Kalevi Kiviniemi: "Hell and Heaven" for organ and tape

Kalevi Kiviniemi performs his work "Hell and Heaven" for organ and tape. This is the World premiere, recorded live at Sibelius Hall, Lahti, Finland, on 3 October, 2012, as the last piece of the recital. Recital celebrated organ's 5th year anniversary. Also the first CD/SACD recorded with this organ was released ("Sibelius Hall Organ", FUGA-9339).
Tape part of "Hell and Heaven" consists of layered sound effects, noise, strange and frightening human voices and sounds from nature. Tape part was constructed, recorded and mixed by Mika Koivusalo.
The Sibelius Hall organ is a 52-stop concert hall organ built by the Swedish organ builder Grönlunds Orgelbyggeri. Basically it represents French romantic tradition, but it has special stops, f.ex. xylophone, fågelsång (Nightingale) and high pressure reed Tuba Mirabilis 8'. The organ was inaugurated on 3 May, 2007.
This video was specially prepared for youtube. Audio was taken from the live recording setup and from the original background tape, not from video camera's built-in microphone. All audio parts were carefully balanced and listened.
The audio track is more demanding for the playback equipment than usually. It contains many elements and details, high dynamics and very low frequencies. The better your computer's audio system, especially the speakers and the subwoofer are, the better is the sound. In 720p and 1080p versions audio quality is better.
