UK's brand is backed by a country wide fanbase of fare weather casuals. Same as Bama football. Jumped on board when they were winning and will jump off when they aren't. This goes for any program though. Kentucky isn't special.

I've been pitching my vote of confidence in hiring Rondo as our coach as the best possible candidate that makes sense in many ways apart from Hurley, ever since the news of Cal leaving broke out. Hardly anybody took it seriously. Now that this video comes out, I see a lot of people commenting in favor of Rondo hiring.
I believe Rondo can recruit (both HS kids and transfer portal) even at some low profile program - let alone with the backing of Kentucky brand. Not to mention the ability to coach the game of basketball. I don't see anybody else besides Rondo who can still be that someone who can seamlessly have the alumni like AD, Boogie (may be on Rondo's coaching staff + Ulis & coach Welch that Rondo and Boogie very familiar), Maxey and the rest, stay in touch/connected with the UK program, and as well as other pros like the likes of KG, Paul Pierce, Lebron etc come drop by UK practices and/or for* games in Rupp arena.
So in short, we get the best of both in Rondo: the profile/ability to recruit AND the ability to actually fckin coach the team/players, which matters the most.
p.s let's not wait around just to "find out". I believe Rondo can not only right the ship, but he may very well be able to retain some of the incoming committed recruits, if not all. #BBN

I would love to see Rondo as coach but it kinda scares me at the same time because this whole former players as coaches haven't really worked out. Look at Penny hardaway at Memphis and Patrick Ewing when he was at Georgetown. And Juan Howard at Michigan and Chris Mullins when he was at St John's. They didn't work out at all. And cousins is right it's going to be really hard to replace Cal. Drew Scott is the favorite to currently be the next coach and he has missed the tournament or lost in the first 2 rounds in 15 of his 21 seasons at Baylor. And Billy Donovan has either missed the tournament or lost in the first 2 rounds in 10 of his 19 seasons at Florida. Those are the 2 options to replace Cal 😂. It's gonna be rough for us thanks to all the fans with unrealistic expectations
Just one thing they were saying about how years droughts between coaches Bettino and Tubby took over for Bertino the year after Patino left we won a national championship, and UCLA has really only had one great coach John R wooden won 10 out of their 11 national championships, and we have five different coaches that have won a national championship at Kentucky, and four that are in the Hall of Fame

I'm excited to potentially see them get back to the old ways of finding diamonds in the rough and molding them over several years. Most of these top recruits just want to avoid injury in their only college season, you can see the lack of effort year after year. Also, someone should really educate Boogie on the history of the school he played for, its getting ridiculous.
Way to early rankings already have Arkansas in the top 20… and they don’t have a single player on their current roster.

Yea sure. Hes the "top guy", who hasnt been to the Sweet 16 in 6 years, and is getting routinely bounced in the 1st round. And never had a single chip BEFORE Kentucky. You Cal fans act like this dude is Coach K or Pitino. Hes a recruiter for the NBA. He gets the best talent year after year, and has ONE title to show for it in 30+ years. Boogie's take is ridiculous. UK Alumni here. Boogie shot an airball here. UK is bigger than Cal. Always has been and will be. It is why they are on TV. Biggest brand in Men's Basketball. The standard is national champion contention, not 3 straight home losses first time in 45 years or being bounded by teen seeded teams. The facts show post covid Cal has not been great by any standard.
Has Rondo ever coached? Louisville tried that with Kenny Payne. All players don't make good coaches. Dan Hurley is a great coach because his dad was a coach and took his high school to many state championships. You don't get good at something unless you spend time working on it. Not smart hiring someone who never coached and expect big success. But if you want to just please the crowd, give it a shot. I am sure the rest of the SEC will love you for it.

