@kochimi t300 is defo the best in the price range but can become very expensive if you want to have the clutch pedal and the gear selector (the gear selector is hella expensive but damn is it nice to drive on)
@@lordpazo6784honestly I don’t think it’s a waste if you have a mouse to steer with because my mind weirdly can transfer the turning of the wheel to the mouse and it has helped me grow my irl steering wheel movement

This makes so much sense. It’s one of those obvious things that I knew deep down but neglected because the underlying understanding wasn’t there. Then I watch this and 🤯 I get it.
Totally agree and this concept could extend way beyond sim racing as well into other aspects of life “ you must be on the limit”
Yeah 👍 try driving a muscle car on track you get to the limit alot so it's a really good way to learn a lot about driving too

Saying the most agreed upon thing ever and hoping for interaction.
It's not even controversial if you think about it, you learn from mistakes, luckily, video games allow you to make plenty of them with no real consequence... well, unless you're racing in league XD
Agree 100%. Then from there learn to dial back the “overdriving”. Like you mention, it’s the beauty of a sim (no danger), and it also helps you learn how to save mistakes (correcting oversteer/understeer, missing brake points, too aggressive throttle application, slides, etc.) That being said, I’m not a professional driver. 🤷♂️
This is an absolute truth in all motor racing in real life. If you're not on the absolute limit where the car is trying to kill you then you're not going fast enough. You dont need to use all the track or all the corner and the only way you can find the limit is through experience. The only exception is that in real life there are obviously consequences for going over the limit (crashing, spinning out etc) and even under the limit (lose your seat).

Best advice you’ll ever hear. You’ll also learn the car more this way and that will help you notice the difference with small setup changes, giving those free extra tenths.
honestly the biggest improvement i’ve noticed from using the sim for the last couple of months is my steering inputs are so much smaller now, massively helps with understeer but i truly had no idea how much i was over steering
I heard the same thing a couple days ago from another coach. He was talking about karting and how the limit is the way to really learn and lose the fear of being on the limit.
I don't understand how that's not normal for everyone. I drive to improve and unless I'm in a race where I need to drive smart instead of hard, I go nuts in every corner and at some point you will learn how to pull it off every time
Its not, he just making things up to make some youtube videos.. nobody is "cruising" in online racing games.. never been,never will be.

Cruising does not have to be "driving at 30mph" kind of cruise. But instead, if you are taking a corner 10mph slower than someone else, you are basiclly cruising the corner.
This happens a lot.
Getting to know the car you are driving in the game with the tune you have, is the absolute best, otherwise you might be making a cruise out of the race, compared to what it could of been.
In the end, despite what your girlfriend might say, 1 second faster is a big improvement :)

this was something I'd figured out on my own, on a new track I'll do a couple cruise laps to get my bearings and then just start push lap after push lap, eventually dialing it back to an optimal place.
the other thing I'd suggest when practicing by yourself is running tyre and mechanical wear on along with any other race setting you're going to encounter in a race, practice sessions are astoundingly unhelpful when you turn tyre/mechanical wear, fuel consumption etc off as it will often leave you with huge gaps of knowledge about if your setup or driving style is actually effective throughout a stint or entire race.
I began playing car games when I was 3, I played driver sf, ford street racing1 and 2, need for speed most wanted 2005, need for speed hot pursuit 1 and 2 and many other games, I used to always try to go into a corner full speed without lifting and that taught me to use 100% of the road and hitting the apex to ensure I didn't hit a wall on the exit, then learned to brake just a bit sometimes to make the car turn, slowly over the years when I wanted to become serious I started learning about more techniques and now I just crush everyone on keyboard and controller at 16 on gt7 or any other game, waiting to finish highschool to buy a g29 setup and practice all college and then start my real life career
Another helpful thing I have learned too is use track markers. Like, some tracks have numbers going into a corner, or sometimes paint marks…but anyways - use those markers. If there is numbers, try breaking at the 4. Next lap, try at the 3! It is SUPER helpful!
This is true In every aspect of life as well youll never know the end result without pushing boundaries. You have to find the absolute edge to be successful you can’t just cruise and expect to succeed
This is exactly what I tell people as well. This channel is pretty much right on the money when it comes to coaching. For example, in Trackmania I have to remind people that the way the physics work in the game, you need to use the G forces to your advantage. They will make your car understeer but that's a good thing. You just need to find the absolute limit and drive right below that. If you drive slow, you learn nothing and you will always be a slower driver. The same applies to other racing games but then you also have to deal with oversteer, not just understeer.
Well this made a lot of sense as to why I preferred understeery cars. Being afraid of oversteer and spinning got me to learn trail braking more to counteract understeer. Now I need to do the same for oversteer.
Honestly this helped me a lot. I just started getting into cars and sim racing like 6 months ago. I feel fast and when I put a lap together it's usually really good but my consistency is terrible and it really kills my confidence. I never really thought that as a good thing but thinking about it like you put it I really feel like I'm improving or at least on the way to improving. Love your vids BTW!
I agree with the message of this video when the goal is to become faster. BUT, let’s also consider that driving safe and consistent is also a skill that needs to be developed.
Most newbies lack this one and that hinders their ability to progress.
I would say that driving over the limit in practice applies to those who can already be consistent.

