It was so good that they won their first Grammy for it. Kevin wasn't wearing the contacts because he had a problem, a reaction to them, so he went for the cool goggle shades instead.
I am so glad that someone else believes like me. I am 69 years old, and I have heard a lot of great artists in my lifetime, but I honestly believe that there has NEVER been a group as talented as Pentatonix! Like you said, if there is, prove it to me:)
I am an unapologetic Pentaholic and I’m thrilled to see a reactor with the courage to state the obvious. Pentatonix is the best and every other group trying to mimic them are just pale imitations. Pentatonix revolutionized a cappella music in 2011 and paved the way for the newer groups like Home Free and Voice Play. But PTX is still the best. Keep up the good work!!
Mitch is so energetic and happy in this video. Kevin kills it. And Avi (my fave) rocking the cornrows and contacts. He's smizing, smiling, the bedroom eyes and his voice.... lord help me!
In the groups Mitch is just tops in his range. Voiceplay, Homefree, and others are great and i love all the groups, but while others in the other groups i think are better in their areas, no one compares to Mitch.
If you wanna check out any of their originals, check out Love Again, it’s similar to this video. Kevin couldn’t handle the contacts so he wore the futuristic glasses. Also, Avi’s eyes were red because of the contacts.
With your level of obsession at this point you would really enjoy going back to the beginning and watching the Sing Off performance. Avi and Kevin were added to the group to audition for the show. ❤️❤️❤️ Kevin and Avi, the meat and potatoes of the group ❤️
What do you get when you combine a song with no lyrics with a group with no instruments? a) What is Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy by Ptx? b) What is a grammy?
When Avi does Television, if you listen hard you can hear Kirstie sing Around the World. Also, when Kirstie does her solo, the slight curl of her lip, my first thought was, "Oh God, whoever she is singing to is getting more than he can handle." Kevin couldn't wear the contacts, thus the visor. Scott said they spent @$500 to make this video, recorded in the closet and filmed it in Kevin and Avi's (housemates at the time) kitchen. The result was their first of three Grammy's
Holy shit! I’ve watched and listened to this song a million times since they won the Grammy, every time I’m focusing on someone else..... and yet I’ve never heard Around the World from Kirstie in the background! 😱😱😱
When, toward the end, you commented on Avi's low voice, I burst into tears. I never hear the overwhelm I feel when Kevin does his fast beatboxing on the right side of the screen which sends me into another dimension. Not a criticism, just feeling Kevin.
To me, that ‘piece’ that puts them into another level is the ‘invisible’ Ben Bram, their 6th member who assists with arrangements, producing, and editing. He won the Grammy along with them for this video - shot in a kitchen, recorded in a closet. And the contacts bothered Kevin’s eyes too much. You can see how Avi’s eyes are all red from them.
Know what? Scott has been working with kids ages 8 to 16 (?) & teaching them the joys of PTX type A Capella! Their videos are on UA-cam & they're amazing! Kevin also works with the beat boxers for the groups! They're called AcaPop Kids! Check them out - You'll love them!
I like how their three Grammys were for what you just described, for a song with no lyrics by an a capella group, and for a song with a featured singer where they play backup crew, effectively, while the featured singer sings lead on her own massive hit.
Say Something by A great big world and Christina Aguilera, is also a great cover from PTX. Kevin also plays the cello in the song, and he also sings in it.
In a way, you're right about the group. Scott, Kirstie and Mitch went to school together. (Imagine being their HS Choir teacher.) But when they wanted to go pro, they knew that they were still incomplete, so they sought out Avi as a basso profundo. And then, they recruited Kevin, who was just back from teaching Celloboxing in China. He joined the group only a day before their first appearance on the TV contest.
The 3 of them were going to do The Sing-Off competition as a trio, but found out the minimum group requirement was 5 members so they had to find at least 2 more people to be on the show. They knew they were missing a beatboxer and a bass, so that's why they branched out. They found Avi through a mutual friend and Kevin from when Scott searched for a beatboxer on UA-cam.
