That she would have been out of danger. So the MC is left married to a broken woman while wondering how the future will .

I remember one where a guy came back to town to go to a friend's funeral and discovered all the horrible things he'd done, and realized one of the reasons he'd left was because his "friend" sort of stole the girl the MC liked and did some horrible things to her to get her to marry him and use her money as well other things the friend had done to keep people in line and do his bidding.
Towards the end the MC gets hit with this sort of forced realization that maybe if he'd gotten up the courage to ask out his crush much sooner maybe he could have saved her the pain and misery she went through (which is not fair to him at all because the story makes it seem like the so called friend would have either stolen or black mailed the crush or get the MC to back off through another way, and while it's not stated you can feel the so called friend wouldn't have taken the MC having happiness laying down)
By the end the crush now widowed tells the MC to marry her and take care of her (she's kind of half broken mentally despite being freed from that horrible husband, to the point of having nightmares about what he did to her) which he does and in fact she is the one who semi said to him the reason she's like that is because if he'd confessed to her she'd be in a relationship with the MC instead of being left to deal with the friend. That she would have been out of danger. So the MC is left married to a broken woman while wondering how the future will .

This petty girl can’t get a grip. It’s not helpful that Satoshi can’t get his ego out of the way to actively engage with her instead of just denying and bickering. He at least asks questions and looks out for her. But she just can’t get over herself and see the big picture. Until her mom tells her the reason he lied. And what’s more she didn’t even think to ask him again why he lied. Because Satoshi doesn’t remember that (fever). It’s mostly the girl’s fault for this debacle, as she didn’t even let him apologize for anything. He would have said: “I apologize for something I don’t even know you are mad about; why are you mad?” If she said “why don’t you remember” he explains what her mom told her and if she still says he’s an asshole then he moves on from her. Because all he has seen since then is her feeling angry around his presence.

Story Idea:
An adult woman (FMC) receives a wedding invitation from her childhood friend and her first love(MMC) who she hasn’t heard from since high school. The reason why they cut contact was that she was a tsundere that teased yet loved him, but he finally had enough and stopped talking to her. She tried to talk to him but he always ignored her like she didn’t exist. He then left to a university far from her and now she learns that he’s getting married. After the wedding, she goes home heartbroken that because of her attitude she lost her first love. When she falls asleep she wakes up the next day, back in her high school days, before he cut contact with her. Taking an advantage of this event she vows to change her attitude to become a better person and to not lose her first love again.
