I always just find the biggest strongest wasp and challenge him to fist fight. After I whoop his ass the others get the message and leave.
Really great advice. I wondered why they always came back. Now I know.
If you have found a big hornets nest, it is better do not spray it yourself, but ask for the help of local beekeeper with special protective suit, or call for local wasps extermination service.
Put some white vinegar in a spray bottle. It really makes a job on their shell and smelling sense. Just be careful because they go crazy when they notice it.

She is correct that by removing the pheromone that is left behind they will not come back. She left out an important point, they won't come back to that spot that the nest was removed and cleaned up but it does NOT prevent them from building in the same area, just not that same spot.
Every year I have lots of wasps and hornets and I think they made nests in my neighbors old shed that is falling apart and not being used. Every year I ignore it but it is starting to get hard to enjoy the yard or plant a garden because they are everywhere. I don’t want to end up in the hospital, especially right now with this covid bs. I really wish my neighbor would take care of it. I wish there was a way to move it into the woods without killing them & without getting stung to death.
Hi Jan! That sounds incredibly frustrating, and I'm with you -- this is no time to need to go to the hospital! To protect your own property, consider hanging a dummy nest. I get no kickback from Gardeners.com, but their fake/dummy nests, hung on the outer corners of your garden, will absolutely help deter them. It won't harm the wasps so they can keep doing their thing, but they'll be less likely to fly into your yard when they see another nest has already set up shop. Hope that helps so you can get back to gardening with ease!

I got stung by tons of bees when I was so young, that I don’t remember the incident. My folks remember and have told me. I got stung, which caused me to scream, therefore ended up in my mouth, then ears and down my shirt. Maybe 2 years old and was in my dog’s doghouse. From then on , I’ve been terrified of hornets, wasps, sometimes bees. I will spray my house down, so I do not see nor hear even a fly🥳

I have had a huge hornet nest in between our siding on the outside of my house. I thought what could I use to keep from not getting stung. I took two fly strips and coated them with a bit of fish blood. It worked filled both and filled two more before I caught all of them
I am also extremely allergic to ALL "bees" thank you for putting this info out there, I only learned last year to wash away the spot where the nest were...now I am dealing with carpenter bees drilling into every pole on my porch, some say they sting, others say they done....I allergic so I always go with the chance they may sting.
Carpenter bees will almost never sting. Fly in your face? Yes. But they RARELY sting. They do however fight off yellow jackets because yellow jackets will try to prey on them. Carpenter bees can do damage to the structure over time but typically it's very minor stuff. Where I work at there's maybe 30-40 that fly around and burrow in the old wood. Don't worry about them too much.
Look at the forehead of the bee . If there is a white dot it has no stinger. I can’t remember if they are the male ones or whatever,but I used to catch them barehanded and take them to school and release them to the classroom. LO L total f**kin pandemonium 👹

If you see a wasp nest in the ground wait till the evening when there asleep and put petrol into the nest then plug it up the fumes kill the wasps.
Hey Laura last year I found out im also deathly allergic to bee venom. my sister told me they were yellow jackets that made an underground hive in my back yard and a home in the siding next to my front door. After researching we came across Delta Dust that is pet safe and safe for people its the same chemical that goes on flea and tick collars. using an air puffer thing lol it easily went into the nest opening. the bees will go through the powder at the entrance and carry it all the way into the hive.
Can you just spray rubbing alcohol so you have to rub because some places I can't reach
BEST approach is to drench the entire nest with several prolonged saturating blasts of Johnson's RAID Wasp & Hornet Killer that completely penetrate and saturate the paper nest, delivered from a distance of at least 20 feet away, upstream of wind direction (away from you), in the evening when wasps/hornets have settled down and are not active. Repeat for two consecutive nights using at least 2-4 cans of RAID (depending on the size of the nest). Do NOT attempt to destroy or remove the nest shell until there has been no day time insect activity for at least one week. ALWAYS maintain a safe distance away from the nest. Bag the nest in an air-tight, tightly secured (leak proof) disposable plastic trash bag. NEVER attempt this if you have ever been diagnosed with anaphylactic hypersensitivity (allergy) to stinging insect venom.
DON'T kill mud /dirt daubers. They don't normally bother people and are actually kind of cool. I busted a nest open once and found a bunch of young black widow spiders stashed in there to feed the young wasps as they hatch. I decided then n there these dirt daubers are my friends.