Actually, it wasn't so much that they felt incomplete. The fact is the contest show they wanted to audition for had a rule requiring a minimum of five members. Ben Bram, who was then a producer on SingOff, found Avi for them. Scott saw a UA-cam video of Kevin playing cello and beatboxing, and they extended the invitation to him to be the fifth. According to him, he wasn't immediately certain he wanted to. It took him a whole ten seconds to decide. As it happened, he arrived at the studio where they were filming on the morning of their first appearance. Just a little clarification.
@@heinleinreaderYes. I didn't say that they Felt incomplete. I said that they Knew they were still incomplete (per the Sing-off rules). Just trying to say things in a simple way. So technically, my verbiage itself was incomplete.
@@DougRayPhillips That's all I was saying was that the inaccuracies in that regard may have confused others, so I felt a need to ensure that the record was corrected. No offense was intended.
Kevin couldn't wear the contacts at all, so they let him have the glasses instead. Avi struggled too - even in the video you can see how red his poor eyes are. If you liked this one, I think you'd love their original song 'Love Again' - similar EDM-vibe, but taken to a level even above this one. 😎
Scott and Mitch have their own songs under the name Superfruit. Check out their song Guy.exe. i think you would still listen to them without Kevin and Avi. Also check out PTX's cover of You're a Mean one Mr. Grinch. Matt does a great job with the lead.
One of the best (and funniest) things Scott and Mitch used to do with SUPERFRUIT was a lot of play-acting and sort of having fun with musical theater. If you want a good laugh, you should check out SUPERFRUIT's renditions of Defying Gravity and their Frozen Medley, which Kirstin joined them for. So good.
No, there is no group out there like Pentatonix and don't let anyone tell you otherwise!! They are magical! Love your reactions, I can't wait to see more!!
Great reaction! You should definitely react to "Love Again"! Similar in style and I think it will ABSOLUTELY blow your mind. Avi is also in it if you needed any more reason!
Halleluiah is probably my favorite. It is like trying to pick your favorite child. My close second favorite is their original song titled 'Sing' I refer to it as a song of joy.
If you like this, you should check out “Love Again” an original written by Kevin and Avi. You finish the video trying to collect the pieces of your head because they blew your mind! It’s my favorite ( if one can have a favorite ) because of Avi’s part. I guarantee you’ll love it!.
Thank you, thank you for keeping it going with PTX. I have a couple more of PTX that I'd like to see you react to. They did a cover of "Can't hold us" originally by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, they also did a song called "Love again" and since we are getting closer to Christmas you might enjoy their cover of "Silent Night" and it looks like they are at a church when they do this one. There is no beatboxing or music at all.....Just them and their voices and it's heavenly and so soothing. Definitely a must listen to and react. Btw, I picked these 3 because of how much I know you love Avi. Oh, I can't remember if I mentioned this in any of my other comments I have made to you. But, Kevin the beatboxer has some solo stuff that he has done that is absolutely fantastic. To name a few...He did a cover of "Sign of the times" originally by Harry Styles, he did a cover of "As long as you love me" originally by the Backstreet Boys and he also covered a song called "Down" originally by Marian Hill. These are a must to check out and react to . Kevin is an amazing multi-talented human being. The man can play multiple instruments including the Cello. As a matter of fact, in his cover of "Down" he literally makes his Cello sound like an electric guitar...Unbelievable!!! Oh, did I mention he puts all the music together right there on the spot with each of these songs. Please check is solo stuff out you will be super amazed with all he can do. One more thing....you should also check out PTX's "Evolution of Michael Jackson"....Avi is in this one as well. Thanks again for this reaction and I can't wait to see what you have for us next. Hopefully, it's something I've recommended... 😋 Take care and be safe as always. 😀✌
This was recorded in 2013. They recorded it themselves in Avi's closet and did their own video in Avi's kitchen for a total production cost of $400. It got them a Grammy and a recording contract.
