Their ungodly fear had caused them to consider returning to Egypt because they felt that they would not die there, due to the country’s great prosperity. A word for the wise, if YOU are hoping and praying to enter into the promised land, (heaven) YOU WILL have to live by FAITH and not prosperity. The Jews believed that they would be safe and secure if they had left the wilderness and returned to Egypt because they would be able to SEE how they would survive in Egypt.
