    It's honestly a little hilarious to me that the Rockets are clearly building around Sengun now and yet Jalen Green still plays like he's the franchise player still and it's clearly affected how the team has played this season.

      How does jalen play like he’s the franchise player? Lmao he’s been playing more off the ball this year and the rockets offense has mostly been vanvleet and sengun pick and roll. Even udoka said he wants jalen to be more aggressive on the offensive end

    • @MichaelJordann23
      @MichaelJordann23 9 місяців тому +13

      Jalen doesn’t get the ball as much. He’s only hurting the rockets bc of his lack of shooting. He’s been missing wide open 3s and turning the ball over

    • @cyrillesu
      @cyrillesu 9 місяців тому +23

      @@MichaelJordann23 his shot selection is ass. His 3P% isn't even that terrible (33.1 which is still around his career average) but his 2s have progressively gotten worse (50% his rookie season to 44% this year) which is why he's shooting under 40% this season. For a guy who's supposed to be a "bucket", he's legitimately terrible at doing that.

    The future of the Rockets is Sengun. If the Rockets think he can be a Jokic type player then you need high iq players who can cut and move off the ball. You can see that vision with Fred, Smith, and to a lesser extent Brooks. Jalen Green as of now doesn’t fit that mold and so the fit has gotten awkward and with potential contact extensions looming you do wonder about Green’s future in Houston. I also think drafting Thompson and Whitmore make him more expendable than he previously was due to their upside and contract control.

    Two years of Stephen Silas has really done Jalen Green a lot of harm; just allowing him way too many touches and to chuck up shots has developed some really bad habits that you can see he’s fighting constantly. He looks uncertain and like he’s overthinking things a lot. I think he can become workable with more practice, but his ceiling seems more like sparkplug 6th man. What worries me the most is that he hasn’t developed enough strength to reliably finish through contact. 3rd year is when you see that strength typically start to develop.

    • @michaelahurt
      @michaelahurt 9 місяців тому +3

      To be fair that was always the concern. Silas certainly didn't help because he enabled Green, but there's a reason he was drawing Zach LaVine comparisons. (And it wasn't meant as a compliment.)
      Even when he was drafted, I understood why Houston took the shot -- if he could hone his talent he's basically a bigger and more athletic Donovan Mitchell -- but he had J.R. Smith written all over him so I always saw his most likely outcome as a sparkplug sixth man on a good team.

      I don't blame Silas. I blame myself if I was Green....not using the opportunity wisely. He's so lucky actually. Other players like Remy Martin, Kihei Clark, and Ron Harper Jr didn't get such opportunities but I think all 3 are better players than him.

    As a rockets fan sengun needs to be surrounded by 3 and D players like the nuggets with jokic and jalen doesn’t exactly meet that criteria since he isn’t a great shooter or defender. He was supposed to be what Murray is to jokic but he’s too inefficient for that. Sengun needs a co star next to him and I don’t think jalen will ever be that guy. I think it would be better for us trading him and look to acquire a star to pair with sengun

But yall need to understand he's playing with no names and on a trash franchise and him chucking up shots is because of shitty coaching giving him the green light, and to people saying he's not developing quickly need to check them selves and realize Klay Thompson didn't average 20 points till his 4 year, and that was on a terrible warriors team. I'm not saying he cant develop and become a better player cause he needs to for sure, but for his situation he doing pretty good.

    as a Rockets fan, Sengun is the future. Honestly out of all of our young pieces, Jalen might be the least of value at this point. Sengun is an allstar, Jabari is averaging the same box stats on wayyyy better shooting, he needs more shots. Amen hasn't played much due to injury but shows potential to be the PG of the future. Whitmore has shined in his limited minutes. Tari Eason has been the ultimate hustleman off the bench and has shown serious development. I hope im wrong about Green but if there was one young player I have to get rid of, I would pick him unfortunately.

    all the interviews ive ever seen with him, he clearly has a very high opinion of himself. calling himself a "bucket" and acting like he's a generational talent. and his physical tools are really good, but you can't tell me that he cares or works hard because if he did, we would see some signs of improvement by year 3. the fact that he's still the same guy right now in the middle of year 3 that he was when he walked in the building, that's a really bad sign. as a heat fan, i watched tyler herro have some similar issues early in his career, inconsistency and lack of ability to get to the rim or get to his spots in the mid range, but by year 3, he had added muscle and worked on his game and he won 6th man of the year after showing very noticeable improvement. im just not seeing that with Jalen unfortunately, and he has way more potential than tyler ever did. i think he just lacks actual passion for the game, he just wants to get his numbers and play YMCA style pickup ball.