You probably know that Pentatonix came together for a TV acapella competition called The Sing Off. One of the judges described Avi and Kevin as the "meat and potatoes" of the group. Quite rightly.
Voiceplay is indeed from Orlando, started off singing while walking around Disney World. I am not 100% but they still may do this. This is why they do a lot of Disney songs.
Love your finger snap! Great reaction. They won Grammy for this...insane talent! Also, Avi and Kevin lay a crazy beat on this... they rock! As you get more into the other groups, Home Free’s beat boxer is a world champion; HE is insanely good also. I think each of the top groups offer different things but are all so good. I goto PTX, Home Free, and VoicePlay for different moods but as you experience them, they each have their genius. I will say for bass VoicePlay Geoff ... for his range, and Tim ... I don’t know, they are so good I don’t want to make you mad by saying better than Avi....but... Avi’s warm tone is unique and his spirit connects through his music. Some good music out there to watch!
For fun try Homefree's Ring of Fire featuring Avi Kaplan. The 3 big a cappella groups bass singers dislike it when they are pitted against each other by fans. Their bands have quite different musical nitches. Tim Foust (Homefree's bass) arranged the song for 2 basses and then invited Avi over to sing it with them 🙂 As for personal preference Avi has the most appealing timbre and camera presence (developed for opera which is where he was headed when Pentatonix came up according to one of their patreon live casts) which is what draws people to him and he is usually singing bass in chest voice giving him an amazing amount of power compared to a growl or subharmonic techniques to reach those low notes. And he can go all the way up to a low tenor in his upper register. (See Pentatonix Silent Night or I Need Your Love or quite a bit of his solo stuff where he will release an alternative version in either a higher or lower voice to see which carries the emotions of the song best) Geoff Castelluci of Voiceplay says he is a baritone singing bass so for purists he might be out although real basses are so rare baritones do usually sing the bass part in most musical groups, bands and choirs. Tim Foust has a crazy range almost I would say like Dimash although I have seen no comparison done between the 2 singers' ranges.
Voiceplay. Their arrangements are on the same level as Pentatonix. You should seriously check them out. Their medleys, their covers of the Halloween songs. Anything. Voiceplay is a definite must listen. To give you an idea, Voiceplay has several five-part harmony out-count arpeggios in their song, accompanied by tonal rises and drops that neither Avi nor Matt can reach.
You seen Home Free's Ring of Fire with Avi. Home Free and Pentatonix are very good friends. The are another very very good A Capella group. I really like there covers of "Man of Constant Sorrow" and "Fulsom Prison Blues."
Since Avi left Pentatonix he has produced a wonderful EP called 'I'll Get Bye' I would suggest checking out the beginning song on the EP called 'Change on the Rise'. All of the voice parts on this song are Avi.
Yessss! So few reactors to this are actually familiar with Daft Punk. It's so satisfying when someone who actually knows Daft Punk reacts to this. I've really been loving your reactions ^_^
Hey Megan great job once again with your reaction, AWESOME video! If you enjoyed that one you'll enjoy Kevin's solo work check out you'll be AMAZED ! Thanks for allowing us to go on this journey with you let's keep going down this rabbit hole!😉😉😉😉😉😉😉
You ask what our favorite PTX song...well...I've got three. This one, Hallelujah and Bohemian Rhapsody. But in all honesty, EVERYTHING they do is pure magic. They do a live private backstage performance of Daft Punk that is mind-blowing!
If you want to see their beginning, check out their Sing Off performances. It was a reality show where a cappella groups compete for a record deal. There’s 12 performances and you’ll get to hear an iconic name duo for Kevin and Avi
They are even amazing live. They sound even better if possible. At their last concert i went to they came out and sang one of their original songs just standing in a circle with one mic. You could have heard a pin drop the entire auditorium was so quiet while they sang. The song is called Run To You if you want to check it out.. Its breath taking.
