keep watching the lesson videos and play as much as possible!! Ive platyed since i was about 13, and im 38 now... Im ok. I reckon. I also learned to play drums fairly well via some of my old bands drummers teaching me some basics, and then coming on youtube and studying like hell and practicing the lessons i found... Man.. I wish Ide had UA-cam when i was a kid.. Id be a damn Physisist by now with all the various shit I have learned just watching videos on here ..lol. Rock on bro! And no matter how good you are, or good you get... Remember... Music is about making art.. It isnt a competition, or a contest or a way to show off ( altho... it kinda gets turned into all that more often than not.. lol sadly..) I find so many Metal Guys get into the technical aspects as though its a competition with other guitarsist/drummers.. etc... But then they end up all sounding like a buncha guys who are just trying to sound badass, instead of make people feel things... I love music because it gave me a way to just sit down, and let shit come out of me through the sounds I could make my guitar make... be it simple as fuck, or noodling like a maniac... Always remember that even someone who has only played foer like.. 1 year.. can write a song that becomes legendary. Its just gotta make people feel what you were trying to feel... Like a sonic Painting... Get all Bob Ross, and paint some Happy Lil Tree's... On fire if you like!!! But be all Bob Ross in the way that he painted to make scenes of the images and feelings in his mind... For himself... Andother people to if they cared to look... if they didnt. Fuck em... It was for Bobby-Ross!
Rock on brother and keep jammin, cause this shits fun as fuck!

I play in drop B about 60% of my songs, awsome tuning. What I like to do is economy pick the 2 B Strings. But instead of the open low B, I will fret the same notes on both strings and just economy pick. about 15% of my Drop B tuned songs are written this way.

Standard E tuning is still my favorite and most used tuning! I think im the only metalhead out theres whos under 30 years old and prefers standard tuning. I only use Standard, drop D,D and drop C. But I use standard probably 90% of the time. OLDSCHOOL FOR LIFE! As the comment below says, its about playing, not seeing how low you can go.

I recommend D'Addario EXL148 (.12-.60) or heavier. Ernie Ball Not Even Slinky might do it (that's .12-.56), but it's a bit too lose for my taste.

@AllOfUsLoveSpam To be honest if your going to drop B I'd use 12's. they feel perfect for tensions and everything. But its about preference. 11's to me would be like Drop Db or Eb. Maybe drop C.

I'm starting a support group for bassists who play with guitarists who use alternate tunings.
Nothing worse than turning up to a first practice and one of the guitarists is using some bizzare tuning that sounds great in his bedroom but no one else can play with him.

  • @Malice197

If you're in standard tuning, it will be two
Octaves lower than the b (second highest pitch) string. Alternatively, you can use the third fret of th d string (fourth string, if going in descending order) to put the low e string into drop c, then again for drop b.
