Ingredients
1½ tbsp instant coffee
250 g butter at room temperature
4 large eggs
250 g sugar
3 tbsp cognac
250 g self-raising flour
1 tsp baking powder
A pinch of salt
250 g pitted prunes
1 vanilla
For the glaze
1 tbsp instant coffee
150 g sifted powdered sugar
1. Dissolve the coffee in 1½ tbsp hot water. Chop the prunes finely. In a bowl, beat the sugar and butter with a hand mixer until fluffy.
2. Add the coffee, cognac, vanilla, and eggs and continue beating.
3. Add the flour and baking powder and continue beating until the mixture is homogeneous. Add the prunes and mix with a spatula or spoon.
Preheat the oven to 170°C.
4. Butter a round cake tin with removable sides and transfer the mixture into it. Bake for about 45 minutes or until a knife comes out clean when tested.
5. Let the cake cool, remove from the tin, and place it on the serving plate.
6. Make the glaze: Dissolve the coffee in 1 tbsp hot water. Add the powdered sugar along with 2 more tbsp water and mix with a whisk until the mixture is homogeneous. Spread the glaze over the cake.

Tip
For an even more "torte-like" feel, cut the cake in half before it cools, spread ready-made whipped cream on one half, cover with the other half and finish with the glaze on top.
