Yaesu VX-6 no squelch control solution and disassembly instruction

How to take apart your Yaesu VX-6 handheld ham radio, troubleshoot a "no squelch control problem", and the solution to fix the problem (assuming your radio has no other issues affecting the squelch control.
Yaesu will sell you a replacement CF2002 ceramic filter. In the United States, as of this writing, they're 0.61 cents each and ship from California. I'm unsure of a source or availability in other countries.
The phone number to contact the Yaesu parts dept in the U.S. is 714-827-7600, then press #4 for the parts dept. The schematic for the VX-6 shows the label for this filter as CF2002. However, Yaesu will need the VXSTD part number, which is H3900572A, which is a change from the number found in the technical supplement for this radio, which is H3900531.