Brilliantly said, spend a few years pushing to crashes and spins constantly until you get really quick, then focus on dialing in that consistentcy
This is the truth in every thing getting better at. If u rnt testing your limits i will never know what u can achieve.
This is what I did, I started out without traction control learning how to drift. I was terrible initially but I eventually got the knack for controlling the car on the edge. I have the most fun driving whilst in a slide, even if it’s not the fastest way around a track !

100%. You’ll never learn the limit unless you’re constantly pushing it further. And in order to be comfortable on that limit, you need to practice being on that limit and how to react to varying issues.
i feel like 10mins of advice is enough for anyone trying sim racing, especially if they watch motorsport already, then they probably know some basics about how to take the car around the track, setting up the cars is something you can go watch stuff for. The rest you'll figure out on track.
I can't tell you how many times in Sim or Arcade games I took practice and turned it into a demolition. You learn a lot about how and why your car handles a certain way under certain conditions when you try to go full speed into a chicane, or waiting well past your comfort zone to hit your brakes going into a hairpin, or as crazy as it seem going the wrong direction. Yeah, it's sim racing but it's still just a different way of saying realistic GAME. If you want to master anything, mistakes are required.

Same goes for kart racing. Start by pushing as hard as you can, getting a feel for its unique handling, and then begin dialing it back until youre at the very edge of adhesion.
My friend used to joke that I'm always spinning. Now I’m much faster because I brake later and accelerate more quickly. Only because I tried to push my limits while he wanted to maintain a steady pace.
I might try this in Assetto Corsa or maybe Project Cars as a controller player. Thanks for this advice
I would literally through a mx-5 cup car in iracing through certain corners to enhance the rotation and carry more speed with getting on the throttle early to get quicker lap times
Counter point , if you just full send every time you are just smashing your head agaisnt the wall and less likely to improve , if you work up to it its much more controllable and measured and more likely to end up with gains... from experience ive seen both work but personally i dont like the just send it till you get lucky approach, better to be good than lucky

Real. The amount of times also i try different lines. Even if they are slower, what ifff they happen to be quicker. Ive had cases where a different line in test/practice is quicker, and hekps during multiplayer alot
I push my limits at the track in real life so it’s 10x harder to tone it down on a sim 😂 I have too much fun feeling the g forces and wrangling the car to my will…so practicing on the sim forces me to focus on my technical abilities 💯
Welp, that's exactly what I'm doing. And that's also the reason why I get nothing done in F1 23 during training, because I constantly have to repair my car, lol
But hey, I was racing on a track I hate recently and I did not do well during training when pushing the car extremely hard. Pushed a little less during qualifying, got P2 by a very thin margin to P3, directly hinter my friend. Went on the soft compound for the race to build a gap to the cars behind and then go on a slower compound. Me and my friend were able to slightly break away from the rest of the grid and I was able to safely divebomb him in lap 2, taking P1 and pulling away like 2 seconds within 2 laps. When it was pitstop time I was about 4 seconds ahead of him. I went into the pits, got myself fresh medium tyres and came out of the pits in P13 or so. I hunted down and overtook various cars (and did one driver completely dirty in the process, making him look like a complete amateur compared to me with the way I overtook him), before everyone in front of me came into the pits themselves. My friend came out like 2 seconds behind me. He was on the softs by then and thought he could just catch up to me and take P1. Well, his plan didn't go as planned, since I somehow absolutely crushed him, driving at the same pace as him, before building up a 4 second gap again when his tyres started to fall off. The cars behind him actually caught up with him at that point and started to battle him, while I used that to completely pull away. I was about 8 seconds ahead at the end there, even building a gap when my tyres felt completely dead. I still don't understand how I did it, but it could have certainly been helped by me finding the limits during training.

