primer bubl has check valve so fuel cannot return to fuel tank... soft primer bulb indicates theres is a suction restriction between the primer bulb and fuel tank. sometimes the primer bulb check valve sticks or there is crud in the fuel tank partially plugging fuel line or a crim in the line.. either way it indicates a restriction ..
So I have a mercury OptiMax 200. I cleaned out the pumps, put it back on and now when I squeeze the bulb gas comes out of the vapor pipe up the tube and shoots on the ground. Do you think it’s a float or the pin that’s supposed to cover the hole that’s the problem?
@@TheMarineDoctor so I believe I got the vapor canister now to work but now I don’t know if I have a collapsed hose going to the rail because when I go to start it up, I push the valve stem on the rail to let air out and a bunch of air shoots out as I’m trying to fire it up. Finally, when gas does come out, I let go and it sputters and quits.
@@TheMarineDoctor Actually if i fill it normally then it spits back up and overflows so i have to fill it extra slow, so it could be the breather hose? Would a breather hose issue cause the primer to get sucked thin by lack of air to the fuel tank? or would this be a second issue.
Got a 2000 Johnson 175 I’ve replaced the fuel like and primer bulb it primes up then after like 3 mins it’s back soft again? Would my leak be at the motor or tank? Any ideas would help me tremendously. TIA
Primer bulbs now come with a notice on the package that overtime....fuel will run back. Is it 3 min. Not likely. If there are no noticable leaks I suspect the antisyphon valve on the tank has failed.
I've got a similar problem. My engine primes up and will idle, when I run it for a few minutes in gear and running up the lake, it loses prime. I can keep priming it and after about 15 minutes of running, it will stay primed all day. I've checked fuel pressure according to the service manual. I've used a clear fuel line to check for air. I now believe the air is getting in from the tank side of the primer bulb. I can't figure it out. Now you've made me think it's the floats somehow. @@TheMarineDoctor
did you get you problem figured out? I'm (figuratively) in the same boat. I'm not sure if I have a air leak from the tank to the primer bulb or if it's something else.

So, was the issue from those zip ties? Thanks

Your needle is not closing properly. Might be an adjustment or needs a new needle and float.
@@TheMarineDoctor I got that all set up and it’s working now the problem is the motor won’t fire up. Ehhh
@@ericelmer5289 verify fuel pressure and spark.

@@ericelmer5289 Are they new pumps? Any cracks in the seals where the pumps connect to their ports? Verify air pressure?
my motor runs 2min then the primer gets sucked thin like a pancake, the moter runs out of fuel, so strange.
There is an obstruction between the bulb an the tank.
@@TheMarineDoctor ok i thought it might be the breather hose.
@@AussieRic Onboard fuel tank. Normslly if its the breather hose there will be issues filling the tank too.