Yeah! It’s pretty sick! The reason I love PTX so much is because of the variety of musical styles they attack with so much gusto. Who would have thought that an A Cappella band would get into techno funk, hiphop, rap, indie, broadway, classic rock, pop, country and lets not forget traditional Christmas carols and hymns! If you watch the Sing Off series, you will see how they all started, the original 5 (2011). Their fans were hooked from then on and marvelled at their creativity and talent. Then, in 2017, Avi made his announcement that he was leaving and all the fans were just devastated. Some stopped listening, thinking it would never be the same again but then Matt joined in with his beautiful voice and energy and they just kept on forging on ahead. The band has surmounted many obstacles and difficulties along the way and they have my total respect for their generous sophisticated artistry. Glad you enjoy them. 🤗
I suggest checking out their performances on the sing off. It will give you lots of background on the group. They won the competition when Scott Mitch and Kiristie were just 19.
This is such a great performance - and it was recognized as such with their first Grammy win! My previous favorite of theirs was Imagine, but it has now been supplanted by the new and powerful version of Amazing Grace that's only been out a few weeks. Loved watching how you kept getting more and more into this performance. But you're right, they are simply that good!
Another commenter below (LarryWY) mentioned that, " They do a backstage live performance of Daft Punk that is mind blowing!". I had seen it a couple of days ago for the first time and it was truly mind blowing what they can do live, that is just the five of them standing in a line without individual mics and doing a performance for only a couple of people and being recorded with must have been just one video camera mounted on a tripod with probably only the mic mounted to the camera. It's amazing how close it sounds to the Official Video. You can find the video on UA-cam by searching "Pentatonix Daft Punk mix private performance" and it was uploaded by Nick Riddell. If you don't do a reaction video of this, you should still watch it for your own enjoyment. It is amazing. For another reaction video that will further your education on Pentatonix, I suggest "The Wizard of Ahhs ft. Pentatonix". This video is by Todrick Hall Productions and Todrick was the director, writer and producer. You get to see how they work with someone else in charge but I'm sure PTX had great input on the musical arrangements. Avi is in this one and should not be missed.
Hi Megan! I have just been catching up with some of the previous videos, and you mentioned that you really love a cappella... You should check out Peter Hollens. He is a great vocalist, and is a master at multi-track layering: he can make one or two voices sound like a symphony. He has a number of collaborations including with Home Free and Avi of PTX, which could make good jumping off points.
First time here; new sub. It's great to see people appreciating ptx this much. I scrolled down some and it looks like you've been pointed in a the right direction! I could listen to these guys, Adele and a few other artists all day every day. Thanks for the video.
Just a little back story. They won the Sing Off on season 3 and got a ?$200,000 contract but the studio backed out, said a capella didn't do that good on the market. PTX was so disappointed! Dreams went down the drain! They started a UA-cam channel. One of the first songs they did was Can't Hold Us, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis cover. It was kinda like I'll show you. can't hold us down. And it went viral! It has been like that since! They are amazing!
Absolutely love watching first timers getting their PTX experience (from you video on "The Sound of Silence). I watched this group all the way from their first showing on season 3 of the sing off (knew they would win that). The other, much larger groups just couldn't do what PTX could do. In the final four after Pentatonix performed a mash-up of "Forget You" & "Since You Been Gone", Shawn Stockman (Judge, and member of this small group called Boys to Men lol) Formerly renamed Avi and Kevin "Meat and Potatoes". Was fitting :) Welcome to the PTX family, it is vast and devoted. As to your quest for a group in this genre that can match PTX, while there are some amazing groups (Home Free and Voice Play are a couple), I honestly don't believe any can match the full package that PTX brings. Thanks for the raw reaction......another sub :)
Hi Megan. Great reaction as always to another amazing performance. They have a new christmas song - just came out. It is called 12 days of christmas. It is brilliant!
For me this is the most crazy video of Pentatonix in a positive way! I think you should check out 3 newest songs of PTX: "Be My Eyes", "Thank you" and "12 Days of Christmas". Great reaction! :)
I suggest a few of their originals. "Run to you" is my fav. Also "Can't sleep love", "water", and "see through". All amazing! Their original, "light in the hallway" is an Avi lead that I think you'd like.
