  • You are listening to "The Word Of God Converts Us" sermon 1 of the series, “Changed By The Word.”
    Have you ever wondered why the evangelical church is anemic and undernourished? It’s because very few of us actually read the Bible every day.

    I promised God about 5-6 years ago, that I would spend 10% of my time with Him and studying His Word. Basically, 50 min. morning, afternoon and evening. It keeps my 83 year old mind very active. Thank You, Father.

    It's believable I love to sit down with a cup of coffee or capuccino and read the Bible just emerse myself in it. It makes me feel better and closer to God the more time I spend in scripture the stronger I feel in faith.

    I can give my hearty "Amen!" to how essential daily bible reading & meditating on the word is to our lives as Christians. It's neccessary to the vitality and fruitfulness of our lives of faith. I've not always kept my morning tryst with the Lord, and when I failed to do it, I became much weaker in fighting against temptation and wordliness-my heart & mind so easily loses its focus on those things above. This series has caused me to recommit to remaining in the word. After 40 years in Christ, I'm now more concerned with quality over daily quantity of scripture. 1 or 2 thoughts or truths carried in memory and applied to every action throughout each day is optimal for me. E.g. That means just a few verses of Proverbs rather than a whole chapter. But that's after I've read the bible through many times.

    My opportunity to “read” the Word daily comes in the form of 2 1/2 hours of my daily drive to & from work. After about 3 years this has meant 2-3 complete readings of the Bible. But it’s so odd. Passages I’m sure I’ve read or heard several times seem on further reading to be totally new & fresh. Other times there are things I must have missed the first several times that pop out on the third or fourth reading. The Word is a feast....a smorgasbord that Jesus set before me!
    “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:.....”. Ps 23:5

      Its wonderful how the Lord gives us fresh eyes. Try this. Read 1st John once a day, every single day without fail for one month. The first few times it will seem like the same over and over but day 6 or 7 you will start seeing things you never saw. And the more days of that month the more you will discover. It is a very short book. Easy to commit to and do even if you have to stay up a little later after a full day. You can do half or a third of a longer book the same then go to the next half or 3rd. I learned that from.a preacher. I tried John and started seeing new things. Unfortunately I let the enemy get me to stop. But I want to do it again and continue with the rest of the new testament as I read the old to a friend in nursing home in Ohio. Please pray for her. Her name is Verla. Im way down in Texas. Ty God bless you.

    Moody church denies the promise of the Father, the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the physical evidence of speaking in tongues! Acts 1:4; 2:4

    • @MoodyChurchMedia
      @MoodyChurchMedia  Рік тому +2

      Thanks for listening Paul!
      We believe in both the early church and even some examples today, when God so moves among us, that the Holy Spirit empowers believers to speak in other tongues and languages for His glory (Acts 2:4). These tongues were actual spoken languages that were granted by the Holy Spirit, and this allowed the gospel to transcend language and culture barriers (Acts 2:5-12). To learn more about our doctrinal position, check out this brief article: www.moodymedia.org/articles/speaking-tongues/
      For a deeper dive into 1 Corinthians 12, Pastor Lutzer describes what this passage says about interpreters and the Holy Spirit's supernatural work through human languages: www.moodymedia.org/sermons/passion-church/regulation-spiritual-gifts/
      Every believer has the Holy Spirit, who pours out His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:5)! We then are empowered for ministry through the Holy Spirit (Acts 4:31; 13:52).

      Many believers, both new and old, have been confused, deceived and discouraged by what speaking in tongues is. I believe the practice of tarrying/ upper room, is false Christianity. I hope this helps someone. You should read the whole article. "Also, we do not believe that the gift of tongues is necessary as proof of salvation or of the filling of the Spirit; nor is it the result of being baptized by the Holy Spirit. We believe that the birth of the church at Pentecost cannot be repeated just as the birth of Christ cannot be repeated. We do not have to meet in an upper room to wait for the promised Holy Spirit, for He has arrived." Erwin Lutzer.
