- Ken Tanaka is back. This time camping and fly fishing in Pisgah National Forest on the Davidson River in North Carolina. Camping with kids can be awesome but also difficult. Here are some great camping tips. I was taking my 4 year old out camping for the first time and this is a fantastic place to bring a little one. So many activities around that area. Fly Fishing, Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education, Bobby N. Setzer State Fish Hatchery, Pisgah Ranger Station, Looking Glass Rock, Looking Glass Falls and Sliding Rock. It's also close to Brevard and Asheville as well.
Parking for the campsite is at the Wildlife Education Center and the campsite is only a 5-10min walk along the Davidson River.

1. Good on you for taking the little man along and even better on teaching him the value of packing out everything you brought with you. Way to go making it fun for him.
2. Whenever I camp (car camping or backpacking), I use some kind of "rug" for the outside of the tent. It provides an area for taking off and putting on shoes to keep from tracking dirt in the tent. For the family I use a large outdoor rug, when its just one or two of us I use a cheap lightweight doormat, and when backpacking I use half of a foam Ridge Rest foam sleeping pad.

@@Wish4Fish to be fair, my son is a little older, but I am a combat veteran and spent about half of his childhood as phone calls, cards and letters from foreign countries. So now I am trying to make up for lost time.

This is awesome, I have so many memories from my childhood in this area (especially Dolly's!) as I went to Falling Creek Camp when I was a kid! This part of the country will always hold a special place in my heart, and I can't wait to be able to share it with my future kids someday.

Ken what a great video, your son is adorable and I was watching it with a grin on my face the whole way through! So cool you and your little guy were speaking Japanese, the little guy is bilingual at 4 and I'm struggling with English after speaking it for 54 years!😉😁 I have to agree this is one of my favorite videos that you have posted of all time! Awesome video ken, some of my best memories were the fishing trips my dad used to take me on, learned a lot about camping responsibly and how good a burger tastes after a couple days in the woods. Now that I am grown I get to take my dad fly fishing in Montana next month.
Awesome! Yeah, same here. Well, at least the fishing part. My father wasn’t much of a hiker or camper.
Hopefully my son will develop the love the the outdoors as well.
Great to see a new video posted though not many fishing scenes, but nothing can compare the precious father and son time.

Great video. Looks like a great spot to take your kids Lol looks like your son had a blast. My kids love going with me to and its a great thing to do with them. But usually i just take them for sunnies and camp. But they love it

I can tell you good ken is, and I've never met him, but have fished the Davidson. IT IS HARD TO CATCH ANY FISH THERE. Those are some smart fish, even the small ones. Strictly master class material.

@@BusyHiker - The hike and campsite are 2 different places. The hike was Looking Glass Rock. The campsite parking is at the Wildlife Education Center and the campsite is only 5-10min downstream of the Davidson River.

Just park at the Pisgah Center-Wildlife Education Center. Follow the Davidson River downstream and you will find camping spots. First come first serve.

It's at the education center actually. At least that's where you park and head downstream from there.
