I never get sick of these old SP albums. I will be listening until I'm dead. I wish more bands were like them, without blatantly ripping them off. I wish they had more albums like the ones from the 80s and 90s
To be fair puppy "ripped off" a shit ton of horror movie audio, among other things. But, I agree with your sentiment. I'm still listening and I'm 49. No one I've ever spoken to seems to realize they are an 80's band, it's like I had a whole alternate universe experience growing up. They were in their prime at the same time as stuff like Metallica, or if you wanted to be mainstream, Michael Jackson or Madonna. Thats the beauty of the 80's, everything was happening all at once in the same decade for every flavor or taste of music you could imagine. The world will never be the same.
Android Lust rarely gets a live show that captures what an amazing musician she is. Her cover of warlock is good, but she is one of the few that doesn’t sound like she wishes she’d entered the scene a couple decades earlier.
I gave my son the cassette when he went away to college in 2012... was only a few weeks after my Beloved Mum passed away. He is 28 years now and still has it..
Oh man. I ain't the most empathetic character in the world fer sure. I have had some pain in my life. Died. Even Discovered my Older bro's Suicide. Lost my Daughter. 2 Wives. Play very loud or not at all ! I remember taking this record everywhere in an attemt to find the loudest stereo to play it...must have been in the mid 80's. Not many bands ever made it to copy this dark industrial sound, voices and samples from different horror movies.. The healthy and critical messages are often not heard, or misunderstood. Once they were arrested on stage for cruelty against animals, slicing open a dog cadavre - the irony being this was a protest against animal experiments..
I was a super fan following them around in Florida. I had forgotten about all of that so thanks for the memories. The two Kevins were so accessible to their fans back then. I was in love with Ogre after hanging out backstage and at after parties with him a couple of years in a row at several Florida gigs. I still have some handwritten lyrics from him. Good times
I’ve listened to alot of Trent and nin, never knowing skinny puppy existed. Man he owes his entire career to these fellas. I’m not denying Trent’s talents but come on dude..,
Down In It’s only match to this song is the guitar. Listen to Dead Lines, that song is a lot closer to Down In It, but it still stands on its own as it’s own, all be it similar song.

I didn't discover skinny puppy until I saw an interview of Nikki Sixx from motley crue in the late 80's say that Skinny Puppy was one of his favorite bands
Like the NIN song? You're right, They're super duper similar! Of course he took inspiration from SP, NIN is very industrial inspired in lots of ways. That's one of the reasons I like it
Trent Reznor, Nivek Ogre, and Al Jourgenson used to be really tight back in the late 80s and early 90s. I'm pretty sure Ogre did some Revolting Cocks concerts along with Al and Trent. I know for a fact Ogre did shows with Ministry (the Ministry cover of Smothered Hope with Ogre singing is proof of that). I know Trent did shows with Revco because he was on tour with them for the Beers, Steers, and Queers tour (which was a great show... Saw them at the Stone Rose in San Francisco).
eh, there's a big difference between copying something and being heavily inspired by something, and also the finished result depends totally on the creativity and talent of the copier, as Reznor for the most part evolved the things he was inspired by so completely it became something totally new, where as some other bands only have copied the superficial sounds of certain types of music but basically are just copy-pasted lazy remixes. as far as I know of the only real issues any of the wax trax scene had between them and Trent was solely because of a misunderstanding over Trent using the song "Suck" on his ep Broken, as it originated as a Pigface song, as I guess he forgot to totally secure permission or something as it was a song that many people worked on together, although that all got cleared up. if there was anything else they had issues with like personal beefs or wtf-ever, then I haven't heard about it nor do I give a shit about personal drama, and it seems they don't really either as they don't seem the types to broadcast personal shit for media attention, which is awesome. cheers
Trent's all right. We share a Birthday May 17. But fer real. None of these guys would be anywhere if not fer Paul Anka. You know I'm right. No? Fine. I win.
Skinny Puppy's music was used to torture prisoners at Guantanamo Bay prisons, the band revealed to Phoenix New Times in an interview, I find the use of music for torture to be extremely unethical, and I am not surprised that Skinny Puppy was used, it is not pleasant listening, to me, and I find the lyrics deliberately difficult to interpret however it is hard not to find this music unambiguously malicious and sadistic
@@teddybears4life240 obviously you missed the point. My take is how much of the Hip Hop genr rips off Classic industrial beats, and thus not should be recognized. Hip Hop beat is industrial.

No but I'll check them out! Thanks :)
Well said
I agree with every word you said -- I saw them once at Cabaret Metro in Chicago, VIVIsectVI tour, they were SO COOL

30 years later still sound very good.
The Gregorian chants was years ahead of its time. I loved the 808 sound and how juxtaposed it was from 80s pop and hiphop.
I have vivid memories of going to the record store and buying this album and listening the HELL out of it, LOL No other decade had such creativity!!!!

Trent HAS NOT DENIED THEIR INFLUENCE ON HIM. BUT HIS BIGGER influences are throbbing gristle, david bowie, gary numan and peter murphy.
❤
@@teddybears4life240 Reznors biggest influence was his trust fund.... Down In It COMPLETELY rips this songs hook

HOLY SHIT!!! Trent Reznor TOTALLY RIPPED THIS OFF for the music video (as well as the sound of the song) for "Down In It"!!!!
Down in it was inspired of Dig IT

It contains an interpolation of, says in the album liner notes!

And even more blatantly, Trent used this song's drumbeat & two-note guitar riff in "Terrible Lie"
The best version.
The samples at around 2:00 are from a Twilight Zone episode.
We Love You Yppup
Dig it as an offering, Economic Slave.
Nice! I accidentally played this through on 1.75x speed ..
This band & Ministry are where NIN '$ TR gets his nicked material 4R 4R!❄️🌎❄️😶❄️
Absolutely love this song. I have no idea what's going on in this video, though!
