  • This chemistry video provides a basic introduction into solubility and how compounds dissolve in water. It discusses how water separates sodium cations from chloride anions in a sodium chloride crystal when placed in liquid water. This video discusses the difference between a solute, solvent and a solution. This tutorial also discusses the difference between strong electrolytes, weak electrolytes and nonelectrolytes.

    This video on solubility explains really well and in great detail how solubility works. I think my favourite part was to hear the explanation of how rising temperature also increases dissolution and also increases solubility. It helps to know that these variables are all correlated. Great video to watch if you want to understand solubility better.

    you always explain these concepts so well. I am trying to learns much as I can to prep for my MCAT even though I am a freshman in college, I am trying to get ahead on these basic things I missed out on learning due to my high school performance. I just want to thank you for these videos for helping people like me trying to get ahead in school so when new topics/concepts come up I am not completely lost.

    why sodium chloride is more soluble than barium chloride? in terms of solute to solute interaction

    • @MrChAcHa96
      @MrChAcHa96 3 роки тому

      Because NaCl has a higher lattice energy than BaCl

    • @jessiechen125
      @jessiechen125 Рік тому +1

      @@MrChAcHa96 actually no, that would make it LESS soluble than BaCl2. Higher lattice energy means it's harder to break apart the ions, and so less ions dissolve. i think maybe the reasoning is that BaCl2 is a larger molecule than NaCl, so the distance between charges is greater and the lattice energy is actually weaker.
      IK its been like 2 years, just wanted to clear this up for anyone who might have this same question

    Hey man,
    You said that each sucrose molecule has 12 atoms of carbon, 22 atoms of hydrogen, and 11 atoms of oxygen. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think what you meant to say that they have 12, 22, and 11 moles of each element, in the molecule. The amount of atoms in each element is Avagadro's #, which is 6.02 x 10(to the 23). A whole lot of atoms. I'm still learning this stuff too, but I just wanted to put it out there so people don't think that there are 45 atoms in one molecule of sugar...... unless I'm totally wrong!!!!
    and your vids are great!!

    • @ziadabdelfattah1673
      @ziadabdelfattah1673 5 років тому +4

      No, the number of atoms in a molecule isn't equal to Avogadro's number. In this particular case, 1 mole of sucrose would have Avogadro's number atoms, while 1 molecule of sucrose would have 12 atoms of carbon, 22 atoms of hydrogen, and 11 atoms of oxygen.

    Why is it NaCl +H20 in the solution and not Na+Cl +H20? I just don’t understand why it’s still sodium chloride in water when the NaCl molecule has been pulled apart into two separate atoms.

    • @tashfeen_9728
      @tashfeen_9728 9 місяців тому +1

      Na+Cl means NaCl which is table salt.
      Here he used "NaCl+H20" because the solution means solute and solvent simply. So, NaCl means Na+Cl and since it's a molecule you have to write it as NaCl