This was released on _PTX Vol. 2_ on November 5, 2013, which makes Mitch no more than 21 when they recorded it, possibly 20 depending on how long it took them to finish the album after recording "Daft Punk Medley." Their budget was $400, which mostly went for makeup (presumably including the contacts), one ring light, and I believe professional editing. The audio was recorded in a closet (for the acoustics); the video was recorded at a kitchen table. And it won them their first Grammy. Kevin was unable to tolerate the contacts, which is why he was wearing a visor. Judging by how red Avi's eyes were he must have been having some trouble with them as well.
I agree with you that I am constantly speechless for the talent of all five of them. Then I can not process how Scott, Kirsten, and Mitch all went to the same school. How does that much talent gather? Have you touched on Voctave? We can ease you in with a transitional piece, "Disney love medley", featuring Kirsten. No one does what Pentatonix does, but they are special as well.
Yep. See there it goes again. The good ole’ puckerbutt face. Happened to all of us as well. I 1000% agree, Matt, Avi and Kevin really add that “special sauce”. Avi is a rare talent, so rare in fact that I honestly thought they would be over and done with when he left. He was quite literally the deep and powerful foundation of the group. That’s what makes me all the more impressed with Matt.. I simply can not believe they found someone with enough talent and range to not only fill the void, but add a new flavor (without tarnishing what Avi did). I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, after all it was Avi himself who brought Matt in. He knew better than any one what they would need, and he was right. The dude has UNREAL range, accuracy, and versatility. More than that, he has brought and energy that has skyrocketed them even more than they were. He’s meshed so well with the group, that it’s kinda hard to believe he wasn’t there from the beginning. But then there’s Kevin... and I don’t think anyone would disagree, this man is ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL to their group. The members themselves all say that he is both the smartest and most musically talented in the group. Scott, Kirsten, Mitch (especially), Matt, and Avi are what I would consider musical prodigies. They obviously work on their craft, but these guys were born to sing. Kevin however, worked unreasonably hard and established himself from the ground up since childhood. Most of all, the man has incredible humility. This group is really one of a kind. They’ve helped a lot of us without even knowing it. I’m not passionate about a lot of things, but I am damn proud to be a supporter and fan of them.
Would you believe that someone said that PTX has been dropping in sales since Avi left?! I love and miss Avi, but matt. Matt is a great addition. Saw them in concert a couple of years ago, and they did Bohemian rhapsody for the encore. They never would have done that if he wasn't good enough. And the story he told during the introduction part of the concert, was he was competing in an a capella competition with his high school, and he looked out over the audience, and front and center, was pentatonix. Which for him at the time, was as close as he thought he'd ever get to the group. Surprise!
@@heidifruchtl354 yea, whoever said that is either a troll, or still emotional about Avi’s departure. (Understandable) That’s simply not true. They have had their most successful years with Matt. A great deal of that is thanks to Avi, who helped put them on the map. They wouldn’t be were they are now without him. However, their sound and style transformed with the addition of Matt. Avi did a hell of a lot of heavy lifting when he was in the group, and his departure forced them to grow and experiment with different techniques and musical strategies. Even though Matt is more than capable of doing what Avi did, the goal was not to “replace” Avi. Instead they chose to add Matt and evolve their styles. (Old Testament/ New Testament, if you will) This was all for their benefit, as they are WAY more dynamic now. The subtile complexities, the different voice pairings and combinations, the expansion of range for all members, and the incredible advancement of Kevin’s singing confidence (another thing to thank Avi for) has allowed them to which has helped them to tackle project they would have avoided before, and in turn has enabled them to appeal to a wider audience.
