      It’s crazy how slow Bol Bol improves. As someone who watched Bol Bol on the Magic, he’s just bad when he was on the floor. People hating him also need to understand that he was a low second round pick with a ceiling of being a good role player which matches everything he’s shown so far

    Lol, Bol Bol ran into both players, feet moving and bumped them. The last example of applying Durant's teaching Bol still had his right hand on the hip. At his height hands up and out covers more space and may affect the shot, or keeping close enough at his height the chance of a block is high. Can't wait to see this kid develop. He has so much enthusiasm, determination and potential.

    • @cptfwiffo
      @cptfwiffo 6 місяців тому +4

      Yeah. He ran into both players, drawing fouls *and not understanding what he did wrong*. He may have enthusiasm, determination, and potential, but held back by introspection and intelligence. This is 5 years of professional basketbal and he still doesn't know he needs to slide instead of turn his hips and lose his defensive position.

    • @DetroitTyler
      @DetroitTyler 6 місяців тому +2

      What he needs to do is learning to contact partially with the hips and not drop his hands below his waist in the paint. They should be ready to explode upwards, as it's much easier to maneuver around an opponents fully extended arms. If he likes to hand one arm lower perhaps he could hover an arm/hand over a players point of release and threaten there while having 1 hand up. Dude looks like a novice out there.

    • @nicketosaunders7653
      @nicketosaunders7653 6 місяців тому +1

      That was exactly what I was saying...He's still hand checking on defense immediately after KD showed and told him the issue is....Old habits die hard I guess!

    • @hakshustletv
      @hakshustletv 6 місяців тому +1

      @@cptfwiffo The issue was he would initiate contact using his body instead of just going straight up. People love talking about handchecking but that made playing defense easier. It's much tougher to play defense and takes more skill today because you need to rely on footwork, agility, IQ to use your body to send a defender a specific way and also remember to never jump towards or away from your man, always go straight up and only extend your hand towards the offense if you're sure you won't make contact with your body, arm or hand as a result as extending your arm can also alter the position of your body in the air. It's why Tim Duncan is easily the greatest big man defender and arguably the best defender ever.

    People keep talking about hype and all that but it is these defensive iq issues plus his highlight hunting in his first years that had coaches benching him. He needed to resolve both of those, and that takes investment on both the organization and him. Thankfully, the bumping around on teams has tempered his ego for the most part, but that left the iq part, which I feel the nba teams dropped the ball on. Everybody expects a ready made freak nowadays (like a Wemby or Chet) and are too impatient to teach the kid fundamentals. KD is doing just that and I hope Bol continues to soak up all of that advice, even after KD retires.

    Three things where Bol went wrong in his 🏀's career:
    1. Too many HS
    2. Bad college choice
    3. Came out too early
    And his pro career is more of the same.
    Dude has never had stability to learn the basic fundamentals!
    And KD is tryna teach him now in 'ole boys' 6th campaign!
    By the time he gets it, his body and confidence is gonna be shot!
    Shoulda stay in 1 program for more than 1 year!
    This is a perfect case study for the younger phenoms to live by!

    How Bol Bol hasn't properly developed into a mega star is beyond me. From what I keep seeing, the discipline has not been there, but I see this guy with tremendous upside. Like a Giannis / Durant type potential. He just doesn't seem to get the opportunity, and Durant can only correct him so many times, as he himself is working continuously to make the team get somewhere. But potentially, Bol Bol can be a dominating force - excluding behavioural issues we don't know about.

    He most likely told him to go straight up. Kobe and Tim Duncan talked about it over a decade ago, it's why Spurs was arguably the best defensive team over the course of 10-15yrs. When you contest a shot, never jump towards or away from the defender. Always go straight up, even if it results in contact it'll either be an offensive foul or a clean contested shot as long as you go straight up with your hands and don't move towards your man. If you study Tim Duncans defense, he did an incredible job at always just going straight up that's why he's arguably the greatest defensive player of all time especially statistically. Bigs nowadays are more athletic so they want that block and want to deny everything in the paint especially from smaller players but that's how you get into foul trouble.

      Everybody gets coached. Most NBA players don’t box/block out. You learn this at 8 years old. This why so many put backs happen.

      And people still talking about he has potential to unlock. He’s not good at center and IS NOT NEEDED TO BE A DRIBBLER. Get in the paint on both offence and defence.

    he lowers down his arms to waist instead of up or wide which makes him too late in contesting shots. And too slow on his lateral movements often giving baseline attack and not closing out. Most of the time using his side hip to bump the offensive player instead of being at the front. Check out Wemby and Chet on their defensive stance.

    I should know better than to hype Bol Bol up, but the fact that he was able to be coached into improvement mid game is very promising. This is something that would have gotten me out of d2.

    Most of these new ballers have very little fundamentals. They never develop from college they opt out for the pros. That's why I respect and really like Jaques Jr he looks like a vet because he has great fundamentals.

    My big reservation about KD is I'm afraid he doesn't bond personality with other players or staff or the organization, and so he doesn't effectively lead. So it's good to see him mentor a guy.
