- the short answer to the question in my thumbnail is: yes.
notion is very much both useful and pretty -- in fact, as useful and as pretty as you'd like it to be. Of course, if you find that you're more productive when you're looking at something you think is pretty (be it filled with photos, music playlists, ghibli/anime themed, plant themed, etc) or even just a simple set-up -- how you want to customize notion is entirely up to you!
I ended up cutting out the portion of me talking about this in the video (otherwise this vid would be 18 min long oof) but TLDR my opinion on this is productivity should NEVER be difficult to maintain. For me personally, I shy away from overwhelmingly aEsThEtIc (to me) templates because then I get too caught up in maintaining it, making it look better, etc; instead of spending time on what's important -- getting what's ON my notion done. Naturally if you enjoy the process, do it! :)
But I find that a lot of college students who use notion especially often drop it because it's just too much to handle -- and I wanted to make this video to demonstrate that if you strip notion down to its bare bones and use it for what you need, and THEN slowly build from there, your life will truly be more organized! I think that's the best way to use any productivity app, esp one so powerful and with the potential to be very pretty :)
I use notion for my internship companies (one of them runs entirely on notion and nothing else) and so I think notion should definitely not simply be thought of as a "pretty" app -- it's immensely powerful! Sorry I didn't go into some of the details in this video -- again, i'm not sponsored by notion and so I made this video entirely because I wanted to set up my own notion and thought i'd bring you guys along :) if you guys would like a more in-depth tutorial or just me talking about notion, let me know!
p.s. the color grading on this video is BAD I'm so sorry -- my hard drive perished (i'm getting an SSD, don't worry) before I could change the color so now the intro is WAYY too pinkish/purplish and the tour itself is a tiny bit grey ;-; I will do better I promise

sis I was so overwhelmed by Notion the first time I tried it out 😭am now trying it again and doing a VERY minimal system and it seems to work much better this way

I was v overwhelmed when I first started notion but now it’s my default organizer and digital note taking platform. The toggle tool is awesome for active recall and essay planning. You get the gist. I enjoyed watching this chaotic vlog-esque get my life together/help me notion video

I always use my Notion for organization and such, but I also like to relax through decorating it to make it all pretty and look at cute helpful templates and things, so it’s definitely a nice balance

I've been debating using notion for law school but I haven't tried it yet because it is very intimidating. Seeing you struggle with this is honestly so helpful. I don't think I'm going to use it for now, but it was much easier to decide that after seeing it stripped down to the basics instead of getting overwhelmed by the pretty aesthetic stuff
You don't have to make it pretty and use all the options. You can just use the basics and make it useful because it really is a useful organisation tool.
I started to use it recently because I was sick of my planners that I never finish and my life was nit organised at all. Found notion, used templates that other people made, added a few pretty pictures just because lmao and that's it.
Just discovered your channel and I already love it! I like that you don't do the typical girly stuff but make content about actual useful things for young adults :) Also of your future video ideas sound very interesting! Can't wait to see more :)
never been this early! Thank you for being honest. I've been using Notion for about a year now. I found that it was easiest to use just for uni notes, rather than manage my entire life on it. I enjoy writing things down so I write to-do lists physically still. Everything else uni related goes onto Notion. I find it so customisable and it rlly helps my brain because I'm the type to categorise everything so the pages in pages really help.
However, I do agree some features are a learning curve/need to be in existence. It's all about balance and what works best for your needs!

Fan fact that nobody ask for: I spend 4h trying to work notion and it was worth it
Hmm I feel like I’m personally not categorized upfront enough for notion. For example, i usually put things in a outline list format and tend to write a lot of notes and when that gets too long is when I separate stuff into categories or I just keep drilling down in the outline format. I don’t exactly know all the categories before I start.
This was very interesting cuz I keep being like hmm should I use notion but I think if I do, I’ll mainly use it for its spreadsheet properties and not other stuff.

yeee i was inspired recently too by another video -- hopefully notion helps us out
notion is a life saver for me, but i dont go for the fancy stuff, you can make it be a pretty powerfull tool with the bare minimun there, i put my notes, my calender, my school work and all my side projects neatly with all the lists and functions, just match here and there with the icon and colors but it really dont need to much to work just fine, if you go to the minimalist aesthetic you cut all the unecessary jizz about this program and everything works out.

Anyway, I mainly use notion for everything college-related, including note-taking, gpa calculator, classes I'm taking & planning to take, syllabi for my classes, and premed information such as average stats for med schools I plan to apply to, etc. I'm also learning Spanish so I have a Spanish vocab page that includes all the new words and phrases I learn. My "club homepage" holds all the information for my club and I'm getting all my team members to join notion so we can assign tasks to each other. Finally, my "personal" page just has my thoughts, ideas, favorite books, bucket list, etc.
