- This conversion work out well. I took it for a ride and it was ice cold. I don't have to add anymore freon. Please be safe doing this. Thanks for watching. I forgot to mention make sure there is core in replacement fitting and remove the existing core from the original low side line.
Should you add PAG or Mineral/Ester oil and R134a. Was r12. Just replaced fittings. 1992 Pickup

Great video! I converted my 89 blazer from R12 to R134, only thing I did was change fittings and put I think it was about three small cans in it. The gauge stayed where it was supposed to. It would stay nice and cold for about three months then I’d need another can. Living in SC. It gets hot and it worked great for us. My compressor had the leak in it but I’d have to pay almost as much for the compressor as I would of for the blazer! It was cheaper to put a can in it every two/three months. Thanks for your video!

Use ester oil it’s compatible with r12 and r134a.
I’m about to do this… so basically just remove all the r12 out of the system then install the fitting on the low pressure and recharge… seems pretty straightforward… no need to install a fitting on the high side right ? 😅
Make sure there is no leaks in the system. Make sure the r12 is out and yes 134 fitting on the low side only. Do not over fill. Thanks for watching 👍

U didn't add oil because the 134 oil doesn't mix well with the r12 mineral oil. Thanks for watching 🔧👍

I’m gonna do this to my 1993 Camry. A local shop wants to charge me $196 to evacuate the r12 from the system. Anyway I can evacuate it myself?
Not that I know of without the machine. I figured I would try it without evacuating the system. That was 2 or 3 years ago and it still works great. Thanks for watching 👍

"I am not one to read directions" That does not inspire lots of confidence in the information you are trying to provide. I was hoping to hear information like What is the difference between PAG oil and Ester oils, Operational differences between R12 vs R134a, pressure low side vs high side, efficiency differences, between R-12 and R134a. if the Pressures are higher, do we need to change out the high side limit switch, what about the low side limit switch. and what are those switches for and where are they? On a Orifice system do we need to, or is it better to change out the Orifice tube to get equal performance. Is it best to invert the can to dump liquid refrigerant straight in the system, or is it best practice to only introduce refrigerant as a vapor with the can upright. I have two systems to convert from R-12 to R134a, and I am seeking information. Could you help me with my questions?
The best way to do it is to evacuate the system and make sure the system holds vacuum for at least an hour. Now you know you have no leaks. I suggest buying gauges. You will have to add PAG oil and when you refill it with refrigerant you will have to look up the specs for your vehicle. I never ran into problems with switches as you asked about. I know using 134a will take a lesser amount then the R12. I hope this helps you.
