Honda CB1100 Oil Change

- I made this video for a person buying this bike and thought others might learn something, or at least get a kick out of my idiosyncrasies. It's also a good closeup for someone interested in the CB1100. While the 2013 owner's manual states a recommended oil change interval of 4,000 miles (or one year), later model years of this bike (with no engine changes) have a recommended oil change interval of 8,000 miles! I suspect that this is more about Honda being market competitive than anything else. I did do an oil analysis on a recent 4,000 mile oil change with the oil type shown in this video, and Blackstone Laboratories reported very low wear material and good life remaining in the oil - suggested I try a 6,000 mile interval next time, but I don't put that many miles on this bike per year. This is a 2013 Honda CB1100 motorcycle oil and filter change/service video.

Brand new 2013 CB1100 owner here. Got the oil changed successfully on my bike today, and your video was extremely helpful. You are right, the "leaning motorcycle both ways" got some more oil out that didn't come out in the initial drain. Thank you for this video!

Thank you I have a 2017 cb1100ex and just getting ready for its first oil change. I bought it with 4700 miles from a great dealer , they serviced with everything and new dunlops I now have 6400 miles.

Your bikes always look like they just came from the showroom! I finally had time to watch the Honda video all the way thru. I noticed the Monster in the background of a couple of shots. Nice touch! This video shows a lot of thoughtful staging, concise narrative and clear instructions. Obviously the difference between an Educator and some guy in his garage. You really checked all the boxes here. My owners manual specifies either 10W-30 or 10W-40 oil for the engine. So if I lived in a cooler climate I would run the 30. But I live near the desert and it regularly gets over 100F in the summer so I run 40.

I don't understand; you had the bike on center mount on timber plank (you can see it here at time 1:18) and afterward when you went on to lean the bike, it was on the side stand?

Hey, question if just over the required oil lvl in motor will it cause the check engine light to come on?
Nope.
@@scotcopeland8752 it did! I drained and replaced the filter and 4.1 qts oil and the high pressure sensor went out, my Honda dealer said that does happen.

That's a very good deal. I paid 5,000 for mine used with way more miles than that one. It's been a terrific bike.
The CB1100 is a wonderful bike. A big, very solid UJM.

It's here with me. In fact, I just did a similarly anal oil change on it. I was very impressed by both the lack of debris on the drain plug magnet and the oil filter when I dissected it. I recorded a bunch of video. Hopefully I'll put up another video soon.

did you change the exhoust? as far as i know cb 1100 has two side exhoust, left and right...
The 2013 model, as this is, came stock with 4 into 1 exhaust.
Hay there zack mine is 2010 model and was only a 4 into 1 muffler, it was only a 5 speed compared to the latter models that were 4 into 2 exhaust and 6 speed box. But they are a fantastic bike, still have mine and won't be selling it as long as I can ride 😊 cheers mate andy from Australia
Hi, is 10 40 normal for Los Angeles? I filled it yesterday, will there be any problems?
10W-40 is a good choice for LA's climate!

@@svenmars106 Both 10W-30 and 10W-40 have the same cold weather viscosity. It's the larger number on the upper end that will support higher summer temps
