Update: Dante is less miserable now it seems, so that's great. Patty is still in his life, he just got Vergil back and Nero finally understands that Dante is his uncle too. Lucia is also in love with him as the prequel novel to DMC5 explains, so hopefully he makes something of that someday!
To me this song captures the essence of Dante, as well as the video that goes with it. He gets a new adventure every episode but at the end, he's just sitting, drinking, silent and sad, all alone and just with a picture of his mother.
He acts very cheery and sarcastic but at the end of the day he has no one, everyone pretty much leaves him or moves on with their lives and he does not leave his past behind, and it's not really about a choice, he just can't move on.
His mother was murdered, father died, he had to murder his own brother, he can't have a normal life(he's tried), at every step there's someone ready to attack him and it eventually also puts others in danger. He acts as a hunter for hire but he just does it out of being a good person, a lot of times he never charged anyone for his jobs because he knew he was just doing the right thing generally.
The lyrics of the song are pretty direct too, telling Dante to let go of his past and move on;

But of course he never did good at that and never will. The last canon we have is DMC2, and he's alone and depressed. Doesn't even talk much and rarely every jokes.
So while he's a flashy kick-ass sarcastic demon hunter, in life he is just a sad person who didn't get to have a childhood, teenhood or even an adulthood, he's cursed with losing everyone he loves and people always just leave him.

Reading two last chapters of "Visions of V" manga while listening to this was one of my best decisions of this year.
something I feel kinda upset about is that I don't really see people talk about this anime enough
I know that this anime is kinda old but I really feel like it deserves so much more attention since in the anime it shows the old Dante and this song goes over Dante at the end of the day
sure he may be a sarcastic, badass demon hunter but then when all things are done and there's no more work that day you just see Dante sitting on his desk drinking with a framed picture of his mother
It must be because it was not seen like in the games, but if you know the Lore you will know the story of Dante and the anime is located after DMC1 and we know what event happens there
This is not only because of what happens in DMC1, in the Lore you can see more of Dante's story and the reason for which he has debts is 😔😞
Mostly I feel because the anime is kind of average. It's like a 6/10 at most and of course, I do love the games so this is coming from an unbiased opinion.
Takes a long time to get going but it does have its strong moments, like the ending song here.
That first episode is long and slow and if you're an anime fan who hasn't really played the games much, it's likely going to drag. This anime won't set the world on fire, sad to say.

I have literally played this song everyday. I recently only just been introduced to the anime series the first week of this year and I've watched it twice all the way through. I've been replaying all the games again as well. I'm hoping with the release of Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition it is an indication that we will get DMC5. I need Dante back and I think the gaming world does too

+VergilHilts it's been heavily hinted that DMC5 is in the works :) the actors who play both Dante & Nero took a picture of themselves doing a secret project in Mo cap suits a month or two back. Also the actor who plays Vergil also asked fans what do they think of the DMC5 talk. it's not confirmed but it's looking very much like it ^^

In DMC5? They made him old, looking bitter and ready to pass the torch to nero or whoever kid comes along. That's sad. I don't like that at all. They did that shit to most game legends: Marcus fenix, kratos and now Dante. To me DMC 4 was the last great game in that series that honestly followed Dante and his story and gave him the glory he deserves

Dmc4 wasnt even a finished game. There was so much they wanted to do with nero. Thats why it feels like a meaningless torch passing.
DMC5 gives Dante plenty of credit and he even becomes his own legend, instead of always being refered to as "the son of a legend".

I love Castlevanias Alucard and DMCs Dante for the very same reason, they are relatable. They are hurt but it would be pointless to even express it because what is it going to solve? The sad fact... Absolutely nothing... But I'm convinced that abused people come here to these songs because they cannot handle the pain anymore. You know I am curious why will people say people in Dante life leaves him? I personally don't think so by what the game and the visual relationship they show with Dante and others. Perfect example is Dante and Lady. Both who kill each of their "remaining" blood line with their own hands and is now scar with destroying their own tree. Make sense why they be grieving and depress together since they understand each other pain and such. Plus the anime shows they hang out time to time, Trish(which I can see abit why) Dante was able to save Trish and give her a chance of life in the human world. So with her bearing resemblances of his mother must had gave him some kind of comfort or relief that he was able to save his mother like image due to being unable to save his own mother. Now of course I can see why people might say she left him and the anime did sorta reveal that she left him some time later, but kinda wish that was explain and explore to why. Maybe she didn't want to deal with Dante personal issues? Which I imagine that a far fetch unless she did try to help him out then I agree with that. After all having someone face isn't gonna mean someone will stay foreve in your life. Regardless those are what I think base on what the game show abit on their each relationship, but wish we get one round go of a game/anime to see Dante relationship with everyone and how his own scar, and problems had any negative affect or postive. Either way like to hear why some say people leaves Dante behinde, not that I disagree I genuine like to have dmc discussion and curious to this conclusion.
So, I read the whole comment, and I wanna ask. You know anything about the novels? And, they weren't about a badass demon hunter. They were about Tony Redgrave, a childish mercenary. After losing everything, for the first time, he made a few good friends. Found another mother figure. Nell Goldstein. The woman who made Ebony and Ivory. Dante's depression was there, after his childhood. It was after losing his best friend, Grue, and his second mother figure, who he could have saved. She'd been stabbed, and stayed in her burning workshop, to finish making a set of handguns that would never fail him. It was when she died in his arms, giving him the legendary pistols, that the depression triggered. At the time of DMC3, it was starting to get a little easier to deal with, but at the end, he lost his brother, again. Then, by the end of DMC1, he'd lost his brother, a 3rd time. So, it's nothing to do with Trish, or Lady. Or Morrison. It's about what he had already lost, and the pain he'd already suffered.
@@iroquoispliskin4262 Ahh shit that makes an ALOT OF SENSE, yeah admittedly I never read novels cause I never find a way to get ahold of them free on the internet to read. I was not aware of any other except ones that were made between the game events like DMC 5 novel for "V". Though now that you mention how repeatedly Dante has gone through his trauma, yeah I can see the bigger picture of how fuck up he is and how far gone he is despite the current people in his life. It's bad enough Dante has to go through it the first time as a child, but now two or three more times as a grown man. Yeah, a repeat trauma I can picture a guy literally dying inside beyond a 100 scale. Really appreciate on leaving a comment here for me to come back and read, and explain it to me. Now that you did that, I will go back on the internet to see if any novels that I heard of are up there for me to read, or a voice dub cover version.