As you say don't kill them unless you really have to, like in your case due to your deadly allergic reactions.
I know in my part of the world the Wasps go hunting for spiders. and believe me they know where to look for them, and yes I also seen them kill a spider 4 to 5 times the size of them selves, including our deadly spiders.
So if you don't need to kill them don't.
Awesome!!! Thank you! I’ve been struggling with wasps, hornets, and yellow jackets. I’m wondering if I could spray alcohol from a sprayer bottle on the areas after I get rid of them, I notice that they do come back. I can’t paint because it’s natural wood like a cabin. I’ve tried making bait boxes to try and get get rid of them. This is very useful!!!
Also I have a spray bottle with water, dish liquid and peppermint oil when I find them inside (several a day) and don’t want to spray poison inside. That kills them almost instantly. I’ve had 2 yellow jacket queens inside! Uuuug! I thought they were hummingbirds at first 😳 I might try spraying alcohol where I think they are getting inside. I live in such a beautiful place but it’s quite rural in Tennessee so bugs are very prevalent.

Laura Stone yes! I’ve been hitting the area for several days and I haven’t seen activity today:) trying some new traps today, so far lots of flies 😂
Alysia Van Camp i use drion dust or sevin dust for wrasp inside wall voids,blow it in their entry way,took out over 5000 wrasp!plus larva.i dusted heavy,.orthene 97 mixed with permethrin for the outside around the house mixed in a garden hose sprayer,the results was great
snoop furlow thank you:) my bait boxes didn’t work so well this time. I’ll be trying again with different bait next time:) I’ll research your suggestions for sure! Not sure what those things are yet, but I’ll definitely look into it:)
Good lord, it's almost worth it to burn the house down and start over if you have that level of infestation! ;) Please note, though, that I am NOT encouraging people to kill wasps/hornets unless they have someone sensitive to stings living in the same area. Wasps are incredibly beneficial creatures. (And the insecticides you listed are maybe best handled by a pro. They can be indeterminate killers of incredibly beneficial insects such as bees, dragonflies, and butterflies, and permethrin can be highly toxic to cats, as well.) Thanks for commenting!

Not true from up to quarter mile away yes you will?be?attacked but only if wasps from the same hive hear
If i find an underground nest,I mark it with a rock or brick near it during the day then at night I get the gasoline out and get rid of it
Thanks for the tips. I kill wasps at night because ALL of the wasps from that nest are on the nest. I like to think they can't see me, but maybe they can. lol It makes me feel good to think I am invisible so that is what I am going with now. I have no wasp allergies. So sorry about yours.
i have a nest on my deck behind the house ,size like big melon..but i dont want kill them ,dont want them to die ...how i can remove their nest together with them inside to forest and if this recommended ? thanks
what a kind heart you have! If only hornets did as well... You should under no circumstance attempt to relocate a hornet's nest. It's time to call in a professional. They will be able to determine if the nest can be relocated or if destruction is called for (they're not endangered).
@@Laura_Stone ..thanks..i talk already with pro people..everybody want to kill them..i got white suit for beeekeepers and i think to close on the bottom of the nest enter for short with duct tape until i spray around nest with rustoleum leak seal rubber spray to make sure they dont run on me at night when i do that..so when rubber got solid and cover whole nest i can cut 2x4 boards where they hang and bring whole to forest and open entoer again that they can stay and back again inside ..just they will have rubber sealant around they nest and i hope that spray wont hurt them
@@avetsuper6272 please consider that you might asphyxiate them with this process, and injure yourself. My advise is to leave this to a professional. The world is not short on hornets.
@@Laura_Stone thanks..well last night racoon came and he destroy that huge nest around 3 am..i heard some strange noise ,came out and so racoon keep scratching his nose with both hands ,i guess they attacked him ..but in the morning nest is gone,just small peace were around but they keep comming on that spot but no nest i even washed with power washer what left ..they still comming back
Here I live in the Philippines, we have a problem of wasp too they are like hanging around the bath room window I think they are attracted to the water we have window screen so we kinda safe but the problem is they keep coming back and sometimes they still get through the little edges of the screen I already sprayed pesticides but a couple of weeks they keep coming. So should I rub some used motor oil on where they hanging its annoying. I got stung once its a little painful but I am worried they might stung other people in our house
Christian Knight not motor oil but rubbing alcohol or paint over the nesting site. That screen sounds like job 1, though!

I'm glad the information can help! That tidbit about the hormone left behind is usually the missing piece for continued pest control.

Well one thing you need to know bald-faced hornets yellow jackets and other wasps generally don't sting you if you leave them alone and they are beneficial insects to and they eat other bugs like mosquitoes and flies and they also help the ecosystem to and they also decompose dead animals as well which is good

Speak for yourself. It's no fun if they nest near your home or you are doing yard work and their nest is hidden and you don't see it or one or more get in your house. They may be beneficial but they are NOT harmless like butterflies. They will attack and fly at your face and get on you. I have no love for them because they can inflict so much pain.
It depends on were the nest is located.
How are you suppose to leave them alone if their nest is in the corner of your porch or if one keeps flying around you near your face or is about to alight on your arm? You make them sound harmless. They are definitely NOT.

I'm very pretty??? Try not to be condescending. And if you watched, you would have heard that I tell people wasps are beneficial and insecticides should only be used if you have a situation where you have an elderly/young person in physical danger of being stung. Terrible comment.
