Strong grading numbers for sure. I think the thing to watch over the next 3-5 years is the price gap/premium between 10s and 9s, especially from the 80s into the early 2000s. When there is such a wide price gap between 10s and 9s from these eras (a 9 being less than 25% or so of 10, for example) only two things can happen: 1) Inflated prices of 10s fall, as people start to realize they can't tell the difference between 9s and 10s, or 2) 9s get the respect they deserve and their prices start creeping up.

I still have 14 full books of baseball, hockey, football and basketball from the 70s to the 90s which was my childhood collection! That would be some serious grading.....

I sent off 29 cards at the Jan deal, they were received the 24th. Completed in 6 business days and I’ll have them at my door this upcoming Tuesday the 6th! Also hit 23/29 10’s so not a bad day in the hobby. 👍🏽💯

I'm 100% CG based off of price and time. I pay $10.80 per card. When you submit in bulk, every dollar counts

Yep, absolutely right. Just like with the gold rush in the 1800's, the best business is to be in the one selling the supplies (or doing the grading now), than in the mining / card prospecting game.

Despite the fall in card prices from the Covid boom, grading seems to march on with great numbers.

Amazing how much of this demand is Pokeman cards. I just don’t understand it.

@@benjaminlyng8269 Baseball and hockey are the only affordable rips of the 4 major sports. Hockey has always been a regional/niche sport and baseball has been declining in popularity among youth for 2 generations while TCG and Pokemon have exploded. Not really all that surprising if you look at it that way.

What are your thoughts on CGC? I am liking the slab and labels. I'm submitting for my PC, that's why I'm leaning that way.

When u have this much grading, anything less than a 10 will not be worth anything unless its a very rare card

The demand for TCG and sports cards won't outstrip the supply until at which point the US FED stops selling off their bond and mortgage holdings and starts buying again. Unfortunately, for the hobby (mostly investors), this could be at least a year or more from now. The bottom line is this, when liquidity is tightening, when there is less money in the system, when the supply of money is dropping, there is less cash around to flow into things like collectables. Soon, the boom in card grading will start to level off and then decline, as graded card selling prices fall. The incentive to pay for grading will dry up in more and more corners of this hobby. In addition, while you get the raw numbers for total cards being graded, I am willing to bet that the average price being paid (ASP) to grade those cards is coming down fast. So while unit sales are strong, it's more hamburger and less steak. Lobster left the building long ago....

What created the hobby boom was wall street and investment groups buying cards. They are making enough off money market and savings accounts to think about flipping cards in 2024.
