kittu actually I really believe Magnus would beat him at the rubik’s cube easily, it’s not that hard, and Magnus definitely has a higher iq that this guy and that would make him learn faster.
Mario Alvear Yeah as someone who knows how to solve rubix cubes fast, there’s actually very little intellect involved. Most of it is recognition and then executing (on muscle memory of you practice enough) an algorithm (which is simply a series of moves that you memorize). I bet most people can solve it under 20 seconds if they dedicate time into it.
iimm0rtal Tanki yeah I know, I used to solve the rubik’s cube as well, just practiced for around 3 months and I my PB was 19sec, but a higher iq would really help to learn faster, besides Magnus has a really good memory so he could easily beat Max’s PB if he tries hard
The guy sucked at time management twice in this video. The first one was where his starting point was. Technically he should have started when the program was done and then start the "clock." It would be like saying he wants to be able to be able to learn to fly in a month and then start three weeks in because he was using the mail system for the paperwork and medical tests. He could have been reading books on chess and solving chess puzzles. The second part was he was running out of time in the game.
Maybe he misphrased it. I think he meant "I was able to play correctly for the first 8 moves which is a victory for me". Then he goes on to say that he noticed that he blundered with the knight move as Carlsen's body language switched from concentration to a more relaxed posture
@@the_semiotics The reason why people are malding is because it assumes that he had any doubt that he would win. Besides the fact that the entire video is about the possibility of beating such a chess juggernaut at all, it appears like a sort of ignorant insult.

