6:12 Using the word "Nangi" is kind of looking down on women in Sri Lanka. Young girls are picked up by adult men calling them "Nangi" on the streets. Do not justify picking up women on streets. It's not normal. While I'm agreeing with Dushyanth on how that word has a cultural meaning to Sri Lankans I also urge both of you to use your words carefully as you are the future trend setters in Sri Lanka. ❤️ Thank you Stephanie for being the strong intelligent role model for Sri Lankan women.
How I see it that, most western influenced people find this uncomfortable as thats the norm in the west and that is the culture they cultivate. I remember when i was in the corperate world few years back, i very well remember how we were encouraged not to Sir or Madam anyone but to call everyone by the first namr or by Mr/Mrs.Surname as the new trend is being American.
However i do feel the western culture is way behind as it is not emotional as this part of the world with much richer cultures. While the west believes and practices democracy they also have exploded themselves with Activists who is actually destroying the freedom of speech. Everyone is so foolishly opiniated not even smarter lads opinions get recognized. The west is fighting for equality while forgetting the norms of respect in society. They have lost the emotional connection of words, as they try to be politically correct all the time and be equal. But whereas in our cultures we address elders and youngsters differently acknowledging with a certain emotion. There's a huge difference in calling someone Ranga and Ranga Ayya or calling someone Kasun and Kasun Malli. Obviously this sense of emotional connection is not in the west as their cultures are not refined as ours. American culture is not even One Tenth old as ours. They may be ruthless destructive dominating economies and a super power of the world. But their very poor cultured human beings. The one time that poor country had a crisis they looted the whole country. Showed poorly cultured they are.
Human life is based on Thoughts. Every though is based on emotion. So what more to say of cultures that has less emotional connection? How can you understand each other without emotion? The sentence of words can mean very differently to its emotion.
I do understand where my wife Stephanie comes from and how she feels to cringe every time I call her Nangi. But i want her to understand its out of love and respect and also more importantly its because of I'm a breed of this rich Sri Lankan culture. I'm proud of who I am. I'm proud to be Sri Lankan. ☺️

This mostly happens to teach the kids how to address their parents. If a child's mom calls her husband "thatthi", the child tries to imitate it at a younger age and call the father with that name. That's the main intension. However with time, moms and dads forget to change back to their names and keep it the way they are used to call each other
