How do you know if you can use a digital stagebox?
What digital stagebox can you use?
In fact, how do they differ from analogue stage boxes?
And why can’t you just plug them into any mixer?
Digital stageboxes pack ins, outs, converters, and preamps into one little box.
In return for this wonder, they can be more challenging to understand and set up.
But don’t worry because this is a full guide to digital stageboxes.
We’ll take a look at how they work compared to analogue boxes,
why you can’t connect any stagebox to any mixer,
and how to use them in combination with analogue stageboxes for a well-managed stage. - Фільми й анімація
Bro, just found out your channel. You really help our lives as a beginner engineer, hope you always enlighten us in tons of live audio tutorials! Thank you so much!
thank you so much! This means a lot to me. So happy to hear it's helpful
I am only really familiar with Yamaha but... You can actually use a Yamaha Rio stage box with ANY Dante enabled mixer. You would use the "R" Remote application to adjust the head amp gain and phantom power. You would then use Dante Controller to patch Dante to Dante.
Very true. You can patch any Dante device into any other Dante device using Dante controller, but as you pointed out you need to use another method to send the control data. In the Yamaha case there's an app. For Shure wireless mics you can use the receiver itself. You could also just use it for line level signals where you don't need gain. But I wouldn't encourage anyone to shoehorn a Rio box into an Allen and heath setup just because they can.
Great information, thanks. Could you do a video or guide on DI boxes? What are they? How, when and where to use them? And so on...
Thanks! Yeah absolutely
AES67? One standard to rule them all.
Great content as always! Super excited for the next one
Glad to hear it! Got a bunch more stuff lined up
PreSonus uses AVB
Whao!!! such a genius 🙏🏻
Great video, there is always something to leurn
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it!
Great information
Thanks!Glad you liked it
Great video. I think of digital stage boxes as relocating the whole ‘back plane’ of the digital mixer, ie moving the audio in pre amps and A2D circuit board, phantom power section to the stage, and since it’s very much the guts of the mixer it has to be the manufactures own device. However with Dante you can at least tap off the pre-gained signals to another Dante device eg. monitor mixer or broadcast with no degradation.
Great way of thinking about it!
How can you run a connection to a stage box over 100m away
What are the benefits of just turning it on and off again in the case of an impending catastrophe?
I personally recommend just turning it off and getting on the first plane to Mumbai if I'm honest
I wonder when the idea of converters will ever rear its beautiful head? Incompatible digital stageboxes are a disgrace to the technology of digital audio. A mix surface is a really personal thing and the concept of needing to rewire the house to use one’s favorite mixer is quite honestly, laughable at this point.
