HUGE Lego train coal terminal fully automated by Arduino

- Three Lego trains load and unload at a huge Lego coal terminal. Everything is automated by Arduino.

The trains can stop at two silos to load coal into their wagons. Next, they are parked at the train yard. When the unload facility is available, a train will be unloaded.
The unloading part is the most complicated part of the structure: after arrival of the Lego train, pneumatic cilinders will push a conductor to the bottom of the wagons, where also a conductor is located. These conductors drive power which open a hatch in the bottom of the Lego coal wagon. The coal drop on a conveyor belt and is transported with other conveyor belts and an excavator to the silos.

6 years later and this is still my favourite lego train video on youtube. All the trains have a purpose and are carrying actual cargo! Super amazing, such a gem.

Thanks man, nice to read such comments! I'm busy with an automated container terminal but it takes a lot of time to get it right and nowadays I have two kids so time is an issue. But it'll built, that's for sure!
@Luke Lindsay: the coal wagons have a hatch in the bottom which is activated by a conductor also on the bottom of the wagon. During unloading, pneumatic pistons push a conductor to the other conductor of the wagon. That way a motor inside the wagon is activated, which opens the hatch so the coals are falling out. Me would interest if you could do like a crane which picks the containers up and puts the on the ground and then puts them back on a other train i think it you could do something like that

That is the single handedly most AWESOME thing I have ever seen. I've always wanted a Lego train but I could never afford one
@Alex G the lights on the 60051 passenger train are high intensity red LEDs. I've connected them with some electronics to the 9V motor output. The red lights on the Horizon Express train are normal LEGO PF lighting with a transparent red brick in front of the lights.

Well, I think it's mainly because of my lack of modern building skills, haha. I grew up with 80's and 90's lego sets which didn't have much SNOT techniques so that's all new to me.