So I just got my first wheel, a CAMMUS c5 and practiced a bit with this mentality, then logged a 5:11 on nordschleife with a F2004 with pen, damage, tyres
There's another huge benefit to pushing a car over the limit, you'll not only understand where the limit is, but you'll also learn how to better identify when you're at, or even pushing over the limit.
Sliding is a great example. In the real world, you can feel oversteer less through the wheel and more through your arse. You'll feel the car under you sliding, the rear stepping out. In a sim you can't feel this, it's all through the wheel. Which to start with, can feel very counter intuitive, especially if you come from driving irl.
So push your car, crash if you need to, remember, in sim, there's no repair bill
You can get things like buttkickers, basically a speaker under your arse, that simulate the sensations of losing grip, track surface etc. Not sure how good they are but want to try, also like the idea of vibration of motors on pedals to simulate similar things, as well as engine revs, In a real car it's these vibrations that are my sign for an optimal shift... I can't drive manual in a sim without that feedback.
@10aDowningStreet I've used a rig that had ass kickers (I'm not 100% sure on their actual name but yea, the speaker/subwoofer under your seat) and my opinion is, they add to the emersion of the car being alive, with the things like vibrations, but for the sense of the tyres losing grip just isn't there for me. If you've ever loss grip irl, you'll know its this weird sense of just gliding, imo they just don't replicate it.
The vibration thing on the brake though is amazing imo. I have one on my rig, and when using a car that doesn't have ABS, it can simulate that pulse when you lock up, which I love. Not tried any other "tactile" simulators on other pedals though.
Got roasted for crashing every lap in an open practice, hit the main race and got pole with a 3 second pace increase

As someone who Drives to the Limit in Real Life and kind of Bragging abit but Im usually always the fastest Guy in freeway and canyon Runs in Car Groups I started getting bored so I started Sim Racing in GT7 like 2 Months ago and I have problem oversteering and Understeering in the Game I can't get the Hang of the Pedals ,wheel and the car like I would in Real Life. I feel like I can't be as precise as I want to but I like the Challenge. Trying to improve in Sim and I am but quite inconsistent some days cause I only play once or 2x a week
Maybe you have a problem visualising your surroundings and get a feel of the car like you would in real life. In real life you have feel g forces, and as Niki lauda says, you feel the car with your ass. You can't feel sith your ass on a sim

i just played 3 GT7 manufactures cup races and goddamn i suck. the first 2 races, i was half a minute off pace. But then third race? I was 1 MINUTE off pace BUT. WHEN I DIDN'T SPIN, I FASTER THAN EVERYONE ON EVERY SINGLE CORNER!!!
still came last tho... but a bit more and i mastered nurburgring for sure

I'd agree with that. It was the same when I played competitive golf. I learned how to hit the ball 300 yards before I learned how to have a good short game and putting!
At first I would go out and hit 13, 14, 15 greens in regulation and still shoot 80 from 3 putting 5 or 6 times a round!
Then I spent a winter with a putting mat inside my house putting 5 foot putts hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of times in a row until it became automatic! It was then and only then I reached my full potential!
How ever learning how to smash the driver or my 1 iron first helped me hit many par 5's in 2. Then learning how to make the puts helped me score low.
I went from a inconsistent highschool player to leading my college team to a 18-1 season. Winning the conference championship and taking low medalist as a true freshman!
All the other kids who learned short game first struggled when we got to the longer 7000+ yard courses . Meanwhile for me it didn't make a difference. Not only did I have a big advantage on the longer courses but I would routinely hit 7, 8 iron into Par 5s on the shorter courses!
Then I suffered shoulder, wrist and back injuries 🫥🤕😵 and was forced to play the game a different way. Learning how to maximize my short game to score low.
I always told kids to go out to the driving range and swing hard! Learn to hit the ball far first, then learn how to control it. It's almost impossible to take a control player and make them a big hitter, but it's easy to take a big hitter and teach them control

I’ve won a few trophies in real car racing. This is the main issue I see with drivers. People care more about doing it right than doing it fast and they leave so much time on the track. You need to be on the cusp of losing control. If you aren’t fighting under and over steer then you are not trying hard enough. Keep in mind I’m talking about setting raw time, enduro is a different beast entirely where conserving the car is equally important.
That's exactement why I leave Iracing for a karting, I was tired to race with people who don't understand that. And i had no patience to go over 3600 irating 😅

How to prevent understeer
Brake later (tweak your braking point untill you're perfectly braking into the corner and be able to press the throttle right at the exit)

There is real-life GT racer who used to have fun in simracing, over-driving while going FAST - Nicki Thiim, check his videos.
the major problem is not even that. Is that you don't really know if you're a great driver or not if you don't have the correct car settings. The car oversteering could be not your fault, the same for the understeering. And even if you have great skill on wheels, on sim racing if you don't know how to setup your car, then it's wasted.

It looks like drifting because it is drifting. Except you want to only be just on the edge between full traction and drifting. Aka the limit.

How do I combat the spin outs in iracing? I’m in rookie and new but I feel like every time I try to push the car to the limit I just spin during a turn.

the best way to find the limit is to immediately go beyond it on the first lap, instead of using up 5~10 laps creeping up to it.

Thats the only way to be a racer you need to be able to brake late which will always make you oversteer or understeer
