  • An Air Force program that follows up on laser coatings removal research, to implement fully autonomous paint removal systems for the F-16 Falcon and C-130 Hercules aircraft, both at Hill Air Force Base. The laser energy is applied through large, high-precision robots specially designed and built for this application.

Too bad the one for C130 at Hill AFB never worked. What a waste of money.

    Two Comments:
    1. Now just Imagine using the PhotoFusion laser coating application system to apply Powder coatings and other environmentally friendly coatings. Couple this with the PhotoFusion systems ability to substantially reduce drag and decrease fuel consumption and you can Multiply the cost savings by an order of magnitude and return the asset to service in a third of the time!
    2.
It would be nice to see this technology used on other than grey or dark pigments. I suspect there is a reflective problem with White and our gloss pigments. The laser used is probably a 1064 nm yag or fiber laser owing to the green optical laser protection glass. The problem as i see it the majority of Commercial aircraft are white and gloss white on top of that. It would be a shame to miss such market potential. However I feel we at PhotoFusion may be able to solve that.
