I have a Micro Center about an hour drive away but they have a very unusual selection of maker materials -- maybe this Pi store was just better laid out. At least I think Micro Center is starting to have some stock again.
Yeah Micro Center is definitely a lot better now. Radio Shack used to be almost identical to this, before they turned into a cell phone store in their later years. They had a lot of 'maker' (electronics) stuff in the back aisles, then TVs and entertainment stuff (microphones, speakers, even computers) towards the front. I like how the store had that vibe. I think they could stock a little bit more stuff but then they'd have to manage more inventory, and it would lose a little of the Pi focus.
@@JeffGeerling Oh how I remember. When I was a child, my uncle would always have the RadioShack catalog (maybe I signed up for them too at some point?) and I would always look through them, pining for items, and on a lucky occasion pick up something nerdy! I do recall some RadioShack's had a very small amount on the floor but loads more 'in the back' that you'd ask for, by catalog number!
Just drove up to the store today and finally got a Pi Zero 2W essentials kit as well as some nice merch. Almost went for one of those Pimoroni 52mm diameter, round lcd screens but can't think of a good project yet...
I think the only thing I would buy from there would be niche accessories - like 45 degree angle 40 pin headers, and crazy pi hats. Admittedly, Ali Express seems to be a better treasure trove of weird things like that.
It's a shame CPC Leeds used to be open to the public, their outlet was amazing. I work about a mile away 1-3 times a year and I used to love spending my lunch there and spend a few £££.
An epic tale unfolds: Jeff G. and the Crusade for The Last Piece of PI It's the year 2023 and a great plague has ravaged the world for years. In the aftermath of that cataclysm prices for some Silicon-based treats have reached heights that would make the clouds jealous. But all this is of no concern for King G. the Grey as he sent out his son Jeff on a Holy Crusade beyond the Great Pond to find the last piece of Pi and bring it home to his father so that he can enjoy the pleasures of building small home projects with it as so many others before him have.
Man I got sad all over again about Maplin going under. One of the few places that were easily accessible for makers in the UK to get electronics project stuff and even support with em.
Haha the Pi Zero W is priced at 15 pounds, which would suggest that Pi Zero 2 is probably more expensive than that. On the upside at least the availability is getting better.

The Micro Center in Dallas has one of those Pi locations that they're putting in now...good stuff
The PI man. Iove your videos man. Such friendly understated attitude.
When you talking about there is Rpi in Micro center, We over here in the Carolina doesn't even have a Micro Center, the closest one is in GA or VA.
Jeff: you can get them, they're in stock
me: not able to afford the cross pond trip for a RPI4
The stack of big Vero boards would have came home with me.
My PI 1 is in a case almost identical to the one Jeff says looks like a late 90s case.
Oh really! I didn't know that was a production case! I like the frosted plastic look
@@JeffGeerling I think the case is third party. Next time I pull it out I'll take a picture.
Omg you linked Dan Wood in the Maplin video, he does Amiga stuff!
Many great folks in the UK!
Such a cute store and such a cute video!
Thanks Jeff :)
It's a shame CPC Leeds used to be open to the public, their outlet was amazing. I work about a mile away 1-3 times a year and I used to love spending my lunch there and spend a few £££.
An epic tale unfolds:
Jeff G. and the Crusade for The Last Piece of PI
It's the year 2023 and a great plague has ravaged the world for years.
I live a few hours away from that store and went one time I was down in Cambridge super cool store!
And that's why pro analogue audio has male XLR plugs for inputs and female for outputs.
It's a shame you didn't have more money so you could buy one of everything in that store. Seeing that giant perf board has me wanting to make my own keyboard.
Marlin closed! Damn, Dad used to get their catalog and use it for reference, could not get the goods in South Africa but the book was useful.
"For my daughter" ... Okay, Jeff 😉
It's is quite soft! My other kids are jealous though... the youngest one gets all the plushies!
I do have some of the pi prototype cases, a friend of mine is product designer involved with Rpi.
Nice, I didn't know about your Ansible book, ordering it now!
Customs officer: What's the purpose of your visit, sir?
Jeff: Tax write-off content masquerading as a vacation.
CO: ?
Jeff:?
CO: Welcome to the UK, sir.
The last time I came across a shop full of raspberry pi parts was some electronics store in an alley in Akihabara in Tokyo. I wish there's something like in this video not too far away from me.