@@justinperry13 totally agree. I, *cough* thumb downed their comment. Didn't want to give them any more than that. I rewatched the fourth song they did on the sing off, where Shawn Stockman said that PTX was from the future to save a capella. Yup. I used to take my Christmas ptx albums to work, years ago. Had a coworker who was much better at singing than myself, and he used to quiz me who was singing which part. Mind you, while working a retail job, back turned from the stereo. And the CD holder in his hand. At one point, finally brought out my phone and just played "dance of the sugar plum fairy" video for him. Mentioned the Grammy they won for it. He went and bought his own cds.
Kevin tried to wear the contacts, but he couldn't - you see how irritated Avi's eyes were - he had a hard time with them. They had a $400 budget for this video and they filmed it in a closet. It got them their first Grammy! I'm so happy that there's a new Pentaholic on the scene. Loving your videos! I suggest their "Say Something", and "It's a Mad World" video - they are awesome - and there's so much more!
Some bits of this sound like they're remixed, but I can confirm that it sounds the same live - when I saw them in Melbourne (Australia) a few years back, they opened the show with this song. It was amazing. Definitely recommend seeing them live if you get the chance. And Home Free who I've also seen live, and VoicePlay who I really want to see live.
Voiceplay, Home Free, and Voctave are all excellent acapella groups whose talents are the equal of PTX but whose styles are quite different. Also, Scott Hoying, of PTX, created an all-girl acapella group called Citizen Queen that is absolutely remarkable. So, there you go, more acapella that you can listen to over many, many days. Down the rabbit hole, m'Dear. Down the rabbit hole.
You really do need to check out Voiceplay. They are just as amazing as ptx and home free trust me they will blow you away as well. Try their cover of "warriors" or "bridge over troubled waters" or "little mermaid medley" any one of those will make you an instant fan. You said to show you a group that could come close to PTX.... If you arent afraid of another amazing rabbit hole, try one of those Voiceplay songs and you will be binging the rest of their stuff. Guaranteed.
I do enjoy Voiceplay, but I don't think their arrangements are as strong (with some exceptions). They really go all out with theatricality though. I love their version of the Oogie Boogie song. Grim Grinning Ghosts is great, and the new You're a Mean one Mr. Grinch is wonderful. I'd love to see what they could do with a little Ben Brams level back up on their arrangements.
Pne of the quotes from the comments on this Video went something like this: Mitch: Look at these cool Contacts, Avi look at this neat blue necklace, Scott what do you guys thin kof the JAck frost look, Kevin: look at these neat Glasses... Kristin "Peasants!" Another one I loved was Kristin looked like "Elsa on crack" - Think about it it actually fits...
Avi and Matt two incredible bass vocals but Avi's tone is something I just adore, moves you from the inside out...I think it might be illegal..hahahahaha. Do check out Carol of the Bells, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy...AVI!!!
Suggestions (in no particular order): Mary did you know, sing (an original), can you feel the love tonight, rather be, attention, havana, new rules x are you that somebody, can't hold us, dance of the sugarplum fairy (grammy #2), aha live at singapore vista, wizard of ahhs (collaboration with todrick hall), come along, thank you (their latest vid), the greatest show (from the movie soundtrack, no music vid), radioactive (collaboration with lindsey stirling)
If you want unlayered acapella my top 3 are PTX, Home Free, and Voice Play. Check out Voice Play and 'Grim Grinning Ghosts' or their Moana medly with Rachel Potter
Regarding Mitch's look: Mitch, Scott and Kirstie were all 19 years old when they were on the Sing Off competition in 2011, so that would put them around 20 - 21 years old in this video. As others have said, this was their first Grammy and was shot in an apartment kitchen. I think this was the about the same look he had in high school and hadn't developed his sense of style yet or maybe wasn't comfortable expressing himself at this point in his life. Also, you can be both a Pentaholic and a Home Fry. No need to compare. Home Free videos have a different feel and frequently just make you want to have the guys over for a beer. I suggest their original, "Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget" next and then their "Butts Remix".
FYI. Scott was born in September 1991-making him 20 when they won “The Sing-Off”. Avi was 22 (born in 1989) Kevin was 23 (born in 1988) And Mitch and Kirstie were both born in 1992, making them 19 when they won the contest.
