 Marlin lever guns were never so good as this, and at a price your average Joe could afford!!
When are you actually going to shoot it? 2 months for a video is too long..
I work and travel a lot for a living, I have a 2 year old son and a wife to spend time with, and I’m trying to get started building my house. I’m sorry my real life schedule doesn’t fit your timeline.
@@buildhuntxplore I wasn't being an ass man.. you just had me with anticipation.. you had said you'll be taking it out to shoot the first time.. was just looking forward to it is all.. sorry if you took that wrong.
Sorry, I’ve got some guy being a jerk and I was a little on edge. I apologize. Work has been nuts. I am really hoping to take it out later next week and get started with that series of shooting. Hopefully the weather and work hold out, lol.
