  • Since retiring from professional chess after ranking for twenty years as the world’s top player, Kasparov, author of How Life Imitates Chess, has led the pro-democracy movement in Russia-which included running for president in 2008-and since 2012 he has been chairman of the Human Rights Foundation. His new book is an urgent call to action in which he challenges the free world to recognize Putin as not just a repressive leader in Russia, but as a threat to global stability, one that can only be contained by a wide range of economic and diplomatic measures from abroad.

"I guarantee you Russia and Putin's activities will be on the frontpage on a daily basis [...]. Vladimir Putin was our problem, but he will become the problem for former Soviet union (neighboring countries), and eventually for everybody, because he's a dictator with a nuclear arsenal".

He always said "just listen to what Putin says" or "just look at his record". Americans were preoccupied with the war on terror to see the real threat lying ahead of them.

Why can’t Kasparov be president of Russia? The Western alliance would automatically have more respect for Russia, something Putin failed to do.
If I understand Kasparov’s speech correctly, winter is here now.

Amusing read. Kasparov lives in a whole new dimension. He portrays the Yeltsin years as such a wonderful and harmonious time for Russia and dismisses the starvation and impoverishment of the country as "mistakes." This includes Yeltsin nearly punging Russia into civil war 30 years ago and the first Chechen War.
Kasparov also argues that the U.S/NATO should invade North Korea, Iran, Cuba, and Venezuela as per their "human rights" credentials as they did Serbia, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya, and calling Obama weak for not going all the way in Syria. Kasparov then drops short of calling for a simultaneous NATO attack Russia and China. Personally, I think Kasparov is one of the most deranged liberals out there.

The Iraq war went on and on long after Saddam was deposed. What was the point of that? It had nothing to do with deposing a dictator. Further Saddam offered to surrender even before the invasion. The USA turned him down. The war was not about deposing a dictator.
