Although my watercolor journey has just started, I stumbled upon your videos and some of Linsey’s (thefrugalcrafter) pastel videos making me fall in love with the medium. How pastels look with watercolor and by themselves is just stunning. Got a really good deal on the Faber Castell goldfaber 72 half stick soft pastels along with Mungyo Gallery 36 set of semi hard pastels. I’m excited to work with them.
Hi Susan Unison is really good if u r considering it for beginners perhaps they are the best if we use them correctly under guidance However my personal interest gets me onto sennelier as my choice They are the nicest shade, line and rubs easily against the surface Well it's just my opinion though😋 It was a nice video Susan Loved it Keep posting more 🥰 Have a great day ahead Love from India ❤️
I have recently become interested in using pastels again after not using them for many years. I ordered sample sticks from Jackson’s, including three Unison. I tried them all, but when I picked up the Unisons, I almost fell over. It was like buttah, as people say. Absolutely gorgeous, AND I could use water to extend it to get a different look that I wanted. I decided that it was worth saving up for a set similar to yours. It is far from cheap, but I think it’ll be worth the extra effort to be able to afford. I’d rather have the quality to begin with, than buy something cheap and regret it.
vegasrenie oh yes!! It is so true that with pastels quality makes all the difference! I started with a cheap set of pastels and almost gave up. I couldn’t afford the expensive brands ...But I’m so glad I hung in there because “the good stuff“ is worth it. I know it’s pricey, but I really do recommend a unison 120 half stick stick set. I can create almost any painting from it because there is enough color variety, value differences and chroma differences for multiple options. Have fun and enjoy this artistic journey.
Wow, what a lucky buy. How did you find used Unison pastels that look so new. I can't find anything decent on ebay and they all want $20 to ship it too, or more.
I don't know...recommending a 300€ set to a beginner that doesn't know what they are doing or if they are going to love the medium doesn't seem like a good choice.
You’re right that it wouldn’t be great for an absolute beginner… But once someone knows they are liking the medium I’d say it’s a good set. Thanks for your thoughts.
Wow, that is so much more expensive than here. I know there are other manufactures that can be purchased in Australia for less money. I’ll have to try to research that.
Yes, I understand. I guess I should have said for the serious beginner. The reason I believe that is because there are so many values and colors you don't really need to buy other sets for a looooong time. :)

I went with Sennelier as well. I love their products. I am looking at any additional products to order being pan pastels, like white and black pans.
This set is always my first choice to recommend to people. It has everything you need color and value wise at a decent price.
great tips! Thank you. I'm a flower artist so this is a great combo of colors
holy moly this is your beginner set. Shut the front door. THE PRICE are you insane seriously.
Thank you so much. I'm going to purchase this set! Very interested in learning about choosing colors.
You are so welcome!
I bought a Unison landscape set but this one looks very nice! I hope you create more videos and paintings with this set soon!

An artist in a pastel art group on FB mentioned they were selling them. I was very fortunate to respond first! Yay!
@@monetcafe Yes, you were very blessed/lucky to get in on that. I love Unison and Richeson, they are pretty much the same to me.
Ma dream 😮
🙂 🙂 🙂 ❤, @rosagiannatempo314
$650 in Australia!
Yep, it's horrible. But so hard to resist.
I have this set and while it's great, I feel it's slightly smaller than a half stick.
I agree with you.... the Sennelier Half sticks are definitely larger :)
Where can you get this set? I can't seem to find it.

$600 Aus for that set and that's your beginners set?

Even more in NZ!!
I just commented the same thing! Most certainly not CHEAP!!
Can get senniliers in a 120 half stick set for $300.
Robyn White gosh.... sorry they are so expensive in Australia... wow!
with a price tag of £289.68 i would think many beginners would be scared off !!

These pastels are for professional use they are far too expensive for beginners, unless youre filthy rich.
Are you kidding me...over 200$. This is not for apprentice colorists, thank you very much!
This! Can you please suggest a more affordable option?
