  • Simply tying a brown bag over your pomegranates, while they are still green, protects your fruit from birds and rodents. :) This tip comes from my sister-in-law, Mary!

Organza bags are prettier and easier to attach. I don't find that the organza bags are any less protective than the paper bags.

Organza bags also last through the rain and they do allow a bit of light and air through. I want to buy the black colored bags next year and decorate them with stick on googly eyes. My yard will already be decorated for Halloween, since about the time my Pomegranates start to need covered it's Halloween time.

Doesn't the growing fruit need sunlight to ripen? If so, won't the bag keep sunlight from reaching the fruit?

Melody, did that bag method end up working for you? Thanks.

Jason Spitzer Hi Jason! It didn’t work as well for us as it did for my sister in law! The bags get old and need to be replaced periodically! Honestly, this year, we let the birds eat the pomegranates!! But, if you are diligent, it really does work! Best of luck!!! :)

Hi Evan! That is a really good question! In Phoenix, there isn't much rain while they are ripening. When there is, the bags get a little tweeked. You just have to tape the rips and sometimes replace a bag. But overall, they last a couple of months, or less if there is a lot of rain. Sure hope it helps! Have a happy week and thank you for the question! :)