Huge Avi fan. You should check out : black is the colour of my true loves hair Gold Papaoutai Dance of the sugar plum fairy Can't hold Us Say something New rules Evolution of Ariana Grande
Do you like Christmas music? All their Christmas arrangements are great. Oh Come All Ye Faithful, Mary Did You Know, any of them are wonderful. Can’t go wrong. If you do Silent Night, find the live one. Another one that proves they are just as good if not better live. Just beautiful. Thanks for your reaction videos. I love seeing people discover PTX. They are definitely special.
Love again. Its an original has a similar but different feel. Avi is heavily featured. Dance of the Sugarplum fairies is brilliant and won them their next Grammy. You may benefit from watching the singoff season 3 and see the beginnings.
i dunno what it is but when Kirstin does that half smile i melt on the inside.
You aren't going down the road, you're going down the Pentaholic rabbit hole. 🤩🤩
It was so good that they won their first Grammy for it. Kevin wasn't wearing the contacts because he had a problem, a reaction to them, so he went for the cool goggle shades instead.

Check them out - You'll love them!
you should also check out their original music like "sing", "love again" or the new songs "happy now" or "be my eyes",...
Sing is guaranteed to put a smile on my face and uplift my mood!
Run to You is my favorite original of theirs. Written by Kevin & Avi.
This is their first Grammy winning song. It was recorded in Avi and Kevin's closet, and filmed in their kitchen for a total of about $600
$400.00 to make this video in a closet at the apartment. Equals one Grammy.
I like how their three Grammys were for what you just described, for a song with no lyrics by an a capella group, and for a song with a featured singer where they play backup crew, effectively, while the featured singer sings lead on her own massive hit.
evolution videos are crazy good. Michael Jackson, Arianna Grande, Rihanna, Beyonce.
Radioactive and Shallow are great covers. Both have Kevin playing cello.
So good.
This is one of my favorites by them. Love watching new people react to this one.
You're such a great spirit. Welcome to the community, glad to have you.
Also, I'll take you up on that challenge: Oogie Boogie's song - VoicePlay
Couldn't agree more - nice introduction to bass sub-harmonics. Excellent nomination.
Part of the fun of watching ptx is watching their style evolve, lol.
You need to do "new rules x are you that somebody" - Matt and Kevin vibing off each other - it's ridiculously good!
No, there is no group out there like Pentatonix and don't let anyone tell you otherwise!! They are magical! Love your reactions, I can't wait to see more!!
they won a grammy award for this mv and arrangement
PTX all the way!! Great reaction. Thanks
Pentatonix all the way for me, but if you want to check out another Accapala group, then I would suggest Voiceplay....
Great reaction! You should definitely react to "Love Again"! Similar in style and I think it will ABSOLUTELY blow your mind. Avi is also in it if you needed any more reason!
I agree with you!!!
He does have a fun part in that one 🙂
Here I am at 1230 am listening to this. I wondered how you would react.
1:23am EST doing the same thing
This was recorded in 2013. They recorded it themselves in Avi's closet and did their own video in Avi's kitchen for a total production cost of $400. It got them a Grammy and a recording contract.
I would love to see you react to White Winter Hymnal. All 5 of ptx are doing insane rhythms. A visual treat!!!
My favorite cover by them is Imagine by John Lennon. It'll hit you right in the feels.
You probably know that Pentatonix came together for a TV acapella competition called The Sing Off. One of the judges described Avi and Kevin as the "meat and potatoes" of the group. Quite rightly.
Yeah! Avi.. i know right!😏
You should check out “Mary did you know”
YES, PLEASE!
Voiceplay is right up there with Pentatonix and home free.
True. Different styles and different music. Did Voiceplay start in Disneyland or was that another one? Vocative maybe?
@@gailseatonhumbert9199 Voctave got most of their members from Voices of Liberty (Disney) but Voiceplay is from Orlando...
