That's the beauty of music you can be creative nothing is wrong with her being influenced by other musicians..Plus a lot of these moves were common to the sound and style of dance in the early 90's the "new jack swing era"....she mixed it well with her style of music and dance moves and created her own lane. 20 years later she's still relevant. im african american and I remember when I first "I could fall in love" on the radio. I was five years old and I begged my father to buy the cassette for me. He bought it and I just loved how beautiful she was And how lovely she sang. I asked my dad if she ever comes to town can we go see her? and can I dress like her at the show? my dad was so sad when he said "baby...she died earlier this year..someone killed her im afraid." I was so devastated and didnt understand why someone would hurt her. And when her movie came out some years later...only made me angry all over again. I didnt learn of this song until a year ago but its my fav. she really was special and I am still sad that her life was stolen away.

I think that's the word that may describe her best, genuine. And maybe that's the closest word I can use to describe why she captivates me on such a deep level. She has definitely been a huge inspiration in my life and I was only 5 when she passed away. She will forever live on through her unmatchable talent and unbelievable soul. I totally agree with you guys. I didn't have a real role model some time ago, but when I got to know Selena I just fell in love and can't get enough of her. I'm foreign, and probably from a quite distant and exotic country to many of you on here..Unfortunately I watched the movie and got to introduce myself to her songs, her personality too late, this past year in summer. And now I can't think of an artist who is a better singer, dancer, who has such a lot of control over performance, such outstanding skills, "stage personality"(artistry, energy and energetics, the right attitude, emotions, message) and everything altogether. She just slays. There are talented artists in many ways..but they are not her, they don't have something she had. So much talent, such a great personality in real life(such a great role model for us, women), such a great story of a family success and all other things that just she come together in one person.. And she had a rare beauty as well, taste for fashion, talent in design. Tons of her songs became my favorites. That is my favorite performance.
