Not unfortunate…. These were all comedy geniuses. I am glad we saw them when they were at their best…. And this film remains one of my all time favourites 😎👍🇬🇧
We took it for granted that there would be a never ending supply of really great quality humour in those days, there were so many excellent comics, Dave Allen, Tommy Cooper, and of Course Arthur Lowe and the Dads Army team, to name only a few. Sadly we were wrong.
If you like Science Fiction/Comedy, besides the well known "Red Dwarf" series on TV, have you watched "Dark Star" - now famous Director John Carpenter's first (Low budget) movie that he directed, of which I have a DVD of at home, but I believe has also been posted elsewhere on UA-cam. Another good black & white silent comedy film, full of now famous stars is "Home of your own", but copyright law won't allow me to include it in my collection. Regards Terry
There's also a 'full-length' (55 mins) silent comedy from '65 called "San Ferry Ann" with an all-star cast. Rodney Bewes, Wilfred Bramble, Joan Sims, Ron Moody, Barbara Windsor, Brian Murphy and many more. Well worth the watch if you can find it. Used to be here on YT but seems to have been removed :(
Yes, I remember watching the original, and the UA-cam version. There is also a silent full length film called "Home of Your Home" with an All Star cast from the Past, which is very funny also, but when I Ist put it on YouTuBe it got taken down because of a Copyright breach! There might be extracts from it on UA-cam I don't know. Terry
To those of you who liked the 2 British Classic Comedy videos, have you also watched the Mike Harding one I uploaded some time ago, as I am sure you would really like that also, and especially as the story he relates is set at Xmas.

I just checked and it looks like Sykes may have made three versions of this. There was Sykes and a Plank for TV and a 1967 film and a 1979 film - this one.
Hi, I am looking for a short silent comedy I watched as a kid in the 1980s, with barely any dialogue. The song "she works hard for the money" by Donna Summer plays a couple of times in the background. I think it is British. I remember a woman with a small dog (perhaps a Yorkshire terrier with a big pink ribbon on the head) named Spider. "Spider" is the only word being said. In the beginning, the woman parks a convertible in an illegal place, next to a large police officer's sign/billboard. The police officer (I think wearing a brown/blue uniform) lives inside the sign and if you change something in the details of the sign, the police officer change with it. If you take his pants off the sign, in reality, he will have no pants. The woman leaves the dog in the car. The police officer comes to give her a ticket and sees the dog in the car. He tries to return the dog to the woman. I remember a couple of scenes: 1. There is a statue of Cupid in the park and every time someone holds an apple, the statue shoots an arrow, and everyone claps. 2. Someone repeatedly moves the clock hand on the TV. A mother repeatedly feeds her baby (because she relies on the clock on the TV) until he gets fat and becomes grown-up after a couple of scenes of feeding. The watchmaker constantly needs to change the time on all the clocks in his store until he got angry and broke all the clocks. Someone constantly needs to change the clock hand at the tower with a large pole, until the clock finally falls from the tower. 3. ATM hands out money. Literally, there is a hand coming out from the ATM that gives money. 4. Two men are moving a glass window in the street until it breaks. 5. Someone is run over/fell on him and he becomes flat (a poster of himself). 6. The police officer enters a TV studio where a video clip is filmed and does all sorts of nonsense in the studio. eventually, the dog was reunited with the woman.
I know this is supposed to be a British comedy classic, but it's so dated and completely unfunny and pathetic. What makes it worse, if that's possible. is the added on canned laughter in the background. YAWN - give me strength!
Brilliant ,thank you.
Far better than anything we have today !!!!
Spot the cast. So many all time greats. Unfortunately I am old enough to remember them in their hay day. Enjoyed the nostalgic trip.
Oh dear, we must be similar ages!
@@T0NYD1CK I’m afraid so. Visual comedy gone forever. All the best and a happy new year. Mick

I have never seen so many great actors in one film Mr H, brilliant.

I have seen this before many times, still makes me chuckle. It had loads of big names from the time in it.
Quality, back in the days when we were allowed to have fun.
So many comedy great in one place, amazing!
Wow, talk about star studded - what a blast from the past.
Very Best British Comedy ❤️❤️❤️❤️ 1:54
Starring, at 23:31, no less that the late, great James Hunt, World Formula One Drivers Champion 1976.
So many comic greats of comedy in the one film.
When I saw Frankie Howerd I knew it was the big time. But when I saw Lionel Blair I checked my watch.
such a roll of honour of the greats of the 70's. Often wondered if they relaised when signing up for it that it would become a classic in its time.
The very best of British comedy
This film is a must see before you die.
Brilliant
every person in it was a huge star at the time,no wonder im stuck in the 70s a great era to grow up in.

The British are masters of silent comedy going all the way back the Chaplin. I love how more and more characters end up in this movie.
The first film is shown on Swedish television every year. I think it's around New Years. Plankan. The plank.
To those of you who liked the 2 British Classic Comedy videos, have you also watched the Mike Harding one I uploaded some time ago, as I am sure you would really like that also, and especially as the story he relates is set at Xmas.

Thank you I've the plank on VHS but with Tommy Cooper
22:47 It's Purdey, isn't it??
CLASSIC STARS IN THIS DIFFERENT VERSION GREAT

Brilliant best comedy
They did the Plank with Tommy Cooper too 😂
22:14 Is that Henry Cooper?
Yes - Henry Cooper was in it as well as James Hunt the former F1 World Champion driving the Lorry.
Good comedy👍👍👍

This plank is the good version. I bought a dvd that was a crumby remake - not nearly as well done.
Was that really Joanna Lumley hitchhiking and being picked up by Harry Corbett?
Yes!
Better with the volume off to avoid the fake laughter.
Is this a different version of the “PLANK” as Tommy Cooper is in one of them😇

Sorry - I don't know that one, and if Donna Summer is singing on a background track, perhaps it's not British?
@@TenerifeTerry Thank you. Perhaps.
unreal
Shame about the canned laughter. Was that really on the original recording?
I love Pommy / British comedy,,,,,,, But this would be the worst!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Preferred the original Plank wit Tommy Cooper
The Plank is not a comedy.

I found it funny. But I agree that the canned laughter was awful.