    If you REALLY watch the highlights…and pay CLOSE attention to the DEFENSE, you can see that the league defense is so lazy. NO ONE REALLY PLAYS defense. Shai, Chet…etc look like they are moving in molasses ..and the defense is not even trying for real. These dudes are slow and unathletic. They score because there is absolutely NO DEFENSE really being played. The effort on that end is terrible. Watch it closely. Shai is not that good. He is just tall and there is no defense. THIS is why all of these ‘30 ppg’ players are not SUPERSTARS to the majority of the world, like they would have been in any other era because scoring 30 was damn near impossible because of REAL defense. These guys are not having any real resistance..and the fans know it. If they were truly as great as the numbers say….Jordan would have been eclipsed in stardom, long ago..and the fan base would be so large and voracious that it would be close to NFL level..but it is not, because we all can tell that players like Halliburton look like hurky jerky tall guys shooting around outside.

      He would have done worse in the 2000's where they were more defensive oriented. You put like a Ron Artest or a Gary Payton on him and he would struggle more. Nowadays, players play more fast paced and stay away from the ball so they can run the court more freely and jack up more shots which is why it's more high scoring.

    I like Gilbert's arena show but they be trying to push Jalen green like he's the next big thing 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. They said New York Knicks need a star like him😂😂😂😂😂😂 so they going to trade of proven All Star bucket getter for Bronson for Jalen green because he's more marketable? Stfu Gil

    LOL even if this is true about Jalen Green's game, why would you trade him at his worst value? Someone will get him at a bargain. Give him a year to develop with a new coach and veterans on the court. If anything, we will get a deal on his next contract. Not all players develop at the same rate.

    He’s Zach Lavine’ish. Really talented player but his feel for the game is off. Even when they play well, even tho Jalen hasn’t in awhile, it’s never within the flow of the game.

    Ngl it's funny because people aren't seeing the vision. The nuggets are the template for the rockets to follow. Let me break it down--> The nuggets had almost everything figured out until Jamal Murray solidified his role in 2020. That closer who comes up clutch when the nuggets need it. But it took him like 6( Drafted in 2014) to get there. Murray and Jalen had similar knocks on them:
    "Inconsistent, not a real PG, etc".
    Nuggets/ Rockets:
    Jokic/ Sengun (All star/All Nba center)
    MPJ/JSJ (Star PF)
    KCP/Vanvleet ( lockdown 1/2)
    Gordon/ Dillon Brooks ( defensive 3/4)
    Fill in their bench pieces
    Nuggets then have Murray playing offball and onball when needed. Jalen can take that role if he embraces it more consistently. He built up some bad habits under Silas and you can't expect him to just shed those habits in one season. Rockets should offer him a 4 year like 100 mill contract (or whatever the lowscale extension will be with the new salary cap)-- but NOT anything like 160 mill. He needs to prove himself, just like Murray had to.

    I would only contend with the defense from Green. He's been much improved on defense, but still has a way to go.
    Given how young he is and the flashes he's shown, I'm still in on him. I will agree that right now, he isn't looking great.

    • @bigradwolf5001

      He's got low basketball IQ. When an opponent takes a 3, he does not have intelligence to know bounce of ball will be low. He keeps on going toward the paint and the opponents keep getting the ball. Long rebounds is job of perimeter defenders like him.

    As someone who's always been lower on Jalen Green than most, him turning out to be a fraud doesn't make me happy on its own, but I caught some shit for thinking he was D+ Zach LaVine, so it's pretty vindicating, even if I want most players, him included, to be good
