  • So I did an online audition, and may have passed or failed it. But to evaluate how well I did would require knowing the band I was auditioning for. Well, I'll give a clue. They are based in London, I think. Also without context and knowing the song, one does not know what the song needs and doesn't needs, how busy the bass and riffs are, or even if there are riffs.
I did not pass the audition and though the correspondence was polite and good natured, they didn't respond after the videos were all sent. After all, they probably were overrun with audition 'tapes', and don't have time to offer feedback. They would risk the sycophantic or overly involved conversations if they indulged that curiosity. It's best to know what you want.
I once auditioned for Les Claypool and one of his projects, which I think was to be the Flying Frog Brigade in Northern California where he is based, in about 2000. A huge fan of Primus, someone had seen an ad in the classifieds in a local paper in a Longs Drug store. I rushed a hi8 camera tape and played a bunch of long winded solos, not realsing how much of the work of dynamic control, song sections, self-control and familiar songs of a proggy nature would be required of even being considered.