We’ve also got an A.D. that needed to be replaced A LONG TIME AGO! I would’ve been more interested in seeing Mitch leave than I would’ve Cal. Y’all that wished him gone will realize real soon how hard it’s going to be for a few years. I guarantee we’ll have to hire some random no name coach to get through a couple seasons until we can find a good coach that’s UK material. Which let me tell ya, are few and far between! Ya’ll just don’t seem to realize that a lot of fans bring too much baggage to the program and make it next to impossible to find a suitable replacement. No big name coach wants to try and compete against some of the ungrateful fan base we have. They’re subjected to too much scrutiny, and are ran off when they don’t have a perfect season every year. All we can do now is hope for the best, but us true fans were still fans during the extreme lows(Billy G, and Tubby Smith eras.) So you can bet we will still be fans during the next era! 💙 BBN
Hell yeah well said.. I don't care too much for Mitch I think they need a change all around, his ego is too big thinking he's the reason for all the success. Some of these people don't understand that UK has done it way before them and will continue to do it long after them. We do need someone with experience, you have to put in the work to understand all the different aspects in coaching. I would love it if Rondo was on the staff but I think he needs some experience before he can jump straight into coaching at one of the biggest schools. Yeah his basketball IQ is off the charts but you need experience to be able to translate that into coaching and getting the best out of kids. College basketball isn't what it used to be, you aren't gonna win the tournament with one year players every year, you might get lucky every once in a while. You have to balance the top recruits with players that will stay a few years and build a team. I imagine it's hard with some of the kids today since they can easily transfer schools or leave for the NBA because they want to play now instead of putting in the work and then being able to build a team around that. I also agree some of the fans are ridiculous, yeah I get that it's Kentucky and we want to hold them to a high standard but some of these expectations are just over the top. We don't need the fairweather fans, we have plenty of true fans that have supported the team for their entire life. I started watching Kentucky when I was a young kid in the early 90s because we're from Kentucky, my dad would watch Kentucky because his dad watched Kentucky and so on. I think we'll be alright as long as we find a good coach, but sometimes you don't know how good you have it until it's gone

I love Boogie and I get that he's loyal to Cal, BUT to think John Calipari is bigger than Kentucky is LAUGHABLE. Cal killed it for 10 years, but hasn't been coaching up to his standards written in his book these last 5 years. HE allowed relationships with local media, donors, and the UK athletic department to sour. HIS doing. Going forward, Kentucky is going to be fine just like they have been throughout it's history. Winningest program of all time. Most Final Fours, second most national championships, have more SEC championships than everyone else combined, etc. And the GT guy comparing UK to UCLA is also laughable. UCLA was great in the 60s & 70s. Have won only one national championship since 1975. Wooden was UCLA. Coach K was Duke. Bobby Knight was Indiana. Kentucky, Kansas, and North Carolina continue on winning no matter who the coaches are.
I wish nothing but success for Cal. But Arkansas fans need to understand what they're getting. He's extremely loyal to certain players over others, he makes ZERO in game adjustments, doesn't call timeouts, doesn't guard inbounds, doesn't run half court plays, will not play zone, and worst of all they don't scout and adjust how they play on offense or defense for any team. Calipari believes his teams are so talented that as long as they play the way he wants them to play they'll win regardless of who the opponent is. It's why we had zero clue what to do vs a 2-3 zone from Oakland, we couldn't defend a guy who had taken 8 2 pt FGs all season. I could go on and on. He's stubborn and believes his way is the only way. Also, Kentucky was great this past season offensively because of John Welch, who left Cal for Fresno State. You'll have one good assistant (Orlando Antigua), Bruiser Flint and Chin Coleman are useless. He's going to hire his son as an assistant also. Sure, he'll get some celebrities and his former players to come around and he'll sign some top 5 classes, but you'll find out rather quickly he's stubborn as a mule and if things aren't going well for him he'll dodge press conferences, he won't take accountability and he'll isolate the mens basketball program from the rest of the athletics department.

Boogie is one of my favorite UK players of all time, but UK fans being upset with 1 ncaa win and 1 sec tourney win in 5 years, the longest home losong streak in our history, a 9-16 year, not even making a single final four in a decade =/= wanting a title every year. There are a few idiots that want that but the overwhelming majority of us want to be competitive and live up to our history. Really just an L take there.

UK won a national championship 13 years before Cal showed up in Lexington..after Tubby's UK title you had 13 years of underwhelming results. Then Cal shows up right after the smartphone modern world was taking flight. He took UK to the PINNACLE of relevance for going on 15 years. Yes its been underwelming in march for last 4 runs but you were still guaranteed going to have the craziest talent year n year out. That is GONE for the short term BBN.