@@jamesbrannon782 thanks
Voiceplay is indeed from Orlando, started off singing while walking around Disney World. I am not 100% but they still may do this. This is why they do a lot of Disney songs.
@@bradnymeyer9064 so both then have heavy musical theater influences?
This was Grammy #1 of 3 total so far.
Not better different. I prefer Avi to both even though I know Geoff has a huge range and Tim drops it like no other.
For fun try Homefree's Ring of Fire featuring Avi Kaplan. The 3 big a cappella groups bass singers dislike it when they are pitted against each other by fans. Their bands have quite different musical nitches. Tim Foust (Homefree's bass) arranged the song for 2 basses and then invited Avi over to sing it with them 🙂
As for personal preference Avi has the most appealing timbre and camera presence (developed for opera which is where he was headed when Pentatonix came up according to one of their patreon live casts) which is what draws people to him and he is usually singing bass in chest voice giving him an amazing amount of power compared to a growl or subharmonic techniques to reach those low notes. And he can go all the way up to a low tenor in his upper register. (See Pentatonix Silent Night or I Need Your Love or quite a bit of his solo stuff where he will release an alternative version in either a higher or lower voice to see which carries the emotions of the song best)
Geoff Castelluci of Voiceplay says he is a baritone singing bass so for purists he might be out although real basses are so rare baritones do usually sing the bass part in most musical groups, bands and choirs.
Awesome work by PTX here! For more awesome acapella groups check out Home Free and Voiceplay both are incredible.
You would truly enjoy La La Latch. Also "New Rules/Are you that somebody"
You would love them in a live version of "Pentatonix aha singapore star vista". Avi goes CRAZY in the beginning. Look it up.
Love the kitty making a cameo in your reaction video...lol
Try this song by Pentatonix " Run to you ". It is all vocal, [ no beatbox ]. All the vocals are layered / built with Avi as the foundation. Enjoy !!
"Be My Eyes" showcases Kirstie, and is my current favorite song. That'd be a fun one to check out.
Was fitting :)
Welcome to the PTX family, it is vast and devoted. As to your quest for a group in this genre that can match PTX, while there are some amazing groups (Home Free and Voice Play are a couple), I honestly don't believe any can match the full package that PTX brings.
Thanks for the raw reaction......another sub :)
"Beige...I think I'll make my entire house beige..." Maybe add a sprinkle of color to the background? :)
Pentatonix, Aha in Singapore. Mitch is the star in that one
Love your reactions!!! You should react to their cover Radio active.
@@heidifruchtl354 lol! That is awesome. Believe it or not, I just discovered them earlier this year. I have been a diehard fan ever since.
@@justinperry13 wow. I discovered them in 2013. Been a fan since. Cried when you Avi left, but I love Matt and what they've been doing with him.
All three Vocal Groups you mentioned are great. I personally think that PTX encompasses a greater variety of musical styles in their performances.
Pne of the quotes from the comments on this Video went something like this: Mitch: Look at these cool Contacts, Avi look at this neat blue necklace, Scott what do you guys thin kof the JAck frost look, Kevin: look at these neat Glasses... Kristin "Peasants!"
Another one I loved was Kristin looked like "Elsa on crack" - Think about it it actually fits...
Avi and Matt two incredible bass vocals but Avi's tone is something I just adore, moves you from the inside out...I think it might be illegal..hahahahaha. Do check out Carol of the Bells, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy...AVI!!!
Don't forget to give mad props to their editor too.
With ptx u never miss the instruments !
Avi has a great cd out. Check the song “Change is on the Rise.”
If you want unlayered acapella my top 3 are PTX, Home Free, and Voice Play. Check out Voice Play and 'Grim Grinning Ghosts' or their Moana medly with Rachel Potter
I have never been able to make a gap between Avi and Dimash as my favorite singer.
You should react to Gold and Aha! (Official video and live Singapore). Loved your reaction.
Check out their video "Love Again", an original, if I am not mistaken I believe it was written by Avi and Kevin. Another clear winner for them.