GreenX yea magnus will lose his title at some point but he will never lose to someone who started learning chess as an adult. This guy can train with as many algorithms as he wants, it will not make any difference. If you havent started playing chess seriously in your early teens there is no chance you’ll catch up to any of these super gms
What would’ve been funny is after Magnus they brought in a 1200 rated 11 year old and said “here you go Max, let’s give you an opportunity to make yourself look like more of a clown”
"aha, Magnus is taking a longer time to play, he seems nervous!" Magnus Carlsen's brain: "Wasn't the guy who proofread Hitler's speeches technically a grammar Nazi?"
I don't know what's more arrogant. Thinking you can beat the world champion in a several hundred years old game after a month of practice, or that he could develop a highly accurate position evaluation algorithm(and somehow learn the algorithm himself) in a month, which computer scientists and mathematicians have been working on for decades.
This is the most accurate comment. In ten years he might have an FM or IM title, and then would totally re-think and then retract his challenge to Magnus.
"Unfortunately I ran out of time" Dude, you got mated, and didn't even notice it. Magnus had to extend his hand to you for you to understand it. Usually it's the loser that extends his hand to admit defeat.
Usually, the loser extends his hand 5-10 moves before he gets 'mated. These players are worlds apart from the host. Anyone can memorize an opening but the GMs will anihilate you in mid game. Magnus probably agreed to trade some pieces just to speed things up and was never anywhere near danger at any point during the match. It is like an English professor talking to someone who barely speaks English. Totally incomparable
Magnus is actually an 'extreme learner' and a true 'genius' and obsessive personality who has spent his entire life doing every single month what Max just did for only one month. What Max did this month - obsessively learning the 'algorithm' of the Ruy Lopez - Magnus did when he was 7. Not only that Magnus has done it consistently better than hundreds of other 'extreme learners' and 'geniuses' and this dude thought he could beat Magnus!!! lol
@@abhinavjain2985 Doubtful. I'm sure they thought it was entertaining, but no one honestly thought he would have given Magnus any bit of trouble. He could have started the game 5 pieces down and played blind folded and could have beaten him handily. It was just for fun and everyone knew the outcome.
Bangle Wei no chance even if you are a prodigy. Magnus is the prodigy to end all prodigys and even on top of that he has been studying the game for tens of thousands of hours over the course of years
He never thought he was going to win this tho. He was offered the game by wall street journal and accepted it. He made a blog post about it with daily updates
The most frustrating thing isn’t the notion that he claimed his computer could come up with the perfect game and it would go well with Magnus, it’s that he thought he could memorize all of the moves and all of the responses in a few hours.
even his little computer would get absolutely annihilated by magnus or even me (because it would be totally lost in positions that it does not know, which would be all of them)
I think it's pretty safe to say he wasn't actually building a chess algorithm. Who knows if even knows what Stockfish is. The guy is a just a self-promotional fraud.
Yeah like the backflip thing. It’s fine to say you wanna learn a backflip in a month, but what he tried to do here is win an Olympic gold in gymnastics a month. He completely overshot what’s realistic.
I think he's a dreamer and turned it into marketing stunts. If he makes it, good on him. Reality will slap him in the face obviously, but he may get lucky and get away with the money during his stunts ;-)
The only time Magnus was nervous in this entire video was probably when they asked him why he agreed to this. He was probably going through a hundred different responses to say "I wanted to see how stupid this man is" as humbly as possible. And saying Magnus is a chess player and he wins a lot is like saying Muhammad Ali is a boxer and he punches a lot.
"Keeping him nervous for 8 moves is a victory" Does he ACTUALLY think Carlsen was nervous throughout all this? He was throwing you a bone out of being chill, calm down boi.
A little delusional this guy. But hey in his world he almost beat magnus. If Only his inferior computer had calculated the algorithm faster. Not his fault......
First 5 moves in a Ruy Lopez too(though Magnus didn't play any of the 3 most common replies). I'm like 1k rating and I know more than 5 moves in most lines of that opening.
"Against a lifetime of learning chess" isn't the point. I've spent a longer life learning chess than Carlsen has. I'm 64. He will still beat me every time.
“When I moved my knight, you kind of twitched a bit” That “twitch” was definitely the same reaction that Magnus had when Nepo played c5 at the World Chess Championship.
Maybe he does. But no matter how high your IQ is, there's no way you're gonna do this. It's such a ridiculous idea. Like so ridiculous. Like oh my god this is so stupid.... like wow just wow.... you're gonna memorize trillions of perfect...? Omg omg I need some coffee
Side topic, but notice how Magnus, introduces himself in the most humble way possible. 'I am _currently ranked_ No 1. in the world in chess'. This phrasing kind of ephasises that the ranking is made by others, and it won't last forever. It's quite elegant.
what do you mean "made by others"? the rating in chess reflects your performance. it's "made by others" just like it's made by you. when you're winning, it increases, when you're losing, it decreases. "others" are just keeping the score. or do you imagine chess rating is like an IMDB movie rating, where people just vote subjectively :)
@@achessjourney402 The ranking system is made by others. And I agree it's his accomplishment but still saying "currently ranked" sounds more humble than saying "I am No. 1.", let alone "I am the best" or sg.

I don't think Max understands the difference between beating the World Champion at chess, and becoming good at something. When he was able to solve a Rubik's cube in under 20 seconds, that was impressive, but the equivalent achievement to beating Magnus Carlsen at Chess in Cubing terms is to be able to solve a Rubik's cube in an average of 6 to 8 seconds which is, believe me, extremely far from a sub 20 second personal best. But there is an even greater discrepancy between Max and Magnus when you take into account how old Chess is and how precise every nuance has to be. Additionally, Magnus has been playing chess almost all his life, and I don't doubt that even if Max intensely studied chess for that entire month, that Magnus has studied it many times in an even more concentrated time per month period during his whole career.
There's a difference between learning how to do something and becoming the best in the world at it. I'd be pretty impressed if a complete beginner could beat me, a relatively bad player, within a month of learning the game

It would rather be around 3-4 seconds
There's a difference between learning how to do something and becoming the best in the world at it. I'd be pretty impressed if a complete beginner could beat me, a relatively bad player, within a month of learning the game
The equivalent would be to become sub 5 (which would put you in the top 3 fastest solvers), and even then becoming a super gm in chess is much harder
@@Yurio Well the best in the world average around 6.5 seconds on any given solve so it's about right.
@@Hello-jh1rqthey easily average sub 6 if not faster
