- It's an uncommon and heartwarming occasion for me to get mail from a viewer. And this package was SO lovely and thoughtful I just had to share.

That was so kind of Dawn! I really enjoyed some of your insights about the catalog, and it's so lovely of Dawn to send a doll for the kiddo! The charms and gears are awesome too! How very thoughtful of her to share with you, and then you to share with us.
Yeah, it was such a nice and unexpected gift. I was excited just to get a catalog! While the video was premiering, the little one was watching (rare) and when the doll came on screen, she ran to get her and bring her dolly over to the couch :)
Can’t wait to see the jewelry you make! I am thinking about making some jewelry for my dolls too.
A few days ago I made some jewelry for them but it was all Pride jewelry for an upcoming photo shoot, so I haven't made any with the charms from Dawn...yet.

Aw, that's adorable that you wanted "F1231". It thoroughly confused me, but apparently the website had the "traditional" TM numbers during this era and these other numbers were in the catalog only. So interesting.
What a kind subscriber to send you some goodies. Those ILY dolls are very sweet. I don’t have one but I really like them. Your daughter will be so happy to have a matching doll to one of her Moms. 💕
YES, it was so kind! Grace's is a display doll (we recently got a smallish glass case to hold 10 or so of her non-AG, fashion sized dolls) so it's nice that our daughter can *play* with this one and the other will remain something pretty Grace can appreciate.

what a sweet gift! i’m pretty sure i had that catalogue as a kid. i think it was one of the last few i got before they stopped sending them out in canada. as for the truly me thing an employee told me this once but it was like 10 years ago so my memory might not be perfect lol, but from what i remember truly me dolls in the catalogue went by their item number NOT the number of what doll they were. (they were still numbered normally everywhere else) i think the employee said it was to make stuff easier for the ag employees if you were to order over phone or call a store to ask if they had a certain doll in stock.
Such a fun bit of AG trivia for me to stumble upon. Thanks for filling in some blanks!

I'd go with Kit's PJs for sure. AG using green is such a rare treat, and they look comfy.
OMG The gears are cute I can see you making some amazing Jewelry with them. It does seem like the focus is on the big ticket items. We have Samantha's pink coat but not the hat. Samantha has so many coats. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching - I'm jealous you have that pink coat. It is GORGEOUS :) And thanks for the validation about that change in the catalogs. It was so cool to see some of the smaller accessories get such large pictures and prominence in the older catalog.
Good luck with finding Beforever Samantha’s pink duster/coat. It is my number one item that I am so mad I did not buy at the time it was released. I was just starting to collect though and didn’t realize I needed to buy it. It hardly comes up for resale and when it does it is well over $100+. They only made it for a short time so there are not many of them out there either. Maybe someday I will manage to get it but for now I just admire it from afar!!

@@agtakesover I am enjoying my old catalogs! Turns out they go back to 2011. :) Some years have a bunch and other years very few. I only have one from 2011 and one from 2015. They're so cool to look at. :)

I loved this video (Im doing a littlr binge to keep up)... Grace's comment about "mom guilt" of keeping the doll if she didn't have it but still admitting she'd probably take it! Ha I feel that when I get a milkshake when I don't have my daughter. It's so good... but.... Ha
And now I'm obsessed about that Samantha Travel Set in that catalog!!!
Ahh, the mom guilt. We must cast it away, for we give so very much of ourselves to our children, so freely and so often. ;-)
Oh, my word!! Some of those catalogs were so Anoying!! We weren't collecting during that time frame, but when I went back to look through our catalogs, I was trying to figure out who was who in the Truly Me line, and I'm like the product code number isn't the same as the number of the doll...What?!?!? I've seen other number/letter combinations too.
But wait...Samantha had a Gazebo?!?!? 😮 Also didn’t realize they had done BeForever versions of her travel coat and luggage. (not only were we mostly not collecting, we also lost interest in the historical collection after the BeForever rebrand)
Apparently during that time, the numbers were still the "traditional" TM numbers we all know on the website, just not in the catalogs. That makes it even weirder to me.
And yes, I've seen that gazebo at a collector's house (you might be able to catch a glimpse of it if you watch one of my older videos about buying stuff from a hoarder - search "hoarder" on my channel). It's a really cool item.
@agtakesover I believe I've seen dolls on eBay that have catalog matching numbers on the doll box, which makes it even more confusing to figure out which doll it is if specifically looking for a certain doll. Don't quote me on this, but I think during that time the doll box lids didn't even have the numbers on them...sort of the way the historical or girl of the year didn't used to have a character name or picture on the lid.
Maybe I got Lea’s meet dress and bag for myself, but I’m petite and can still fit in girls’ XL. It would be nice to see more adult sizing. I appreciate the historical costumes coming out.
That's fun. I don't think I'd ever wear her meet dress even if it were in my size, but her celebration dress...now that I could pull off.
I just got a surprise when I was looking through my American girl doll clothes. I was wanting a tee shirt from the Columbus store couldn’t find one anywhere then I found one in my collection.
Aw, yay! I just bought a lot of clothes from someone and got t-shirts from both Chicago and NYC :)
Oh and I would get Julie or Rebecca’s pyjamas. 💕
Julie's look more comfy, but Rebecca's would feel more special, I think.
When I first started collecting, I was so confused because the collectors who’d been collecting for awhile called the folks by the numbers we use now, 22,47, etc. I only saw the catalog numbers and I was so confused.
Someone else commented that the catalog numbers were so nostalgic because their wish list wasn't like "I want TM28" but instead, "I want F1231!!" and for some reason that's just adorable!
Well times change, people's perspectives change also. I remember being told by an AG store employee that The Addy face mold was the least popular face mole at that time of Leah release. Interesting isn't it? Buyer population changes also along with perspectives and appreciation. Its all subjective anyway, you may love something and want to see more of, and I say um...... not for me. So retail wise maybe those dolls that did not have as much page layouts because they might have been the ones least popular at that time. My GD's were into AG at that time of Leah's release and I bought one, but my GD's did not like her so much so we went Just Like You (or what ever they were called then) for their birthdays. I also remember differences in the number identification of the dolls so later on when I started to follow for me, I got confused myself. Number 24? Which one is that? Anyway just my experience. I want Maryellen's PJ's for me!
it's an age-old question - to what extent do consumers drive the marketing and product decisions of a company and to what extent is it the other way around? Is the Addy mold not popular and that's why AG makes so few dolls in that mold or do they not focus on Addy's mold enough in their products and marketing and that's why she's less popular? Everyone can speculate but I don't think we know for sure.
I agree about the catalog, not as much detail now. They’re really pushing everyone to go look online, which is not what we want kids to be doing. Much more fun to circle the items in a real catalog like we used to do! 😊
On the one hand, I get it. Environmentally and economically it probably makes more sense to drive traffic to the websites. But magazines and catalogs were such a cool part of my childhood and it makes me a bit sad that kids don't experience that in the same way. Grace requests the AG catalogs online almost daily until we get one, so even though they're skimpy and infrequent, we at least have all of them from the past few years.
The catalog numbers were only in the catalog online they had the regular truly me numbers ❤

What catalogues now? 😂 They are so few and far between, and I have to get them in store. Ironic since most of the stores have closed. I get my rewards codes mailed to me, but don’t remember the last time I got a catalogue.
Dude. They really said, "No one will notice if we just only give out ten catalogs per year...total." Grace gets to a point where she starts requesting them online every day until they finally send one. Ridiculous.
